Being a PLUS size.
The dilemma of overweight people in the United States has increased insanely in the past
few years. Overweight people go through the struggle of being called names, some people also
get called less pretty, just because they do not have the call so perfect body that society has
created. Is being overweight truly ugly or does our generation ask too much from an individual.
Reasons we have obesity, eating out too much possibly or is it simply the fact that people are too
lazy to work out. Now a day we dont require much from our kids; technology has taken over
physical activity. What has happened? Who is at blame? And why are there so many people
struggling with obesity? With this simple question I start my argument is being a plus size okay?

Hartley-Parkinson Richard. Woman Beaten Up for Having Fat Face and Spots. METRO NEWS
NOT AS YOU KNOW IT. Monday 9 Feb 2015

Summary: Hartley-Parkinson starts of the article Woman beaten up for having fat face and
spots by showing a picture of Xiaojin Tuan, 32. This woman and a man named Huang Mao met
through an online dating site. After talking for a while. Huang Mao decided to meet the
goddess as he called her. According to Hartley-Parkinson this man was very excited to meet
the young 32-year-old lady, to the point where he spends 5,300 on flights to her home city of
Suzhou in east China. But when Huang Mao met with Xiaojin Tuan, she looked different from
her profile picture, she was a bit fatter and had face acne. I knew exactly what she looked like
as the image of her face was engrained in my memory, so when this woman came and sat down
next to me I was completely shocked Huang Mao. Minutes later Mao starts accusing Tuan of
lying, and suddenly aggravated her by punching her and stomping on her body. HartleyParkinson (first page). A police spokesman said: The couple were detained and then woman

Morabito, Andrea. I gained 43 pounds to prove obese people are lazy. published in the New
York Post January 16, 2015.

Summary: A summary of I gained 43 pounds to prove obese people are lazy Morabito starts
of by explaining the experiment Katie Hopkins do to prove her point. Hopkins thinks obese
people are lazy and she decided to gain 43 pounds in 12 weeks and lose it afterwards. Morabito
also mentions how Hopkins is so confident, straight forward, and mean at the same time to obese
people, not in a way where she puts them down, but Hopkins calls overweight people lazy. After
12 weeks of putting on weight, Hopkins started losing the weight and notice it was not as simple,
as she thought it would be in the beginning. There are a lot of things now that I get that I didnt
get before Telling someone whos overweight or fat to put on a pair of trainers and get out
there and get running that is not going to work. Because when your fat you do not want to go
running all over the place, carrying all that you are on your knees Hopkins says of her
experiment. According to Morabito, Hopkins still believes that with determination, your goal can
be achieved and obese people should not have any excuses.

Orbach, Susie. Fat Is a Feminist Issue. They Say I Say. The Moves That Matter in Academic
Writing, with Readings, Second Edition. Eds Gerard, Graff; Cathy Birkenstein, and
Russel Dust. W.W. Norton & Company: New York. 2012. 448-453. Print.

Summary: A summary on Fat Is a Feminist Issue by Susie Orbach. According to Orbach in

United States, fifty percent of women are overweight. Being fat is not easy, people especially
womens that are overweight; get hurt, are self-conscious and feel that they do not quite fit in
with society (448). A feminist argues that being fat represents a rebellious way of breaking sex
stereotypes. According to Orbach fat is a social disease, and a feminist issue (449). Woman have
a methodical system set for life, getting a man is an essential goal. In the other hand, women are

Infante 4
also seen as a sex object, as John Berger says in ways of seeing: men act and women appear
Men look at women; Women watch themselves being looked at. This determines not only most
relations between men and women, but also the relation of women to themselves (Orbach 449).
Moreover, some women are victims of the ideal Image and Diet Companys. The epitome of
billboards, magazines, and television have taint a woman perspective, of the way they should
look. It is clear to see The womans body its not hers and it truly belongs to society and what
they think of it (451) on the other hand, clothes changes, and hair styles become different every
generation. For instance, in 1970, the look was curly hair and full breast. Overall that doesnt
quite matter, because Orbach concludes by stating that; despite the many changes in fashion
trends, being thin is consistently viewed as positive, and necessary for women, and that as a
result, obesity may express rebellion against society. The image, everyone creates for a woman is
far from reality (Orbach 452).

Zinczenko, David. Dont Blame the Eater. They Say I Say: Moves that Matter in Academic
Writing with Readings, Second Edition. Eds Graff, Gerad; Cathy Birkentein, and Russel
Dust. W.W. Norton and Company: New York, 2012 391-394 print.

Summary: According Zinczenko, Kids nor teenagers are at fault for being on a fast food diet or
for that matter being obese, the problem belongs to everyone. For the most part obesity is for
lifetime, for instance since 1994 health problems have raised by 30 percent. (392) Fast food
restaurants are everywhere, cooking, and feeding someone never got easier. In the other hand
people tend to be fools by how much calories there is in a McDonald meal. According to
Zinczenko there is more than 13,000 McDonalds to be seen in a road trip but nowhere to by an

Infante 5
apple juice. (392) In addition fast food meals do not have a warning label. Without such
warnings, well see more sick, obese children and angrier, litigious parents. Zinczenko (393)
Conclusion
In conclusion after reading all this articles I can answer my question that I stared my
argument with, who is at blame for United States for being an overweight country, well the
answer is very simple, we the people. We all have the choice to eat junk food, and be the way we
are, overweight or fit It all depends on us, the choice of eating out or at home is a daily question
as Zinczenko mentions in his easy it is a lot easier to find a McDonalds rather than cook for
yourself, because no a days not a lot of people take the time to cook at home. It is much easier
to just eat out. But throughout my annotated bibliography I have come to also noticed although
eating out is much easier and food is ready as soon as you pull up to the second window, It is not
healthy at all, there is absolutely nothing that will be better than a home prepared meal, because
you know exactly what you put in your meal.
On the other hand, Society does pressure people into a look that not everyone quite fits,
everyone is different in many aspects. For instance, if we put a 200lb 5,6 ft woman and 200lb 5,3
ft woman, together side to side, although they both weight the same amount, the woman that is
5,3ft will look bigger than the woman who is 5,6 ft. What I am trying to say, is that a scale
cannot measure what makes you, you. Overall I have come to realize, United Stated is on one of
the tops list for overweight people. In addition, people are easily deceived by looks, therefore
most of us judge by the way someone looks, if I truly think about what this generation has come
to, it is frightening. Beating a woman for being fat happens more than usual. I doubt all this will
change any time soon, or that people will learn to accept everyone by their looks, but I do know
that everything has a solution, and it is there, if we just look for it, and work towards it.
