General Objective:

At the end of the lesson students will:

1. Develop an understand of the importance of resources and technology in the


business environment.
Specific objectives:
At the end of the lesson students will be able to:
1. Define the terms resources technology human resources and non-human
resources
2. Identify resources that have been utilized in the business environment
3. Categorize resources utilized in businesses as 3human and non-human

Instructional materials:
Textbook: - Principles of Business for CSEC Sybil Hamil etal
Laptop and Projector
Video
Teacher-made charts

Methodology
Questioning To determine how much students know about the topic.
Discussion - To stimulate students to share their existing knowledge and
express any new insights.
Demonstration for students to show their level of understanding of the
content.

Prior knowledge
Students are aware of tasks performed in the office environment and some basic
resources that are required to operate a business.

Introductory Activity:
Students will view video presentation of an environment where business
activities are conducted. They will be asked to identify the place/ environment
depicted in the video.
Development of lesson.
Step 1: students will be asked to make a list of activities observed and the
equipment and tools being used to solve problems in a business. They will be
recorded on the board.
Step 2: Definition of key terms
Students will use text book and internet resources to determine the terms resource,
technology, human resources and non human resources. Terms will be discussed
and definition recorded on board.
Step 3: Students will categorize resources identified in video under the headings:
human and non-human.
Step 4: students will review chart on human and non-human resources. Students
will make correction to list developed with the assistance of the teacher. Additional
examples will be recorded by the students
KEYPOINTS:
Human resources are the physical and mental efforts of workers and involve
knowledge, skills, attitudes and values.
Culminating activities
In groups, students will be given the task to demonstrate their understanding on
what was taught using song, poetry or drama.
Assignment
Students will be asked to prepare a glossary of terms associated with resources and
technology.
