IB Mission:
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring,
knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful
world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the IBO works
with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging
programs of international education and rigorous assessment. These programs
encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong
learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Overview/Synopsis:
(Year 1) Beginning Art- Introduction to art, emphasizing the elements
of art, design principles, and competence in a variety of 2-D and 3-D
media. There are formal assessments on projects, art history tests and
process journals.
(Year 2) 2D Art- Students will become acquainted with a greater variety
of media. There will be more emphasis on principles of design and
realistic drawing skills. New media and techniques will be directly related
to art history. This class is academically challenging and requires formal
assessments on projects, art history tests and process journals.
(Year 3) Advanced Art- Students in the advanced program will
demonstrate their abilities at a very high level in 2-D and 3-D media. They
will work with multiple materials, delve into the lives of great artists and
enhance the school atmosphere with creative work. There will be formal
assessments on projects, art history tests and process journals. Each
student is required to produce a portfolio display at the Art Show in May.
All Art StudentsStudent artwork will be displayed regularly throughout the school and
parents and families are always welcome to view their childs work.
There will also be a student art competition in the spring.
District EOC (End of Course Exams) will also be taken in

their artwork, personal supplies and process journal.
You will need; a sketchbook (flexible cover is preferable), pencil, eraser,
ultra fine-tip sharpie, and glue stick. Recommended- small paint brushes
that you can keep in your art box.

Arts in the MYP:

The aims of the MYP arts are to encourage and enable students to:
Create and present art
Develop skills specific to the discipline
Engage in a process of creative exploration and (self-) discovery
Make purposeful connections between investigation and practice
Understand the relationship between art and its contexts
Respond to and reflect on art
Deepen their understanding of the world.
Arts Process Journal
The process journal is a generic term used to refer to the selfmaintained record of progress that students have made through the arts.
The media for documenting the process can vary depending on student
preferences. It can be written, visual, audio or a combination of these and
may include both paper and electronic formats. Students may develop
their own format and design, although schools can provide templates or
examples in order to support students work.
Students must show evidence of regular use of the process journal,
though not necessarily weekly. Though legibility is important, the
recording of critical and creative thinking and reflection is more important
than neatness and presentation. All four arts objectives must be
evidenced though the arts process journal.

Arts Objectives:
1. Knowing and Understanding
2. Developing Skills
3. Thinking Creatively
4. Responding
