NOW LETS SOAR!

A message from the Superintendent

Joseph S. Grimaud, D.D.S

Lindbergh Schools is honored to provide

high-quality education for all students,
propelled by strong community support, and a
team of excellent teachers, parents and
administrators. In 2016-17, we will continue to
proactively address rapid student enrollment
growth by putting the finishing touches on a
sixth elementary school and restoring 8-10
classrooms at Lindbergh High School, which is
quickly becoming the largest high school in
Missouri.
Dressel Elementary School, opening in fall 2017, will be a
650-student building serving grades K-5. Enrollment projections
show that Dressel will be completely full when it opens (see page
15). Lindberghs district offices will also move to the former
Johnnys Market site in fall 2017, restoring 8-10 much needed
classrooms at Lindbergh High School.
Lindbergh continues to lead the state academically, with six
National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence and six National
Schools of Character. This year, Lindbergh High Schools graduating
class earned 632 scholarships worth $17.4 million.
Our themes in recent years have reflected your generous
community support through this transition of growth. First, we
were Spreading Our Wings, then it was Time to Fly. Now, Lets
SOAR! Thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,

gymnastics program includes more than 200 students and teaches basic
skills, motor skills and advanced team skills, with the opportunity for
athletes to participate in meets. LAA provides students with access to
instructional, recreational sports in a safe, friendly educational environment.
Visit go.lindberghschools.ws/LAA for more information.
Lindbergh Activities offers classes from kickball to ballet, to advanced

LINDBERGH OASIS TUTORS

The Lindbergh Schools OASIS tutoring program will enter its 25th year
in 2015. OASIS pairs older adults with individual students in grades K-4 at
one of Lindberghs five elementary schools.
Tutors meet for one half hour a week during school to help students
advance their reading and writing skills. Tutors do not need a background
in teaching, just a love for children.
To learn more, contact Bev Coleman at 314-729-2400, ext. 8862.

SENIOR ASSOCIATES
Lindbergh residents age 60 and older are invited to the Senior
Associates program on the first Wednesday of each month, September
through June. Each Senior Associates event includes a delicious brunch,
musical performances by Lindbergh students, attendance prizes and more!
The program is held in the cafeteria at Truman Middle School from
9-10:30 a.m., and costs $5.
For additional information, please call 314-729-2400, ext. 4607.

LEAP
LEAP is the gifted education program for Lindbergh
Schools. Identified students in grades K-5 attend
classes once a week at the LEAP Center, located on

that encourage exploration and investigation, critical

Program for Exceptionally Gifted Students (PEGS)

The St. Louis regional public school PEGS program
is one of curricular acceleration and enrichment
opportunities for exceptionally gifted children in
grades 1-12. Students qualifying for PEGS are few in
number among the general population. This regional

program was established to assist local school districts

in providing for the unique needs of these exceptional
students.
Intellectually and academically exceptional children
need a demanding and unusually fast-paced curriculum.
These students also benefit from regular interaction
with intellectual peers.
The goal of PEGS is to provide a challenging
curriculum that enables these students to be creative
producers, socially well-adjusted individuals and
effective leaders.
The Lindbergh PEGS program is located at Concord
Elementary School, Sperreng Middle School, and
Lindbergh High School.

The Lindbergh Schools Foundation is an independent,

nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Lindberghs
commitment to excellence in education. The Foundations
mission is to:
Endow and administer funds that award scholarships to
Lindbergh High School students
Support programs and projects in Lindbergh Schools that

Lindbergh Schools Foundation Programs:

SCHOOL INFORMATION
Address: 10255 Musick Ave., St. Louis, Mo. 63123
Dressel Elementary School will reopen in fall 2017 as
Lindbergh Schools sixth elementary school. Construction
continues in 2016-17 on the 650-student building, which will serve
students in grades K-5. Lindbergh is experiencing aggressive
student enrollment growth and projects that Dressel will be full
on the day it opens.
CONSTRUCTION UPDATES
Lindbergh Schools will restore 8-10 much needed classrooms
at Lindbergh High School by vacating district-level departments
in fall 2017. The school district purchased the former Johnnys
Market property, 11555 Gravois Road, and will move Central
Office staff, including 12 departments and approximately 50
employees in all.
Every available classroom at LHS is currently being used for
instruction, and projections show that high school enrollment will
continue increasing to 750 students per grade level by 2020.
The district was fortunate to purchase the Johnnys property
at $76,397 below appraised market value. It is a one-time capital
expense, which means no funding comes from the operations
budget. Operations revenue will continue to be reserved for
salaries and expenses related to the classroom such as textbooks
and curriculum.

The Spirit of Lindbergh Teacher Grant Program awards

grants of up to $500 each year to teachers who propose
innovative and exciting projects for their classrooms. These
programs are supported by donations from parents and local
businesses, and from the Foundations online auctions. Every
dollar of every donation to the Spirit of Lindbergh fund is
invested in safe, high-yield accounts. Only the interest earned on
these accounts is used to fund the teacher grants, so each gift
will continue to generate income to fund these grants forever. In
January, 23 teacher grants were awarded, bringing the total
number of funded projects to 86 since the programs
establishment in 2008. These selected projects have touched
the lives of hundreds of children by more effectively engaging
students in the learning process.
The Lindbergh Schools Foundation Scholarship Program
manages and administers not only its own LSF Scholarship Fund,
but also a number of additional scholarships established in the
names of former teachers, administrators, parents and alumni. In
May, 44 scholarships were awarded to deserving seniors with a
total value of more than $44,000. The scholarship program is
funded through the purchase of engraved bricks in the LHS
Spirit Garden, online auctions, clothing collection boxes located
on several campuses, and direct donations from supporters.
The LHS Alumni Association provides scholarships to
Lindbergh High School seniors and supports various LHS
programs using funds raised through alumni donations and
sponsored events, including an annual trivia night and awards
ceremony. LHSAA also maintains the alumni database, assists in
organizing class reunions and helps support targeted LSF
initiatives. For more information, please visit www.
