Element 6.2 Influencing Local, District, State, and National Decisions Affecting Student Learning Activity: Discussions with central office staff about decisions at various levels Time: 8 hours Artifact: None Description: This summer I spent many hours at the central office, helping with various tasks and asking questions. Throughout the conversations and interviews, local, district, state, and national decisions affecting student learning came up often. Reflection: Its difficult to talk about education without local, district, state, and national decisions affecting student learning at least being mentioned. Most of our school requirements have been mandated or regulated from outside the school walls. The mention of such decisions was present in discussions and interviews with the superintendent, the elementary education/fine arts supervisor, the social service worker, and even transportation and maintenance. As an administrator, it important to not only understand these decisions, but also to be able to act to influence them.
