COMBINATION SWITCH READING FUNCTION

Description
BCM reads combination switch (lighting switch, wiper switch) status, and controls various electrical component according to the result.
BCM reads information of a maximum of 20 switches by combining five output terminals (OUTPUT 1 - 5)
and five input terminals (INPUT 1 - 5).

Operation Description
BCM periodically outputs pulse from the five input terminals
(INPUT 1 - 5) simultaneously.

G
PKID0801E

BCM periodically activates the transistor (output terminal side) in descending order (OUTPUT 5 4 3
2 1).
NOTE:
BCM changes transistor activation frequency under the sleep status.
Normal status
When BCM is in the normal status, the transistor activates every 10ms.
Sleep status
When BCM is in the sleep status, BCM enters power save mode. The transistor activates every 30ms.

BCM (BODY CONTROL MODULE)

< SERVICE INFORMATION >
Input terminal (INPUT) voltage changes according to transistor
activation [output terminal (OUTPUT) side] after turning any switch
ON.
BCM receives the pulse change as a signal from the output terminal (OUTPUT). BCM detects the signal with the BCM interface.
BCM judges which switch turns ON by the signal-detecting interface and the signal detecting timing.

Operation Table of BCM and Combination Switches

BCM reads operation status of the combination switch using the combinations shown in the table below.

JMMIA0988GB

NOTE:
Headlamp system has a dual circuit.
Front Wiper Intermittent Operation
Front wiper intermittent operation is determined from a combination of 3 switches (INT VOLUME 1, 2, and 3)
and vehicle speed signal.

Example: For wiper intermittent dial position 1

Using combination switch reading function, BCM detects ON/OFF status of INT VOLUME 1, 2, and 3.
When combination switch status is as listed below, BCM determines that it is wiper Intermittent dial position 1.
INT VOLUME 1: ON (Continuity exists between combination switch output 1 and input 3.)
INT VOLUME 2: ON (Continuity exists between combination switch output 1 and input 5.)
INT VOLUME 3: ON (Continuity exists between combination switch output 2 and input 4.)

Example (When lighting switch 1ST position is turned ON)

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.

TAIL LAMP switch joint in combination switch turns ON when setting lighting switch to 1ST.
Current flows from INPUT4 when activating the OUTPUT5 transistor.
BCM judges the lighting switch position as 1ST when detecting voltage change by flowing the current.
BCM transmits position lights request signal to IPDM E/R with CAN communication.
BCM judges that lighting switch holds the position as 1ST when detecting voltage change by activating
the OUTPUT5 transistor again.

NOTE:
Each OUTPUT terminal transistor is activated at 10 ms intervals. Therefore, after switch is turned ON, the
electrical loads are activated with a time delay. However, this time delay is so short that it cannot be noticed.
