To control and to manage its PDH-Access Link radio equipment, Siae Microelettronica has developed
a software module called Local Craft Terminal PDH-AL (LCT PDH-AL).
The LCT PDH-AL is an additional software module of the Subnetwork Craft Terminal (SCT) - Link
Manager Terminal (LMT) program.
The SCT/LMT graphical interface allows to manage and control a network formed by different types
of Siae equipments (SCT networks composed by maximum 100 equipments, LMT networks of
maximum 2 equipments).
Through its graphical interface, it is possible to activate/deactivate the connection with the
equipment, to check its functional status (current alarms and alarm history).
The additional software module has the aim to provide, for the SCT/LMT graphical interface,
commands and specific functions with respect to the equipment type to be managed.
In fact through the LCT PDH-AL graphical interface, the user can control the equipment functioning
status and he can also operate directly on the equipment management checking and changing the
configuration parameters, checking the quality parameters of the signal and executing some testing
and maintenance operations.
The access to the SCT/LMT graphical interface is executed at the starting up of the SCT/LMT
program. The access to the LCT PDH-AL graphical interface is executed selecting the LCT Interface
command present into the SCT/LMT main window.
2.
At the selection of the record relevant to an PDH-AL radio equipment (into the SCT/LMT main
window), and at the choice of the LCT Interface command, the program displays on the screen the
RadioPDH-AL window. The figure 1 shows an example.
Warning. The LCT PDH-AL graphical interface (RadioPDH-AL window) has been developed to be used
in Microsoft Windows ambient, then it respects the conventions - relevant to the positions of the
menus, to the window type, to the keyboard use, to he mouse use and so on - typical of such an
operating system.

The choice of the Fade Margin option allows executing the verification of the calculation of the link
margin (Fade Margin) 19.
The operation is automatically executed by the program using the parameters set by the user
(expected value of Fade Margin and possible external fading) and the power parameters (Ptx, rated
Ptx, etc.) stored in the equipment during the test of the equipment itself.
The calculation is executed on the radio link composed by the equipment which the Fade Margin
window is referred to (local equipment) and by the equipment located on the other end of the link
(remote equipment).
For the 1+1 equipment, the calculation is automatically executed on both the branches: first the
operation on the Tx branch in service is executed and on both the remote receivers, then the
program forces the switch in transmission and repeats the operation in such a way to calculate the
link margin for all the possible Tx/Rx: Tx1-Rx1, Tx1-Rx2, Tx2-Rx1, Tx2-Rx2 combinations. Before
activating the calculation for each single combination, the user is required, by means of a proper
message, if he wishes to continue or not.
When the calculation is activated, the Ptx level of the local equipment is automatically faded by 1dB
at a time. For each single fading, the Ptx value and the possible alarms are stored to a file. The Ptx
level is faded step by step until the activation of the LBER alarm on the remote terminal.
In 1+1 system, the calculation of the Fade Margin is executed on the link in service, at the end a
forced switch is automatically executed and the calculation is activated on the other link (at each
switch between Tx and Rx, where the calculation is made, the system asks for the confirmation to
continue).
The choice of the Fade Margin command opens the window displayed in Figure 13
By means of the parameters/push-buttons present in the Fade Margin window, it is possible:
to execute the calculation of the link margin and check the results
to check the values of the power parameters (Ptx, rated Ptx, etc.) stored into the equipment
and used for the calculation of the Fade Margin

For the calculation of the link margin, we mean the calculation of the difference between the
level normally received by the equipment and the level received on the activation of the LBER alarm
(10-6).
