Films:
Many times, a film, or part of a film, can bring things we study to life.
Because of this during this course I will show parts of films, and may even
show a film in its entirety if it truly advances the learning of the class. All
films will follow school policy (nothing above a PG-13 rating, even if it has
been edited). Additionally, if anything I show has a rating above G, I will
inform parents previously if not already included on this list. If at any time
you choose to have your child not watch something in class, an alternate
activity will be assigned.

Class Rules
Rule 1:
Be Respectful: Of me, your
classmates, and yourselves. Do not
do anything that could disrupt the
learning of anyone, including your
own. No remarks designed to be
hurtful will be allowed (including
but not limited to: race, gender,
class, disability, etc.). Remember:
You dont have to agree with
someone to like them and respect
them.
Rule 2:
Be Ready to Learn: This means
being on time, prepared with
materials and any homework, and
focused on the days lesson.
Rule 3:
Be Your Very Best: I will give you

Important Class Information:

Attendance: Coming to class is a priority. Any work missed because a student skips class is NOT able to be
made up.
Electronics Policy: Students will follow the electronics policy outlined in the student handbook.
Hall Pass: Students may not use the hall pass during the first or last ten minutes of class. Additionally, each
student will be given two passes to use during a term. They are not transferable between students or terms.
When your passes are gone, so are your hall pass privileges.
Late Work: Middle school is the time to prepare you for high school. This includes being responsible for
turning work in on time. If you are not ready to turn in an assignment when it is due, you do have the
option to turn it in late. Each late assignment will result in five participation points being lost. All late
work must be turned into the late work basket.
Make-up Work: If a student has a valid and excused absence, they should check the Absent Binder when
they return for a description of what they missed in class and what they need to do to make it up. Students
are responsible for making up what they miss- before asking the teacher they should check the binder,
then ask another student for clarification. If instructions are to get notes from someone the student
needs to approach other students and ask for those notes. If student missed something in the textbook
they need to come in during plus time. If an assignment was due when a student was absent it is due as
soon as they return.
Participation Points: Each student begins the term with 100 participation points, divided into five categories
of 20 points each based on the Centennial PRIDE Matrix (Personal Responsibility, Respect, Integrity,
Discipline, and Engagement). Students will lose points if they are not following Behavioral Expectations.
Points can be lost the following ways, and cannot be made up.
Personal Responsibility
Respect
Integrity
Discipline
Engagement

Not being prepared, being tardy= 5 points lost

Talking when others are talking, drawing on desk/textbook= 5 points lost
Copying someone elses assignment = 10 points, cheating on test= 20 points
Late work= 5 points lost per assignment
Not being on task= 5 points lost

Participation Points will be used to determine students citizenship grade, using the following scale.
O (Outstanding)
= 95-100 Points
S (Satisfactory)
= 75-94 Points
N (Needs Improvement) = 60-74 Points
U (Unsatisfactory)
= 0-59 Points

Plagiarism/Cheating: Plagiarism (saying something is your own work when it is not, which includes no
citations) and cheating are very serious offenses. Cheating includes but is not limited to ANY form of
communication with another student during the time allotted for a test, even if the particular student is
finished with their own test; copying assignments during class; or copying an assignment a student missed
(does not include notes). If a student plagiarizes or cheats they earn an automatic zero on the
assignment/test, with NO opportunity to make up the points. Additionally, parents will be contacted, and
the administration will be informed. Any further offenses will be treated even more severely.
Redoing Assignments: A student may only redo an assignment at Mrs. Eskeets discretion.

Tardy: Anyone not sitting in their seat working when the bell rings will be considered tardy. Each tardy will
deduct 5 participation points from a students grade. On the 3rd and 4th tardy students will be given a lunch
detention. On the 5th and 6th tardy students will be given an after-school detention.
Test Retakes: Test Retakes are only offered for one test per student for each term, and only if the student
scored below 80%. In order to be eligible for a retake a student must fill out a Request to Retest form,
signed by a parent/guardian, which certifies that they have completed additional studying since the first
time they took the test in the form of two additional separate activities (ex: flashcards, writing definitions,
making a timeline, making a review game). Proof of the activities (such as the definitions, flashcards, etc.)
must be attached. Request to Retests must be submitted no later than the day before the student intends to
retake the test. Test retakes are only worth 80% of the original points.
Accommodations: Please come and see me as soon as possible to discuss health and learning disabilities. I want you to
have a positive experience this school year, and communication with me will be the best way to work out any situation.
The sooner you let me know about a problem, the sooner we can find a solution.
Parental Contact: I will contact parents regularly (anywhere from weekly to bi-weekly) about what we are doing in
class, when assignments/projects are due, when tests are, and on what films we are watching in class. Please include
your email if you would like to be part of these emails. Additionally, there is a class website as explained previously.

Content Note: In this class students will be learning the basic founding and beliefs of various
world religions, including but not limited to Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, and Islam. This
will be purely academic and within the scope of what is necessary in order to fully understand the
four civilizations we will be studying.
