Rev. No: C

rolling waves of vibrations resulting from expected traffic flow, etc., without deformation
of the joints or movement of the core or other components within the joints.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:
8.1

General:

The installation of all cable systems included in this Standard shall

be as per SCECO Specification No.5.31 (latest edition).

8.2

Immediately before laying, the oil pressure in the drum tank and the cable shall be checked
and compared with the pressure at which the cable left the works, due allowance be1ng
made for any d1fference 1n ambient temperature.
Any difference in pressure not accounted for by a temperature or altitude change shall be
investigated and remedial action taken.
The minimum pressure at which oil-filled cables shall be installed is dependent upon the
profile of the route. Precautions shall be taken before installation to ensure that when
laying a drum length of cable on a route where the drum is located below the highest point
of the route to be covered by the length concerned that the oil pressure, in mbar, at the
drum position is at least equal to 87 times the difference in height, in metres, between the
drum position and the highest point on the route to be covered by the drum length, plus
350 mbar.
