Revealing Yeshua

The Tallit
Jairus
Mark 5:22,23 And, behold, there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by
name; and when he saw Him, he fell at His feet, And besought Him greatly, saying, My
little daughter lies at the point of death: I pray You come and lay Your hands on her, that
she may be healed; and she will live.
Mark 5:39-42 And when He came in, He said to them, Why make do you make this ado,
and weep? the girl is not dead, but sleeps. And they laughed Him to scorn. But when He
had put them all out, He took the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were
with him, and entered in where the damsel was lying. And he took the damsel by the
hand, and said to her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say to thee,
arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve
years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
Jairus / Yair was a ruler of the synagogue whose 12-year old daughter was very ill. He
asked Yeshua to go to her and lay hands on her. A huge crowd followed Yeshua as He
went. But on the way, there was a woman who had suffered a bleeding problem
for 12 years who was healed after touching the tzitzit of Yeshuas tallit Mark 5:2143.
After this woman had touched Yeshua, He was ceremonially unclean. Jairus was one of
the rulers of the synagogue and would have known the rules that Yeshua would not
thereafter be able to go to his daughter. But as the dead were considered to be unclean,
Yeshua could now enter the room of the dead girl. In fact, He was the only one who
could!
Note that rabbis as well as little children who had died, were wrapped in grave clothes
and then a tallit. It was common practice to cover someone with a tallit before praying
over that person. Either way the little girl would have been covered with a tallit when
Yeshua says to her Talitha cumi.
Note her name is not Talitha! Nor should this phrase be translated as Damsel I say to
thee arise. The Hebrew is Eleyah tallitha that is God speaking to the girl under the
tallit, get up.
Did you notice that both the girl of 12 and the woman of 12 years suffering are given
new life?
Consider why And he charged them much that no man should know this. Understanding
the Hebrew, we can now realise that Yeshua is speaking as God and openly stating this.
Maybe He did not want those gathered around Him to reveal that He was Messiah and
not that the miracle of the girl should be kept secret.
