Re: LTO Opportunity

Every child deserves a champion an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power
of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be. Rita Pierson
I am pleased to submit my application for the teaching position with your school. As a teacher devoted to 21st Century
teaching practices, a current DDSB Long Term Occasional Teacher (Date of Hire: Nov.1, 2013) and a recent College
Professor at Loyalist College, I am confident that I possess the qualifications, skills, passion and commitment that make
me an ideal candidate for this position.
During the past two years, I have gained valuable and immeasurable experiences in LTO positions in South and Central
Oshawa schools. I managed a classroom with 11 IEPs including diverse behavioural challenges along with varying
exceptionalities and needs. I am dedicated to explaining the relevance of learning, utilizing learning goals, and co-creating
success criteria with students. I have been deeply involved in EQAO preparation, BAS, LLI, and Leaps and Bounds, and I
have learned much about comprehensive numeracy and the 3-part lesson plan while planning and implementing lessons
with a Math Student Work Study teacher.
In addition, I am devoted to my own professional development and learning, and I have worked hard to upgrade and
improve my teaching qualifications, practices, and abilities. I have obtained Intermediate English Additional Basic
Qualifications along with Additional Qualifications in Kindergarten I and II and Guidance and Career Education. I have
recently completed Stanford Universitys How to Learn Math course taught online by Jo Boaler. I have attended
numerous professional development workshops focused on 21st Century learners, technology, applications, inquiry,
success criteria, assessment, and building partnerships with parents; furthermore, I have developed a strong ability to
differentiate learning in appreciation of learner needs and diversity.
Teaching is my second career; therefore, I also have a high degree of life and career experience. Through my experiences, I
obtained an understanding and respect for the challenges facing youth in the 21 st century. My experiences as both a
teacher and a professor have taught me the importance of facilitating an inclusive learning environment which recognizes
the interests, needs, and learning styles of todays youths. The feedback that I have received has been incredibly positive
over the 7 years I have spent as a teacher; please feel free to review my appraisal.
I am passionate about being involved in school events, extra-curriculars, and coaching opportunities; therefore, I have
recently coached Intermediate Softball and Junior and Intermediate Basketball. Previously, I volunteered in the
community as both a soccer and a hockey coach. I hold the National Coaching and Respect in Sport Certifications with the
Ontario Minor Hockey Association (OMHA), and I have additional past coaching and team leadership experiences in
Rugby and womens hockey. I am a team player, and I value opportunities to collaborate with peers and colleagues.
Technology, inquiry, and the ability to self-regulate are very big components of the 21st Century learning environment, and
my classroom recognizes the needs of the 21 st Century learner. I use technology for communication, bulletin boards,
interactive strategy walls, peer and self assessment, collaboration, and inquiry opportunities. I would be pleased to further
discuss my qualifications and skills that would benefit both the students and the school in regards to this opportunity. I
truly appreciate your time and consideration.
Sincerely,

Julie Watson
