Philippians 4:6-7 Lord, I pray that my children will
not be anxious for anything as they go back to
school. Call them to Yourself in prayer so that they
will submit their requests to You with thanksgiving.
Grant them Your peace in their hearts and minds in
such great measure that they are blown away.
Colossians 3:23 Father, help my children to
understand that whatever work they do is not to
please teachers or even to please their parents, but it
is ultimately to please You, their Heavenly Father.
They work for You and not for anyone else.
2 Corinthians 12:9 Lord, grant that my children
may rest in the fact that Your grace is sufficient to
carry them through whatever comes their way. When
challenges arise that are too much for them, You are
carrying them by Your great strength.
Philippians 4:8 Jesus, when we compare
ourselves to others, it is easy to focus on ways we
dont measure up instead of focusing on what You
have made us to be. In those moments, remind my
children to focus on what is true, what is noble,
whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely
and of good report. Lord, if there is anything good or
praiseworthy, help her to meditate on those things.
Isaiah 43:2 Lord, school can be overwhelming.
Turn my childrens attention to the fact that when
they pass through the waters, You are with them.
When they go through rivers, they will not be
overtaken. When they must walk through fire, You
will be with them and will protect them from being
scorched.
Isaiah 54:17 Father, the Enemy is always on the
hunt to harm us. I speak Your word over my child that
says no weapon formed against them shall prosper
and every tongue that rises against them in
judgement shall be condemned. It is their heritage as
Your servants and Your righteousness will protect
them.

Join
us for
our back

Kids

Scripture,

King Jesus!

Proverbs 1:5 Father, Your word tells us

that a wise man will hear and increase
learning and that a man of understanding
will attain wise counsel. Lord, give my
children godly teachers who can provide
wise counsel and inspire them to search
after learning. And one they have learned,
give them understanding in how to apply
what they know. Make them wise.
Matthew 12:35 Jesus, You tell us that a
good man out of the good treasure of his
heart brings forth good things, while an evil
man out of the evil in his heart brings forth
evil things. I have tried to store up good in
my childs heart. Help them to be ministers
of good so that they reap goodness from
others. Quickly show them ways in which
they might be sowing evil so that they can
correct their ways. Give them wisdom in
dealing with other children whose ways
arent full of goodness.
AUGUST 7, 2013 Written by ASHLEY MILLS HILL

There can often be a temptation to hear the

Word of God through men, as the word of men
from men. This is why Paul commends these
words to the church in Thessalonica.
The second thought I had concerning worship
this past week is that there is a complication in
Gods chosen instrument of worship. What do I
mean by that? Is the guitar out of tune? The
drums too loud or the piano out of key? Not
quite.
THE INSTRUMENT OF WORSHIP
You see, God uses human teachers, preachers
and worship leaders to deliver his Word. These
are the instruments of worship, and every
human teacher, preacher and worship leader
gives people reasons not to listen and can
create complications. Maybe Jake as the
worship leader wears his sandals, gets a little
too excited, or there is a technical glitch with
sound. Maybe I as the preacher say something,
whether intentionally or unintentionally, in a way
that is difficult to hear.
You see every teacher, preacher and worship
leader is human, and in their humanity gives
every listener, every one of you, reasons not to
listen. This is important to remember, because
the object of our worship is perfect, but the
instrument of our worship is not.
So the job of the teacher, preacher and worship
leader is, through prayer, Gods Word, and the
help of the Holy Spirit, to minimize the
complications, not get rid of them because that
is an impossible target to hit. The job of the
congregation is, through prayer, Gods Word,
and the help of the Holy Spirit, to overlook the
complications and frustrations. And then our job
together is to worship, magnify and glorify the
Lord.
Paul addressed this with the church in
Thessalonica:
And we also thank God constantly for this,
that when you received the word of God,
which you heard from us, you accepted it
not as the word of men but as what it really
is, the word of God, which is at work in you
believers. (1 Thessalonians 2:13)

Friends, I believe that if we get this one wrong,

in all the places where we gather to hear the
Word taught, we wont submit and receive the
Word, allowing it to create conviction in us.
I cant tell you the number of times folks have
come to me after the service and said You
made me sad, glad or really stinkin mad, as
though what I said were my words
Galatians 1:10 says: For am I now seeking
the approval of man, or of God? Or am I
trying to please man? If I were still trying to
please man, I would not be a servant of
Christ.
Richard Foster says in his book A Celebration
of Discipline: True worship begins in holy
expectancy, it ends in holy obedience. Holy
obedience saves worship from becoming an
opiate, an escape from the pressing needs of
modern life.
Fosters words to us are important because as
he states, the church is not an escape. In every
church service, every gathering and every
place were the word of God and the worship of
God are being made known. People are
receiving the opportunity to be changed by the
power of Gods Word.
This elevates the importance of true worship
because at any given moment decisions, not
just for today, but for all of eternity are being
made. Lives are being changed, families are
being reshaped. Encouragement, not just for
today, but for eternity is being stored up.
Every place where the Word and worship of
God come, people have the opportunity to be
prepared for the new heavens and new earth,
and oh, what a day that will be! Amen.
