Dear Parents,

I am excited to be teaching Kindergarten at Woodstock Elementary and look forward to

sharing the year with your kindergartener. The following is information that will help us
have a great year.
Volunteers:
I would like to have parents help with our centers. Our centers will be on Tuesdays and
Thursdays. In the morning class you would need to arrive around 8:45 and stay until
9:45 a.m and in the afternoon class you would need to arrive around 12:40 and stay until
1:40 p.m. It is a great opportunity to be involved in the classroom.
Arrival and Dismissal:
Children should be dropped off at the kindergarten playground. For the morning class
they should not be dropped off before 8:00 and afternoon class before 11:45 as there are
no adults outside to watch them. I will open the door for them to come in for the morning
class at 8:10 and the afternoon class at 11:50. Monday through Thursday you will pick
them up at the kindergarten playground for the morning class at 11:15 a.m and the
afternoon class at 2:55, and Fridays or short days for the morning class at 10:10 a.m. and
the afternoon class 12:40. On bad weather days, the children will go to the gym and be
dismissed to come through the building to the kindergarten rooms.
Attendance:
Every day in kindergarten is important. Please try to be here on time. If your child is
absent or going to be absent please email or call the office to excuse the absence.
Backpacks:
Your child should bring a book bag or backpack with them to school each day. Please
check it daily for notes, messages, and homework. One of the best reviews of the days
learning is to have your child explain the items in their backpack to you. There will be

days that nothing goes home, but please check and talk to your child about what does
come home.
Snacks and Birthday Treats:
We will not have daily snacks in kindergarten. Please make sure your child has had
breakfast or lunch before they come to school. On occasion, we will sample food to
compliment our curriculum. Please make sure I know of any allergies or dietary concerns
regarding your child.
You may send a snack to celebrate your childs birthday. Please be aware that it must be
a commercially packaged product and we are unable to share any food that has been
prepared at home. Because our day is so short, it works best if you can send a packaged
treat for students to take home.
Please be sensitive about passing out birthday party invites at school. Kids know who
has and has not been invited and feelings get hurt.
Homework:
I will send home a homework folder each Monday. Your child will need your help and
direction to complete the assignments. Please return the folder on Friday so I can repack
it for the next week. There will be weekly assignments that will go home which may
include math, letter practice, handwriting, reading assignments, or sight word lists to
learn. I usually dont send home homework if we have a short week.
Homework is not meant to be stressful for parents or students. It is a good opportunity to
help your child develop good homework habits. Feel free to adapt the assignments to
your childs academic ability.
Classroom Rules:

*Stay in your own personal space.
