What is KCN?
Korean Culture Night [KCN] is a cultural show, hosted
annually by UB's Undergraduate Korean Student
Association [KSA]. Our main goal is to promote
and spread Korean cultural awareness. Through
this event, we provide a venue where students and the
local community can gather to celebrate Korean culture.
Last year, our student body displayed a talent for
gathering support and resources. They were able to
organize a show and put on a strong performance,
making Korean Culture Night 2009, a successful event.
KCN 2010, hopes to utilize the same resources
for a different style of show. The 2009 show
attracted an audience of over 250 students,
professors, and other members of the Buffalo
community while highlighting Korean culture in the
form of a talent show through a variety of
individual and group acts.
This year for our show, we look to expand upon last
year's performances. Instead of separate acts, we intend
to combine a number of cultural performances such as;
Korean folk drumming, traditional & modern dances,
and tae kwon do into one theatrical performance.
This year we will tie together all of the separate
performances from last year, and work together to entertain
the Buffalo audience with universal themes that can be
appreciated by all.

Themes of Korean Culture

Night 2010
This years Korean Culture Night at SUNY Buffalo is a
modern adaptation of a Korean traditional folktale. It is
a story about a son who never listens to his mother,
and does the opposite of what she tells him to do.
The Disobedient Frog
( chaung-gae-gu-li)
serves as this years
foundation since the
folktale teaches us valuable
lessons that can be appreciated
and understood by all.
Our modern adaptation pits our teenage protagonist,
Amy, in a world where she fails to appreciate something
that is most dearest to us all, our family. During her
journey, she meets John and immediately a relationship
forms where Amy begins to learn about the importance of
family, and questions her own attitudes and feelings
towards her own mother.
Throughout the evening, our show will incorporate
performances such as traditional Korean drumming
performed by the Korean Folk Art Club and Tae Kwon Do.
The show will also integrate traditional Korean dances
as well as a modern K-pop performance that hopes to provide
a night of excitement as we take you through Amys journey.

Preparation
for KCN
In the production for UB's KCN 2010, our Staff and Cast
will participate in the creation of an original production
that involves script-writing, story development,
set and graphic design, and dance choreography.
The hard work and dedication of those who participate in
KCN takes its final form in April 2010 at UB's Student
Union Theater, where over 300 students, professors, and
members of the community are expected to attend. This years
KCN hopes to build upon the foundations that were laid out
in years past and exceed the expectations of past
Korean Culture Nights.

We Need Your Support

Please support our aspiring efforts to continue a tradition
in spreading cultural awareness and encouraging active
community involvement. Our show, KCN 2010 will provide a
favorable and beneficial business opportunity to reach out
to a broader audience that consists of UB students and
faculty, the Korean-American community, and other local
businesses. KCN offers a brilliant staged media event with
advertisement publications being distributed at local
businesses in the City of Buffalo as well as the UB campus.
