Report Summary
( ntrod uction:
An independent analysis of the FieldTurf synthetic playing surface, relative to gmax and general field conditions, was
requested by the client. G-MAX Testing and Field Inspections were performed on the Project Field Walter Johnson High
School Football Field on July 11, 2016.
Ten separate locations were tested for G-MAX values. Each test location had three G-MAX tests performed in order to
obtain the average G-MAX. The tests were performed using ASTM certified and calibrated equipment, and were
performed at locations on the field as determined by the ASTM F 1936-10 Specifications. The test results reported herein
reflect the performance of the points tested at the time of testing and at the temperatures reported.
Findings/Recommendations:
No site abnormalities were found and there were no deviations from standard test procedures. All test points met the
requirement of less than 200 average G-MAX when tested except for those indicated by Bold Red and shown in the Test
Result G-Max Table.

Observations/Recommendations: This field is laying over, matted down, the fibers are shedding and are showing signs of
excess fiber wear (especially in high wear areas - creases, penalty kicks, front of goals, center of field, etc.). The inlay lines are heavily
worn, more so than the green body of the field, and are brittle and breaking off. The field appears to receive a tremendous amount of
play. There were several inlays that were coming loose, and several areas where the "plug inserts" were not in place. King Sports was
on-site and I instructed them to repair these areas. There are invasive grasses encroaching along the edges of the field that need to be
sprayed with Round-Up. There are also signs of slight planarity changes at several of the high wear areas (center of field, creases, and
penalty kick lines). They are not significant at this time, however, should be monitored. The shedding fiber, especially the inlays, need
to be monitored closely to see if the condition worsens. The pipe sleeve holes for the back-net are exposed, causing a significant
hazard if someone was to fall on them. 2" steel pipe back-net needs to be installed or pipes removed. Continue annual GMAX testing
to ensure proper performance of field. Watch fiber closely. If amount of play continues, this field will need to be replaced at its 8 year
warranty. I am not sure if the crease areas and other high wear areas will make the 8 year warranty and may need to be replaced
sooner.
-A non-field related item is the running track around the field. There are numerous areas where the track material has come loose,
creating trip hazards for the student athletes. I would recommend having a track professional assess the situation to determine if it can
be repaired or needs to be resurfaced. I would recommend replacing with a urethane surface.
