OPPRESSION

Oppresion, the prolonged cruel or unjust treatment or control is ever present in

every social order since time in memorial. It has become wide spread especially in third
world countries where protection of basic human rights is neglected. Oppression takes
form in many kind such as involuntary servitude or slavery, discrimination by race, sex or
religion and oppression because of high inequalities of wealth.
Seeing the photos that I gathered I could very well say that oppression is a match
ill and unacceptable exercise of power and authority that brings misery, agony, torment,
horror and hell to people who experience it. No matter what and how a person strives to
overcome the challenges in life to uplift and alleviate their living but because of
oppression there will always be a wall to hold them down and prevent them achieving it.
It is like a heavy anchor that hold the society still from moving on. A leech that sucks
vitality of a person, a termite that slowly decay the foundation of our very being. My
feelings are outbursting with mix emotions, anger, sadness, dismay, and sorrow because
of what I have learned and discovered about the truth behind oppression. I cannot help
myself but to imagine why people resort to oppression, is it for gain or Is it for
satisfaction? But one thing I am sure of is that oppression must end.
Simple and little things may not totally eradicate oppression but it is certainly will
contribute in the whole fight against the unjust treatment and control over people. The
simple act of not allowing bullying is helping in stopping the culture of intimidation. The
act of consideration to people not because their race, sex or religion is helping in ending
the practice of racism, sexism and religion discrimination.
As a final word I would like to leave a quote by Martin Luther King Jr. saying that
The ultimate tragedy is not the oppression and cruelty by the bad people but the silence
over that by the good people, telling us that it is not perpetuation of oppression and
cruelty that is the ultimate tragedy but it is the muteness by the good people over it.
