SPEAKING SAMPLE TASK 2 MAGAZINE
Mem hc k topic ny n, topic v media rt rng, bao gm c magazine lun y nh
Describe an interesting magazine. You should say:
how you know about this magazine
where you can buy it
what it contains
and explain why you think this magazine is interesting.
I dont actually read magazines much nowadays I generally get my information from the
internet. But one magazine I do read is The Week.
I found out about this because of my sister and brother-in-law. Theyve been subscribers to it for
quite some time now. The last time I went to visit them I saw it on the table in their kitchen and
just picked it up to read.
Im not exactly certain where you can buy it. I imagine that you can get it from local newsagents
and other shops that sell newspapers and magazines. But when I decided to buy it I just filled out
a coupon inside the magazine that gave me a free offer so I get it delivered to my door with the
post.
I decided to subscribe to it because it saves me time! It contains the best and most interesting
articles from several different newspapers and is neatly divided into different topics. I dont have
to spend time any more browsing different sites on the net. So for instance I can find out about
World News and read articles first published in French or German newspapers.
Why is it interesting? There are lots of reasons but I think what I like most is that you find
articles written from different viewpoints. You never know quite what to expect. Thats slightly
unusual in a magazine.
scientists measure. If you asked my parents what the envionment was like 20 or 30 years ago
here, they would probably describe it as very similar to now, but with less houses.
- Do older people in your country have the same attitudes towards the environment as young
people?
- Personally I think they care for it a lot more than most young people, they understand the need
for recycling and they've heard all the arguments about global warming and climate change. The
reality is that older people were more in touch with nature than younger peope are now. While
climate change and all the clean energy policies seem to be a current trend, older people had less
impact on the enviornment because they basically consumed less and they didn't have the
'disposable culture' that we have today.
- What are some ways that the government could use to help educate people about the
environment?
- The government already use many different ways such as TV, newspapers and magazines to
tell people about problems regarding the environment and also to introduce new energy policies
and envionmental initiatives.
Advertising, whether it's on TV or the internet makes people aware of changes that are
happeneing. It coud be the latest community environmental program or the release of the latest
model electric car or hybrid vehicle.
I suppose all the media channels are effective. Using schools certainly seems to have produced a
generation which is more aware of enviornmental impact regarding many things such as industry
and consumerism.
- Why do you think people go to restaurants when they want to celebrate something?
- I guess everyone has their own reasons, but probably because its not something they do every
day, so it seems more special, especially if its an important occasion. The other big benefit is
that nobody has to do the cooking or clearing up afterwards so everyone can simply enjoy the
celebration or event whichever it is. Nobody has to do anything. Its always nice to be waited on,
so I think thats why most people prefer it.
- Which are more popular in your country: fast food restaurants or traditional restaurants?
- Theyre both popular, but in different ways and for different reasons. I think fast food
restaurants are popular for grabbing a quick bite or snack, as they are fast and you can usually
find one nearby. Traditional restaurants are more popular for special occasions or going out for
lunch or dinner at the weekend when people have more time to sit and enjoy the food and the
ambience or atmosphere of the place. They usually cost more too, so maybe people dont go as
often, but theyre still popular. I dont think anyone would consider gong to a fast food place for
a special occasion unless it was a kids birthday party or something similar, in which case it
makes a lot of sense, as some of these places cater specially for such events.
- Why do you think that is?
- Why are they both popular? I think its because they both have good and bad things about them
they both cater for different needs and situations, and they both do what they do well, I suppose
it depends what you are looking for when you want to eat.
- Some people say that food in an expensive restaurant is always better than food in a cheap
restaurant would you agree?
-In my experience its not that simple. Ive has some amazingly good food in cheap restaurants
and some disgustingly bad food in a supposedly classy and expensive place. I think thats why
'word of mouth' advertising is so important in the restaurant business. You simply cant
guarantee that a place that looks expensive and charges a lot of money will indeed offer a better
dining experience than a cheaper restaurant with fewer frills. The service can be just the same
and the quality of food the same too it might only be the surroundings that are more upmarket
in reality.

Im going to talk to you about my friend Annabelle. Shes the best cook I know and shes made
lots of great meals for me. I know that every time I go around to her place to eat that Ill be given
something wonderful.
Annabelle isnt a professional chef or anything like that- although I do think that she could easily
make a living as a cook. In fact shes a lawyer and has a full-time job that means she can only
ever cook in her spare time.
I first got to know Annie when we were at college together. We were both first year students and
didnt know anyone else and we became close because we lived next door to each other in the
accommodation block. Even back then she was a terrific cook and she would invite me over to
her room on a regular basis. Neither of us had much money but while I survived on a diet of
marmite sandwiches, she would make soups and stews the sort of really practical food that
lasts for a while and can be re-heated and costs very little to make because the ingredients are so
cheap.
What kind of food does she cook? Well, shes got a little more adventurous since out student
days and she now has a huge variety of dishes. Shes quite experimental and so you can never
quite tell what kind kind of food will be served up when you go around. It could be traditional
French cuisine, a Spanish paella or even a curry.
Describe a positive experience that you had as a teenager. You should say
- what the positive experience was
- where you were
- who you were with
- and explain why you found the experience positive.
Sample:
Im going to describe the first time I visited Englands capital city, London, on a school trip
when I was a teenager. I had never been to London before, and it was great to share that
experience with my school friends.
The positive experience wasnt confined to one particular place in London. As far as I remember,
I enjoyed the whole trip, from the coach journey to the visits to various tourist attractions. We
got off the coach near the Houses of Parliament, and so one of my first memories was seeing the
famous Big Ben clock tower. We also visited the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and
Trafalgar Square.
As I said earlier, it was a school trip, and I think there were around thirty of us, including two
teachers. I was with a group of close friends, which made the experience more enjoyable.
What really struck me about London was that it was historic but modern and thriving at the same

where you read or heard about this story
and explain why this news story was interesting to you.
Sample:
Okay, Im going to tell you the story or a story I read in a newspaper recently - it wasnt front
page news it didnt hit the headlines or anything like that but it was one of those almost human
interest stories that I find fascinating.
It was about a group of men led by a fifty year old who decided that they would row from
Canada I think it was to the Magnetic North Pole and that was a distance of about 450 miles.
What was so interesting about the story was the idea of rowing to the North Pole which is
supposed to covered by ice and the reason this group of people decided to do it was to highlight
the fact that climate change had impacted the polar cap and to they wanted to draw
everybodys attention to the seriousness of this issue.
And another reason I found it fascinating was well it was just a very adventurous story. The
idea of sort of rowing through ice floes and I suppose I have a personal interest here because
when I was at university I used to row myself and I know how difficult it is just to row on a river
but on the ocean, trying to navigate through all those ice floes thats really quite something

I'm going to talk about an advertisement for Coca-Cola, which is one of the BIGGEST BRANDS

The advert shows a picture of Santa Claus smiling and holding a bottle of Coke. I think THE

The advert is interesting because the company is DELIBERATELY TRYING TO INFLUENCE

They are presenting the drink as something special, a gift for Christmas. However, Coca-Cola is
not necessarily a healthy drink for children; it contains a lot of sugar. Maybe this kind of

As the last post of Mr. X post was a mindmap showing how to describe a person who has
influenced your life, this is the sample from Ms. Nga, please take a look! Like if you feel it is
helpful so teachers and tutor at Tutorschool will continue to post samples.
My favorite teacher ever is Mr. C, not only because of his teaching methods but also of his
influence on my life. He was my math teacher when I was in grade 11 of high school. Before
having classes with him, Math had been a nightmare for me, made me confused all the time
when I got stuck with numbers and especially with geometry problems. When Mr. C had first
class with us, our classmates and me were so impressed. He was looking very charming at his
middle 40s, in a blue shirt and a dark blue tie. But what outstands from him was white glasses
that suited him and his friendly smile. After the first class, we were very happy because with him,
Math became so comprehensible. He was so strict but supportive and trustworthy. When he gave
us homework, it must have done before classes; otherwise, we would get in trouble: detentions,
or having a talk with our principle. However, he always gave us a hand when we had problems
of understanding new concepts in Math or even listening to then giving us advices on personal
problems. To me, he is my mentor. When I was in grade 12, he was my form teacher (homeroom
teacher). At the point of choosing the university I would register for the entrance exams, I was
struggling. I didn't know what job I want to do, what would fit me most. I was worried and
couldn't sleep for nights. I was noticed by him and he seemed to see my abilities and potential, so
he spent 2 hours talking with me about jobs that were considered high paid at that time, and jobs
that I would love to do. Finally, I decided to choose journalism as my future career. Without his
guide, I wouldn't have enjoyed being a successful journalist like I am now. Not only that, he
gives me advices whenever I need as we've still been in contact. Now, I think of him as a family
member, a teacher and a great friend.

1. What is the relationship between leisure and the economy?
Well, people SPEND A LOT OF MONEY ON ALL SORTS OF LEISURE ACTIVITIES
nowadays, so I think leisure is a very important part of the economy of most countries. Leisure
could be anything that people do in their free time, such as eating out, going to the cinema,
watching a football match, or staying in a hotel. Millions of people are employed in these areas.
2. How does the economy benefit from people's leisure activities?
The LEISURE INDUSTRY MAKES A HUGE CONTRIBUTION TO THE ECONOMY. As I
said before, it KEEPS MILLIONS OF PEOPLE IN EMPLOYMENT, and all of these employees
pay their taxes and have money to spend on other goods and services. At the same time, most
people SPEND SOME OF THEIR EARNINGS ON LEISURE ACTIVITIES, and this money
therefore goes back into the economy.
3. Do men and women enjoy the same type of leisure activities?
Yes and no. I think both men and women enjoy things like eating in restaurants or going to the
cinema, but I'm sure there are other activities that are MORE POPULAR WITH ONE GENDER.
For example, I think more men than women go to football matches

things too much, or at least only yourself, if you are late to meet friends or for an appointment, or
if you are getting things done in your house. But at work, it will cause problems if you don't
manage your time effectively because you could miss deadlines or miss appointments. You could
lose your job. So at work is when it is most important to manage your time
SPEAKING SAMPLE PART 3 'FESTIVALS'
1. Do you have festivals in your country?
Yes, we do, we have many in our culture and as there are various ethnic groups within Vietnam
there are some celebrations which are universal and others which only certain groups of people
celebrate.
2. Tell me about a local celebration in your town.
OK, there are a few, but apart from the big ones like Tet which is celebrated throughout the
country, I can tell you about the Co Loa Festival which is a special parade which passes through
several different locations throughout Hanoi and as part of the parade there are some interesting
things to see such as wrestling and cockfighting. The parade normally happens in February each
year. It is based on the legend about An Duong King who came from Au Lac and he had a magic
crossbow. The legend says that a Golden Tortoise, presented An Duong Vuong with a very
powerful magic crossbow that could kill many enemy soldiers with only one shot. But the kings
daughter told the secret of the magic crossbow to her husband - he was the rebel leader's son the legend says that when her father realized he had been betrayed by his own daughter, he killed
her and then killed himself.
3. What is the relevance of international festivals or celebrations to the worlds community?
When it's international I think it's very important because it allows us to learn more and
understand more about different countries and their cultures. It's always interesting to read about
these things but to actually see examples at festivals or international events is much better - and
sometimes you can meet and talk to the participants. It is a good thing for international relations
and that is imortant as many people are becoming more mobile and ned to be aware of different
aspects of life in various parts of the world.
SPEAKING SAMPLE PART 1 'WEATHER'
1. Lets talk about the weather. What is the weather like in your country?
Its generally warm all year round, between 18C and 32C, and there are two distinct periods or
seasons, a dry one and then the rainy season. The rainy season only lasts for about three months
so its quite short, most of the year its dry with just some occasional light showers.
2. What weather do you like more, hot or cold? Why?
Hot, definitely. I dont like cold weather, I think its horrible. I think hot, or warm, weather is
much better, everything is easier, you can wear fewer clothes, you dont have to heat your house
or apartment and its much nicer to spend time outside.
3. Do you think you can live in extreme hot or extreme cold conditions? Why?
Personally, I wouldnt really want to live in either of the extremes, but some people do. There are
people who live in very cold places and others who live in incredibly hot climates. I suppose they
are used to it so they never really think about it much. I prefer when the climate is comfortable
rather than extremely hot or cold. I guess the people who do live in locations where the climate is
extreme do so because thats where they were born and its normal for them.

My teacher was an ex-ballet dancer trained in classical dance in France, but she also taught us

I'm not sure if I would learn or study more about dancing now, I'm more interested in drama and
acting, but I will always be very grateful to my mother for giving me the chance to learn and take
dance classes and to my dance teacher for giving me such a special gift that I can still enjoy now.
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 2 - A JOURNEY]
Describe a journey [e.g. by car, plane, boat] that you remember well. You should say:
where you went
how you travelled
why you went on the journey
and explain why you remember this journey well.
SAMPLE ANSWER
I'd like to tell you about a trip I took with three friends of mine about a year ago. We were in
Mexico and we decided to hire a car and travel around the country for four weeks. We did some
planning before we set off, but not that much, we wanted it to be like an adventure. We chose
one of the major areas in the North, East, West and South of the country to visit and planned to
visit some other intersting places while traveliing between those four major areas.
We all took turns driving and it was truly a great trip, one that I'm sure we'll all remember for a
long time. Like I said, we didn't really have a plan but we wanted to see as much of the country
as we could in the time we had free.... so we just used to drive for a couple of hours and then stop
in a village or town and take a walk around and see some of the sights, have something to eat and
drink and relax a little. Then we'd continue on to the next place we had marked on our map.
In the evenings we would find a hotel and settle in for the night, go for something to eat, maybe
go to a bar or restaurant and have a look around the place. We met some very interesting people
and also had some good times... we spent one evening dancing with mariachi bands and I can
remember we met a group of foreign students on another evening in a restaurant, they were from
Europe, and we spent a lot of time talking with them.
There are various reasons I will never forget that particular trip. One of them is the sheer size of
the country... it's massive, and each area is different, there's a lot of diversity in terms of the
climate, the enviornment and people and so on. Then there were specific moments that are
unforgettable like driving across the desert which lasted for hours and hours... it was truly
immense and we only saw one other vehicle while we were driving... and spending Christmas in
Cancun was great fun, on the beach having a great time together. Really, so many happy
memories we all have from the time we spent traveling and exploring. The whole experience was
just amazing!
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 3]
1. What do you conside to be the most important factors relating to the place where you
work/study?
Well, as I said, this university has an excellent academic reputation, an international student
body, the staff are very good, and many people who work in the ministry of commerce studied

here in the past. As I am studying Economics and would like to work in the ministry in the future,
these were some of the reasons why I chose to study here. It seemed the most logical choice.
2. Should work-at-home jobs be well paid or not? [Why/Why not?]
I think it depends on the job. Nowadays many executives and professionals do some or all of thir
work from home, thanks to technology allowing them to communicate from wherever they are.
But there are also people who do manual work at home, making things to sell at markets. There
is a big difference between the type of work people might be able to do at home, so it's sensible
that what they earn depends on what they do - not where they do it.
3. What is the situation with work-at-home jobs in your country currently?
Honestly, I'm not sure, I know that soome artisans work from home and my father, who is a
corpoarte lawyer, spends maybe half of his time working at home and the rest of the time in
meeting s with clients and in the offices of his company. Apart from that I know that there are
many jobs where people work from home using the internet in some countries but here I'm not
sure... I've never really thought about it or looked into it.
4. What do you think will be the situation regarding work-at-home jobs 10 years from now?
I think that more people will work from home, especially professional people. There are many
advantages, it can save time and travel, allow more people to do more work and there are many
new careers which are based on technology nowadays and these are perfect for people working
from home because they really don't need to go to an office or factory every day to do their work.
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 3 - SHOPPING]
1. What do you think are the advantages of buying things from shops rather than markets?
Well, the obvious one is the shop is a permanent location while the market is not. I guess it
depends on what you're buying though, but for example, would you buy domestic appliances
from a market? Imagine you had a problem with it and never saw the person who sold it to you
again. Shops don't depend on the weather either, I mean if it was raining I definitely wouldn't go
strolling round a market looking for things to buy. With a shop, that's not really a problem. I
suppose you usually get a better selection of goods in a shop as well, because they can carry
more stock.
2. How does advertising influence what people choose to buy? Is this true for everyone?
I think advertising only influences a certain group of people, normally younger people who are
easily influenced. Older people don't seem to find advertising as interesting. They seem to buy
things based on their needs rather than some smart and catchy marketing campaign. The big
brand names are expert at trying to influence young people with their slick advertisements and
publicity and they are always trying to convince us that we need to have the newest and latest of
everything, even if the item we have at the moment is perfectly good. But that's the economy
now isn't it? If we stop consuming, we will have serious economic problems.
3. Do you think that any recent changes in the way people live have affected general shopping
habits? Why is this?
Absolutely, this generation and the internet is changing the game totally. Almost half the
population in this country have a smartphone or other mobile device now and most of them buy
things on the internet. We can already see the decline of business in the high street in many cities.
Lots of small shops have already gone out of business and even some large chain stores that
couldn't compete with online shopping.
Tng hp by Heo admin page LUYN NGHE TING ANH
Source from pages: LUYN SPEAKING IELTS v RELIABLE ENGLISH SCHOOL
It was the same some years ago when we first started to see the development of out-of-town
hypermarkets, and now they are beginning to suffer too thanks to the amount of online shopping.
Let's face it, most people are quire lazy. If you give them options they'll usually choose the one
which means not having to leave the house or get in the car and travel - that's the internet. It's
hard to beat it, and yes, it's changed shopping habits totally
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 1 - TELEPHONING]
1. How often do you make telephone calls? [Why/Why not?]
To be honest, it's not very often, maybe once or twice a month. I usually text people more than
actually call people on the phone. Really, the only person I still call is my grandmother but like I
said, it's only a couple of times a month that we speak.
2. Who do you spend most time talking to on the telephone? [Why?]
My grandmother, we don't talk that often but when I do call her we normally speak for at least
half an hour and more often than not it's longer than that. I used to live close to her, but since I
moved here I can't visit her as often so when I call her I like to hear all her news and she always
asks me about what I've been doing.
3. When do you think youll next make a telephone call? [Why?]
I'll probably call my grandmother in the next couple of days so we can catch up with each other.
I spoke to her early last week but I'd like to call her soon and find out how she is and what she's
been doing. maybe I'll call her on Friday afternoon when I have some free time so we can have a
really long chat.
4. Do you sometimes prefer to send a text message instead of telephoning? [Why/Why not?]
Yes, almost always. Texting is much easier and quicker and people can't listen to your
conversations. As I said before, my grandmother is really the only person I call because she likes
it, but I generally text everyone else... it's so much better, you can choose when you send each
text, you can do things in-between texting and if the other person is busy for a few minutes they
can text back later but the conversation still continues, it's more conveninent than calling.
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 2 - REASONS FOR DAILY TRAVEL]
1. Why do people need to travel every day?
Well, I suppose the main reasons are to go to work, school or university so they can attend their
jobs, classes or whatever they need to do. They may need to simply tavel to their office and then
stay there all day, or maybe they need to travel as part of their work, visiting customers or clients
or fly to another city for an important meeting.
2. What problems can people have when they are on their daily journey to work or school for
example? Why is this?
I suppose one of the most common ones would be traffic jams, which can sometimes be very bad
at peak hours when everybody is trying to travel at the same time. Or maybe they miss the bus or
train because they were a little late - and then have to wait for the next bus or train but arrive late
at work or wherever they needed to go. Then of course they could be involved in a traffic
accident, especially if they're driving, and that can cause a lot of problems for them.
3. Some people say that daily journeys like these will not be so common in the future. Do you
agree or disagree? Why?
That's probably true, I mean more and more people are working from home now or even working
on projects in different countries using technology and so they don't need to physically travel to
an office to do their work. It would certainly make traffic less of a problem in big cities if more
people could do that. Another factor which could reduce the necessity for these daily trips is the
Tng hp by Heo admin page LUYN NGHE TING ANH

fact that many universities are now offering their courses online so students don't have to travel
to the campus every day... and it's highly probable that more work will be done in the future
without the need for employees to be sitting in a company office.
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 2]
Talk about a place where you stayed away from home. Please say:
Where was this place?
Why did you go there?
How long did you stay there?
How did you feel staying away from home?
I remember a few years ago when I was on vacation from university I went to stay with my
grandmother in Livorno on the coast. I spent two months there, helping her with some work
around the house and also writing my thesis for university.
She has a very old house near the coast and it has an amazing view of the sea. It was completely
different from living in Rome, where I grew up as a child. The air is cleaner and the town is
much smaller and quieter so it was a very nice change of pace to live there for the summer. I had
visited several times before when I was a child but had never stayed more than a day or so and I
had always gone with my parents before this time I went by myself so it was quite different.
It was a really nice time and its also a really good place to live. It was very relaxing and
refreshing to see something different and to meet some of the local people who are quite
different from the people I usually hang out with in Rome. If I wasnt working in the bank and
living in Rome I would maybe like to live in a place like that where life is slower and more
relaxed, somewhere out of the city, but at the moment Im concentrating on my career so the city
has the best opportunities.
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 3 - ADVERTISING]
1. Do you think advertising influences what people buy?
Yes, definitely. If there were no advertising and you went to a shop, then you would just buy
what you wanted based on maybe what others have told you, what the product looks like, or,
depending on the product, what it says on the label. Advertising builds up a brand and people
then trust a certain thing because they have seen it on television or elsewhere. Also, there is so
much advertising around it must influence us. You cant escape it as it is fed to us constantly in
our daily lives not only in magazines, radio and television, but on billboards, on TVs installed
on trains and platforms, even in schools and universities. So yes, advertising influences what we
buy.
2. Do advertisements give correct information, or do they encourage people to buy things that
they may not need?
I think some do and some dont, but its difficult to know which are giving us the correct
information. For example, the skin whitening products I do not believe that these work but we
see them everywhere in Asian countries, and we are encouraged to buy them even though they
are not actually necessary. The adverts, though, tell us they are necessary as they will improve
our lives and we will become more accepted and successful. This then, is an example of
advertising encouraging people to buy something they do not need. I do think there are checks in
most countries these days to make sure that adverts are giving the correct information and not
lying to people, but I think it is still easy for advertisers to exaggerate or to do this without
breaking the regulations.
3. Is advertising really necessary in modern society?
Tng hp by Heo admin page LUYN NGHE TING ANH
Source from pages: LUYN SPEAKING IELTS v RELIABLE ENGLISH SCHOOL
It could be seen to be necessary in terms of the fact that, as I mentioned before, there is so much
choice that we need someone to guide us in what to buy or to give us some extra information
about products. Without this, it would be difficult to know where to start. However, that said,
Im not sure that I would regard it as necessary as overall I think it may do more harm than
good. As we just discussed, advertising encourages people to buy things they possibly do not
need. We live in a consumer society and many people are in debt because we are encouraged to
buy and buy, and Im sure advertising plays a major role in this. Without advertising we could
just do our own research and decide what we really need. So no, I would not say that advertising
in necessary in modern society.

optimize space and their impact on the environment as well as provide a comfortable place for
people to live.
4. What are the differences in sizes of houses? Why?
In general, I believe that houses today are smaller than houses which were built centuries ago.
We also tend to build more apartments in cities than houses in the country so the size is quite
different from before. Even large houses nowadays take up less space than a large house
centuries ago.
5. Do you prefer a big or a small house? Why?
I like to have space, but it doesnt need to be an extremely big house. I live in an apartment here
in Melbourne at the moment and its really nice. I share with two other students and we each
have our own room, theres a kitchen and two bathrooms, a living area, a utility room and a
balcony with a nice view. Really, thats big enough for me. I wouldnt want to live in a really big
house, even if I could afford to buy one but I wouldnt want to live in a really small house
either. Like I said, I prefer some space I dont like feeling cramped.
[IELTS SPEAKING - PART 3]
1. Are lawyers respected in your country? [Why? / Why not?]
Yes, it's a good profession and they are resonably well paid if they work for a good comapny. I
think they are respected because they have to study and prepare a lot, similar to doctors.
2. In your opinion is it fair that lawyers are paid very well?
Firstly, not all lawyers are paid very well. Like in most countries, lawyers who work in public
service for the government don't earn very big salaries, well, not as much as a lawyer working
for an international company or a tax lawyer for example. Is it fair? I think that if the labor
market decides that a lawyer should earn a lot becasue of the type of work they do or because
they have a lot of responsibility then that is ok. I mean it's like a soccer player or film star - why
do they earn so much money - because the soccer club or the film company decide that they are
worth it or maybe they have skills or knowledge that only a few people possess - which make
them rare.
3. Do you think that being a policeman is a good career choice? What are some of the advantages
or disadvantages of this profession?
It's a good choice if you want to develop a career in the long term. There is a lot of structure and
opportunities within the police. You cal also learn skills that are transferrable to civilian jobs in
the future. I have a cousin who is in the police and he loves it. He says the pay is good and the
benefits and pension after many years of service are better than in many ordinary jobs.
4. Do you agree that all policemen should have guns?
I'm not sure. I think it depends on where they are and what their responsibilities are. For the
police here it's normal, but there are some countries where they don't have all police officers
armed. They have special armed squads for when it's necessary. But some countries have less
armed attacks or violence than others so I think whether or not the police are armed is based on
the local circumstances. I think they should be armed if it's likely they will need to deal with
armed criminals or violent situations. [IELTS SPEAKING - PART 2]
