Q1. (A) What is boiler blow down and if maximum permissible
limit of TDS as in a package boiler is 3000ppm, percentage make
up water is 10% and TDS in feed water is 300ppm, then find
percentage of blow down and what is blow down rate for
evaporation rate of 3000kg/hr.
(B) How furnaces are classified and also define a recuperator?

(B) Explain properties of Refractories (any five)?
Q3. (A) Describe compressed air system components?
(B) A compressor draws 42.5m3 of air per minute into the
cylinder at a pressure of 1.05bar.It is compressed polytropically
(PV1.3=C) to a pressure of 4.2 bar. Assuming a mechanical
efficiency of 80%, find Indicated power, shaft power and overall
isothermal efficiency.
