Welcome to Lyons Creek Middle School and to the sixth grade! To become academically successful, there are some
general guidelines to follow throughout the year. Your knowledge of our school and expectations are vital in the
success of your childs education. Below you will find important information. Please keep it in a safe place for future
reference.
Course Description
Develop an understanding of and fluency with multiplication and division of fractions and decimals, data analysis,
fractions, decimals and percents, write and interpret mathematical expressions and equations and use formulas to
solve geometry problems.
Overview of year-(Subject to change based on student mastery)
Review of 5th grade material - estimating, place value, divisibility rules, adding/subtracting decimals/fractions
Numbers/Number Operations
Ratios & Proportional Relationships
Equivalent Expressions
Equations and Inequalities
Geometry
Measurement and Data
All standards within units will be frequently assessed to monitor mastery and practice homework will be given daily except
Fridays.
Course Objective
Students will be developed into thinkers and problem solvers by building on skills learned at the elementary level.
(Students are expected to have mastered basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts in order to be
prepared for new material.)

1. 2 Spiral notebooks (1 per quarter)
2. Pencils (mechanical is highly suggested)

4. 1 4-pack of black dry erase markers

Classroom Expectations
1. Raise your hand and wait to be recognized.
2. Listen silently while the teacher is speaking.
3. Request permission before getting out of your seat.
4. Come to class prepared.
5. Keep hands, feet, objects and inappropriate comments to yourself.
6. Be respectful.
7. No cellphones or other electronics during class time.
We believe our school should be a place where teachers can teach and students can learn. We will not tolerate any behavior
that interferes with this. All directions are to be followed immediately.
Attendance Policy

School begins promptly at 9:30am. Students are expected to be on time for each class. If it is necessary for a student to
be absent, please notify the attendance office at 754-322-3702. It is the STUDENTS responsibility to request make up
work and complete the assignments within the allotted time frame of 2 days for each absence.
Grading Policy
Tests 35% of overall grade
Homework/Classwork 30% of overall grade
Quizzes 25% of overall grade
Academic Participation/Logs 10% of overall grade
**Late work policy Assignments are to be completed on time. A late assignment will be accepted with a drop of a
letter grade for everyday it is late. (Not to exceed 4 days late or will result in a ZERO)**
