Simple Present Tense

How do we use the Simple Present Tense?
We use the simple present tense when:
1. The action happens all the time, or habitually, in the past,
present and future, the action is not only happening now
(Actions which happen regularly every day, every week, etc.)
Example:
Santos always talks about his family.
("Always" means this is a habit. )
Young-Mi goes to class every day.
("Every day" is a habit. )
Martin likes chocolate.
(When we like something, usually we will always like it.)

INGLS

There are three important exceptions:

1. For positive sentences, we do not normally use
the auxiliary.
2. For the 3rd person singular (he, she, it), we add s to
the main verb or es to the auxiliary.
3. For the verb to be, we do not use an auxiliary, even
for questions and negatives.

2. The statement is always true. (Things which do not

often change opinions, conditions, etc.)
Example:
Anna believes in God.
(Beliefs and opinions are states. They dont often
change.)

Rules:
With most verbs, the third person singular form is created
simply by adding -S. However, with some verbs, you need
to add -ES or change the ending a little. Here are the
rules:

often come between the first part and the second part

The present continuous tense is used for two main types
of action:
A temporary action happening now
Something which is going on right now (but it will stop in
the future).
A definite plan for the future
Something we intend to do, usually in the near future.
