LIVERPOOL UNIVERSITY DENTAL SCHOOL SOCIETY

or more simply known as LUDSS is a society run entirely by students for students!
Dating back to 1907, LUDSS is now celebrating its 110th year of success in providing our students with
numerous opportunities. With an ever growing membership base of over 200 students, the society
continues to build on previous success. However, not only does LUDSS have a strong student base, it
also has close ties to faculty members to provide opportunities for all.

LUDSS is a student body, which aims to build a foundation between the dental students and the staff at
the School of Dentistry. Our priority is to provide students with a platform to raise opinions and
concerns, no matter how big or small. However, not only do we give students a voice, we also promote
a large number of social, sporting and educational events. Even with our hectic timetable, we create a
calendar filled with a variety of events to appeal to all members of the society!

Contact with over 600 students as well as alumni and staff via numerous social media sites and email
LUDSS presence at the annual Alumni dinner which is attended by Liverpool graduates from the from
the past 25 years and more. LUDSS also runs sporting and social events for more recent Liverpool
graduates of the past 10 years.
LUDSS continues its tradition of promoting some of the best events around! The most prestigious
being the Annual Dental Ball, which is attended by over 200 students and senior staff, including the
Dean of Liverpool Dental School. With over 15 events annually, there is a large platform to promote
your ideas.
2016 saw Liverpool Dental School host the BDSA Conference for the first time (ever)! This saw
hundreds of students descend upon Liverpool for a three-day jam packed timetable of lectures and
events! Following its success and the very positive feedback we have received from both students and
sponsors of this event, we will be looking to continue our success with your help!

LUDSS relies purely on membership fees and sponsorship for income. The generosity of sponsors enables us to continue our
traditions each year. This allows us to continue to provide the best opportunities for our members, whilst providing our sponsors

Life following graduation often leaves students not knowing where best to invest their hard earned money. Therefore, establishing
an early relationship with these students will create a mutually beneficial relationship.

Our trade fair is attended by both students and staff of the dental school. This gives a great
opportunity to showcase your products and services to a variety of people, from students to
qualified professionals. We sell tickets for our prestigious Annual Dental ball at this fair to guarantee
maximum attendance at the Trade Fair.

The academic pack gives a great opportunity for you to promote your company on all revision material provided by
LUDSS. We also have close ties to the Liverpool Undergraduate Networking Association(LUNA), which organises a
series of lectures by guest speakers for all students of the dental school.

LUDSS promotes one of the busiest social calendars in the University of Liverpool. We kick start our
academic year with weekly events throughout September to introduce our new students to the society
and to older members of the dental school. September culminates in our mentor-mentee meal and
social, where the 1st BDS students meet their 2nd and 3rd BDS mentors. This is followed by a social with all
members of the dental school, and always involves some interesting fancy dress! Following this we have
numerous other socials from mystery bus tour to the Christmas meal!

The most popular and most prestigious events in the LUDSS calendar include the Annual Ball and the Finals dinner,
both of which are eagerly anticipated by students each year and are the real pinnacle of the dental year. This
package gives the biggest stage of all for you to promote your company.
The annual ball is attended by over 200 students and senior members of staff, including the Dean. This year we plan
to make it even bigger, inviting more staff and alumni members! Previous venues include the Liverpool Metropolitan
Cathedral, the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and the Palm House, so it really is a night to remember! The Finals
dinner is attended by all final year students as well as staff. It is a brilliant night to celebrate the success of our
students and the end of an era!

Freshers events
Every September we welcome 75 new BDS
students to the dental school. With these
students eager to get involved, we host a mix
of events to introduce them to the Dental
School. Also this year we will be including the
intake of 20 DH/DT students to all of our
events, particularly freshers events!
Annual Dental Ball
The most prestigious event, not only in the
Dental school calendar, but in the Liverpool
University calendar!
Revision sessions
Mainly aimed at 2nd BDS, as this is a big year for
introduction to clinical practice. However, to be
rolled out to all students in 2017. Not only do we
have revision sessions, but also guest speakers, as
well as community visits to local schools.

Christmas Meal
Every Christmas we bring the whole of the
dental school together to celebrate the end
of a long term! This is such a great event,
with over 180+ students attending!
Halfway meal
A meal for 3rd BDS students to celebrate the mid
point of the course and two and a half years of
studying! A big date in the Dental school diary.
This is just a sneak peak at the numerous events
we have to offer, all of which can be a platform
for advertising your business! We really do aim to
have something for everybody, whether that be
sports, socials or revision sessions!

All contributions to LUDSS will be handled by LUDSS student treasurers and audited by staff. Funds will go
straight back into the society to help us finance our events and projects. These are a vital part of the society
to help develop and progress key skills required as a dental student.
In the next year, LUDSS is going to embark on new projects in order to benefit the students of the Dental
school. However, these can also be mutually beneficial for students and businesses. We plan on making
major updates to our website to make it more user friendly, and also include DH/DT students in more of our
events. So very exciting times ahead for LUDSS!
