The commissioning has to

document that the all protection terminals work correctly in accordance with
the requirements
prove that the hardware has no defects
show that the settings have been made correctly
acknowledge the engineering work
be as short as possible
consist of simple, standardized and logical tests
interrupt the operation as little as possible (in the event of extensions)
The commissioning can

and shall neither replace nor complement the type test

possibly be simplified by a factory test (for example in the case of
several equal stations )

Visual check of the external wiring

Are cables / cores crushed ?
Has the core insulation been crushed under the connecting terminals or
has too much of the insulation been removed?
Have the terminal screws been tightened correctly?
Have the directions for the customer wiring been observed? (see
Operating Instructions, Chapter 7.2 & 7.4)
Is the external c.t. wiring screened?

Check of the cubicle- and device grounding

Recording the magnetizing characteristic

Control measurement to establish

whether it is a protection- or measuring
core.
Normally the protection core has a
higher knee-point voltage. (Depends on
the power, transformation, rated current)
Definition of the knee-point UK:
An alteration of the voltage by 10% results in a current
change of 50%. When measuring the magnetizing
characteristic, start with a high voltage and subsequently
move down.

Check of the transformer circuit grounding

Each d.c. isolated current circuit must (may only) be grounded in one
place.
Recommendation: Grounding as close to the transformer as possible but
on a location also easily accessible during operation.

Check of the mounting location

The c.ts must be mounted and connected such that dead zones are
avoided.
The protection zones of the busbar and line must be overlapped.

Check of the breaker back-up protection

Does each switching command of a protection scheme emit a starting

command to the breaker back-up protection scheme?
Examples:
- Line feeder: Busbar protection, distance protection, overtemperature
protection, DTT (Tripping command from the opposite station) ....
- Transformer feeder: Busbar protection, transformer differential
protection, Buchholz, Oil- and winding temperature protection, tripping
commands of the other voltage level....

Check of the input signals and alarm circuits

The input signals can be checked in the window Binary input/output

state or in the event list
The condition of the output relays can be altered in the window Binary
input/output state provided that the test generator has been activated )
Are all external relay coils provided with free-wheeling diodes?
Functional checks are to be performed whenever possible and no
simulations!

Checking the tripping circuits

Is the circuit breaker only controlled by the relay specified as tripping

relay in the Data Sheet?
In the case of tripping via auxiliary relays, these have to be equipped
with free-wheeling diodes (or possibly with VDRs).

Stability check

A stability check must always be performed with all feeders and

couplers included
The test is to be performed by primary injection with a high-current
source or with operating currents with sufficient power
The test may be performed in the window Measurands per protection
zone .
Are the c.ts of the coupler overlapped? (see Operating Instructions,
Sect. 3.3.4)!
