are largely constituted by, complexly interwoven social and physical
environments. All parts of an environment are connected, interrelated, and
dependent upon each other. This dense, interrelated network of mutually
dependent living beings is called ecology

Top 12: China
Geographical Setting:
Located in Southeast Asia along the coastline of the Pacific Ocean, China
is the world's third largest country, after Russia and Canada. With an area
of 9.6 million square kilometers and a coastline of 18,000 kilometers, its
shape on the map is like a rooster.
China is bordered by 14 countries -- Korea, Vietnam, Laos, Burma, India,
Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakstan,
Mongolia, and Russia. Marine-side neighbors include eight countries -North Korea, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and
Vietnam.

China has often been touted as the next super power. Some say that it is
already a superpower. The nation has surprised the world with major
developments in the field of technology. Gunpowder and compass were
first used in China. Today it is focusing on fields like robotics,
semiconductors, high-speed trains, supercomputers, genetics and
automobiles. It is steadily expanding its exploration program.

Geographical Setting:
The Netherlands, officially called the Kingdom of the Netherlands, is
located in northwest Europe. The Netherlands borders the North Sea to
the north and west, Belgium to the south and Germany to the east.
The capital and largest city in the Netherlands is Amsterdam, while the
seat of government and therefore most government activity is in Hague. In
its entirety, the Netherlands is often called Holland, while its people are
referred to as Dutch. The Netherlands is known for its low lying
topography and dikes, as well as for its very liberal government.
High-tech companies in the Netherlands manufacture
telecommunication systems, computers, electronic measurement and
control equipment, medical and scientific instruments, and electric
switching gear and transformers. The nation has made significant strides
with inventions like compact disc, artificial kidney, pendulum clock,
telescope and microscope.

Geographical Setting:
The Republic of Singapore situated at the southernmost tip of the
Peninsular Malaysia lies to the north of the equator.
The main city area of Singapore is nestled along the shores of the
Singapore River and the entire nation is filled with high-density areas.
Singapore covers an area of 699 sq. Km and is considered to be one of
the most beautiful nations of the world.
Like most of Southeast Asia, Singapore is generally hot and humid. It's
warm and humid year round, Many of the city's attractions are clustered
closely together. Orchard Road, the shoppers' haven, is located in the
northern part of the city center. Chinatown, where you'll find Boat Quay, is
just to the southeast of Orchard Road, while Little India is northeast.
Sentosa Island, with its many amusements, is directly to the southwest of
the city center.
Singapore is a high-tech, business-friendly nation. It is a knowledgebased, innovation driven economy. The nation has fastest internet in the
world. The home internet speed is up to 1 Gbps. All the citizens of
Singapore own a smartphone. The nation is well-known for its high-tech
infrastructure.

Geographical Setting:
Canada is the second largest country on earth, covering an area of 10 million
square kilometers (3.9 million square miles). Three oceans border Canada: the
Pacific Ocean in the west, the Atlantic Ocean in the east, and the Arctic Ocean to
the north. Altogether, Canada has over 200,000 kilometers (125,000 miles) of
coastline. Canada shares two borders with the United States: a very long border
in the south and another long frontier in the northwest.
Due to its large size, Canada has many different types of landscape.
There are areas with high mountains, different types of forests, prairie
grasslands and arctic tundra where the ground is permanently frozen.
Canada is also home to many rivers and lakes. Like Canadas
landscapes, the climate varies across the country. In the areas where
most of the population lives, there are generally four distinct seasons
summer, fall, winter and spring.
Canada has a highly developed technology sector. The Government of Canada
encourages industrial research. The nation specializes in biotechnology and
space exploration. It allocated 1.8 percent of its GDP for R&D. Canada launched
The Science, Technology and Innovation Council in an endeavor to enhance the
quality of life of its citizens through science and technology. Canada introduced
the wireless interact machines, chip less credit and debit cards and the advanced
supersonic twin-engine, Avro Arrow.

Geographical Setting:
The United Kingdom is located in Western Europe to the northwest of
France and between the North Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea (map).
Its capital and largest city is London, but other large cities are Glasgow,
Birmingham, Liverpool and Edinburgh.
The UK has a total area of 94,058 square miles (243,610 sq km). Much of
the topography of the UK consists of rugged, undeveloped hills and low
mountains but there are flat and gently rolling plains in the eastern and
southeastern areas of the country. The climate of the UK is considered
temperate despite its latitude. However the UK is known for being very
cloudy and rainy throughout much of the year. The western parts of the
country are wettest and also windy, while the eastern portions are drier
and less windy.
The United Kingdom is the worlds first industrialized nation. It is credited with the
discovery of hydrogen. Jet engine, locomotive engine, World Wide Web, electric
motor, incandescent light bulb and commercial electrical telegraph were invented
in the UK. Britains recent technologies include the Unmanned Combat Air
Vehicle, BAE Systems Taranis.
Top 7: Finland
Geographical Setting:

The history and politics of Finland has been shaped by its location, wedged
between Sweden to the west, Norway to the north and Russia to the east.
Finland only really deserves its frosty reputation in winter, from November to mid
March, when temperatures drop to -20C/-4F or lower.
Most of the national forests are managed for timber, which is used for the
manufacture of furniture, paper and fiber boards and for domestic heating
and warming Finland's 1.6 million saunas. Finland's forests are said to be
the most sustainably managed in Europe. Only 8% of the land is used for
agriculture - more than 50% of Finns work in manufacturing or the service
sector.
Finland is well-known for high-tech projects and healthcare facilities. It gave birth
to Nokia, which was a world leader in mobile communications for many years.
Now-a-days the nation is focusing on biosciences, energy and environmental
science.
Top 6: Russia
Geographical Setting:
As the world's largest country, Russian has a very diverse geography.
Northern Russian extends into the Arctic Circle. This area is primarily tundra and
forests, with thousands of lakes.
Russia has many mountain areas. The Ural mountains cover 2,500 miles of
eastern Russia.
From the western boarder to the Ural mountains is the North European
Plain. This is a large rolling plain with rich soil and grasslands.
Three quarters of the Russian population lives in the cities and towns of
western Russia.
About 25% of the population still live in rural areas.
The Russians launched the first human-made object (Soviet Unions Luna 2) to
reach the surface of the Moon. Apart from space technology, Russia is rightly
called the Big Daddy in the field of heavy machinery. It has one of the best hightech defense system. It exports defense equipment to many nations in the world.
Russias S300, S400, S500 and ICBM long range surface-to-air missile systems
are very efficient than any other in the world.

Geographical Setting:
Germany is a country in west-central Europe, that stretches from the Alps,
across the North European Plain to the North Sea and the Baltic Sea.
At the southern end of Germany are the Alps, the highest mountain range
in Europe. In central Germany are the Harz mountains.
Germany also has many rolling plains which make good farm land.
The Rhine River, in the western part of Germany, is a main waterway for
transporting goods from northern ports.
The Bavarian Alps, the highest mountains in Germany stretch across its
southern border with Austria.

Geographical Setting:
Israel is located in Southwest Asia between the Mediterranean sea. It is
bordered by Egypt on the west, Syria and Jordan on the east, and
Lebanon on the north. Its maritime plain is extremely fertile. The southern
Negev region, which comprises almost half the total area, is largely a
desert.
The Jordan, the only important river, flows from the north through Lake
Hule and Lake Kinneret (also called Sea of Galilee), finally entering the
Dead Sea 1,349 ft (411 m) below sea levelthe world's lowest land
elevation.
Although small in territory, Israel's landscape and climate are varied, and
its dense population does not interfere with a wealth of plants and wildlife,
as well as many natural attractions.

the defense industry. Israel developed the first unmanned aerial vehicle
(UAV) with real-time surveillance. This amazing nation is among the few
nations in the world that have modern electric car infrastructure. You will
find a well-maintained network of recharging stations all over Israel.

Geographical Setting:
South Korea occupies the southern portion of the Korean Peninsula,
which extends some (1,100 km) from the Asian mainland. This mountainous
peninsula is flanked by the Yellow Sea to the west, and the Sea of Japan
(East Sea) to the east. Its southern tip lies on the Korea Strait and the
East China Sea. The country's total area is 38,462.49 square miles or
99,617.38
square kilometers.
South Korea can be divided into four general regions: an eastern region of
high mountain ranges and narrow coastal plains; a western region of
broad coastal plains, river basins, and rolling hills; a southwestern region
of mountains and valleys; and a southeastern region dominated by the
broad basin of the Nakdong River.
South Korea is the birthplace of technology companies like LG, Hyundai and
Samsung. These brands are competing with global technology brands like Apple
and Toyota. South Korean scientists have made significant contributions in fields
like robotics. The average internet speed in South Korea is thrice that in the US.

Geographical Setting:

Japan, located off the East coast of Asia, is an archipelago nation


comprised of four main islands, from North to South: Hokkaido, Honshu
(the largest and most populous), Kyushu, Shikoku, and over 3500 smaller
islands. The southernmost reach is the Ryukyu Islands. Japan stretches
over 2,360 miles, so the people enjoy climatic variety.
The Japanese people define their country as a small, resource-poor
island country. Japan has inferior coal seams, little iron ore, and nonexistent petroleum resources; it is reliant on imports, and on hydroelectric
and nuclear energy production.
Japan is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, and has 186 volcanoes, Japan
is seismically active; many of its great cities are built on fault lines. Tokyo
and Yokohama were largely destroyed by fires resulting from the great
Earthquake of 1923 which took 130,000 lives. The city of Kobe
experienced a devastating earthquake in 1995.
Japan is well-known for its scientific research. Research scientists of Japan have
made immense contributions in various fields like automobiles, electronics,
machinery, earthquake engineering, industrial robotics, metals and semiconductors. The nation has been looking to become less dependent on imported
fuel since 1973. Its efforts bore fruit in 2008, when it inaugurated seven nuclear
reactors. Nuclear reactors supply around 34 percent of the nations electricity.
