CENMS Vex Robotics Club Information

Greetings Potential Robotics Team member!

CENMs Robotics Club is looking to add teams to our club and expand our horizons. It
is important to take the application process seriously as there will be many
applicants and only a limited number can be accepted. In addition to the attached
documents there will be a required robotics fee of $30 that will help cover team
registration along with competition registration.
Members will be chosen according to a variety of criteria, including the application
itself as well as academic success, and student conduct. I am looking forward to
having a great year and continued success with our robotics teams!
The clubs goal is to design and build a robot to compete in the VEX Starstruck
competition using VEX robotics parts. Due to the complexity of the robots
themselves, students will need to meet after school on Mondays in room 4-111
from 2:50 - 5:00. Pick up will be at the parent pick up location in front of the school.
As the club progresses, the day and time may change depending on the needs of
the club. Notice of any changes will be distributed at least a week prior to the
change.
Robotics club will be competing in one VEX Starstruck competition in the spring. The
date and location will be determined and distributed within the next several
months. Starstruck rules and competition guidelines will be available on the
Robotics Club webpage.

FAQ
1. When do the robotics teams meet? Teams will meet after school. Days and
times will be set by the coach and will be determined when teams are
formed. Usually teams will meet 1 day per week for 2 hours. These times will vary
with competition schedules. These meetings are mandatory and excessive absences
will result in a dismissal from Robotics Club.
2. How many students are on a team? Teams can vary in size; however, the
optimal size for a team is 4 - 6 members. This decision is made by the coach.
3. How are teams determined? Teams are typically grouped by grade level.
Teams will be mixed boys and girls. I am hoping to have a total of 6 teams. There
are many factors that will determine the number of teams.
4. Will my student get to compete in all of the competitions? It will be
unlikely that your student will participate in every competition. Teams will be chosen
to attend competitions based on several factors, including, but not limited to, entry
fees and team preparedness. There will be every effort made to ensure that each
student is given an opportunity to participate in at least one competition. Students
not competing in a particular competition are welcome to attend the competition to
cheer on their classmates!
5. When are the competitions? Competitions are on SATURDAYS. Competitions
will run generally from September to April. All of these competitions are OUT OF

TOWN. It is the responsibility of the parents to make arrangements to have their

students at the competition on time, in appropriate dress and ready to participate.
