Course Description
This workbook contains information on creating a single line diagram within Bentley Substation.

Drawing Wires
In this section, we will show the basics of how to draw wires in Bentley Substation.
1. In the data set project Substation IEC Tutorial open the page, 1-Line Diagram-Substation-Site-1.
2. In the Design task select the Draw Wire command R+1.
3. Define the starting point of the line segment with a left click, on the right side of the drawing page between the column numbers 6 and 7 at
the top of the drawing page.
4. Draw a vertical line to the bottom of the drawing page, approximately the same length as the vertical line on the left side of the page. Left
click to set the end point of the line, then right click to end the segment.
5. Start a new line segment on the horizontal line segment on the left side of the drawing page then draw the line segment to the right
stopping on top of the vertical line segment drawn in step 4.
Note: Ensure the new line segment overlaps the existing line segment.
1. Remaining on the same drawing page as the previous exercise, open the Insert Symbol by Name dialog located in the Design task with
the keyboard short cut E+3.
2. In the Insert Symbol by Name dialog search for and locate the symbol with the name TDR1SDE.
3. Place the symbol at the bottom of the left wire on the drawing page.
4. After the symbol is placed the Device Properties dialog will appear. The Installation and Location fields are set correctly, from the field on
the drawing page.The Device Tag is generated based upon the format set in the Project Options dialog, for this exercise the default value
of T1 will work.
5. Press OK to close the Device Properties dialog and open the Symbol Text dialog.
6. In the Symbol Text dialog enter 40 MVA in the VA filed, leaving the default value in the Voltage column and press OK to close the Symbol
Text dialog.
7. Right click to dismiss the second copy of the symbol hanging on the mouse cursor.
8. Remain on the drawing page for the next exercise.
1. Remaining on the same drawing page as the previous exercise, right click on transformer symbol placed during the previous exercise.
2. In the pop-up menu, select Part Number to open the Select Part Number dialog.
3. Double click on the part number 3D TRF in the top half of the dialog to assign the part number.
Note: if the part number does not appear in the lower half of the dialog, it has not been assigned.
6. Place the symbol above the branch to the left, but below the CT.
7. In the Device Properties dialog set the Device ID as shown:
Installation: LINE 1
Location: SITE
Device Tag: 11V32
8. Remaining in the Device Properties dialog, press the Part Number Search button to open the Select Part Number dialog.
9. Assign the part number: 3D CB and then press OK twice to exit the dialogs and return to the drawing page.
Hint: Notice when the Main part number 3D CB is assigned, an accessory kit is assigned automatically.
10. Right click to dismiss the extra copy of the symbol on the mouse cursor.
11. Remain on the same drawing page for the next exercise.
