CHOOL SPIRIT!

WE ARE THE DONS OF NOTRE DAME!

Taken from the Spanish word for gentleman, a Don of Notre Dame is a Gentleman of Mary. He is committed
to faith, scholarship, and service. He is committed to personal excellence, integrity, and justice.
Notre Dame College Prep | www.nddons.org | 847.779.8615 | facebook.com/NotreDameCollegePrep | @NDCP_Enrollment

After nine years under lay leadership, Notre Dame College

Prep returned to sponsorship by a religious order and
became affiliated with the Brothers of the Congregation
of Holy Cross on August 31, 2015. This affiliation
strengthens Notre Dames never-ending devotion to

educating the mind as well as the heart

as the Brothers of the Congregation of Holy Cross are

committed to educational ministries. In each of the seventeen high schools and two
institutions of higher learning, the Brothers strive for academic excellence and ensure
that the Holy Cross charism is present and alive within each of their schools. Being
part of this vibrant network enhances Notre Dame as the connections and access to
various resources are abundant. This make us stronger.
Notre Dame College Prep is committed to the tradition of the Congregation of Holy
Cross and considers the three pillars of education to be Faith, Scholarship and Service.
In each area, students are called upon to do their best to develop the talents
they have been given. In addition to our foundational pillars, there are nine
core values which articulate the principles of a Holy Cross Education.
Being a member of the NDCP community, a Holy Cross School, is very
special. It means that you are a part of a brotherhood and sisterhood of
schools across the country and around the world. It means that you will
immediately recognize another Holy Cross student as a friend -- even though
you may not have met. It means that how you learn is at least as
important as what you learn. It means that you will be there
to help someone who stumbles, and it means that someone
will be there to help you when you stumble. It means that
you will never feel alone and that you will never let someone
feel alone. It means that you will be prepared for college.

More importantly, it means that you will be prepared for life.

The mind will not be cultivated at the

expense of the heart

FAITH, SCHOLARSHIP, SERVICE.

As part of our commitment to forming
men of faith and service, students attend
monthly mass, study the Catholic faith in
the classroom, experience the sacraments of
Eucharist and Reconciliation, make an
annual retreat, and serve the local
community. Our four-year retreat
program is designed to help our students
develop a mature faith that can augment a
solid academic foundation with a real
desire to deepen ones relationship with God.
During Kairos, the culminating four-day
faith experience for our senior Dons,
young men discover how God is present
and working in their lives, especially
among family, friends, and others with
whom they interact on a daily basis.
They learn the importance of sharing
their gifts with others and becoming
leaders in their faith.

MISSION
Under the patronage of Mary, Notre Dame College Prep is a secondary school committed to educating young men
to be gentlemen of faith, scholarship, and service in an inclusive, family-oriented community. Faithful to the Roman
Catholic tradition and inspired by Gospel values, we prepare students to be lifelong learners and to lead lives of integrity.
OWNERSHIP
Ownership of Notre Dame College Prep now rests in an independent Board comprised of Notre Dame alumni,
parents, educators, and Catholic leaders from the larger community of the Archdiocese of Chicago.
LIFE PREP
Notre Dame partners with each student and his family to provide a challenging college preparatory academic
program. Our goal is to prepare each Notre Dame man for academic success in college. We are equally committed
to preparing each student in his spiritual life, in his moral life, and in his social life.
PERSONAL GROWTH PLAN
Each student is assigned a counselor who will work with him throughout his Notre Dame experience. Counselors
support students by assisting them in managing a variety of development issues that arise during adolescence.
Students enhance their self-understanding and learn effective problem-solving skills. We provide the following
services: Academic Planning/Support, Personal/Social Support, Career Advising, and College Counseling.
COLLEGE PLANNING
The College and Career Center works with Notre Dame seniors and juniors on
their transition to college. Counselors conduct senior and junior Insight Nights,
NCAA Eligibility Center Presentations, and Financial Aid Nights for
students and parents. Counselors also coordinate Notre Dame campus visits
for a wide variety of college representatives and athletic coaches, process college
and scholarship applications, and write college recommendation letters.

TRADITON MEETS TECHNOLOGY

In the tradition of the Congregation of Holy Cross, a Notre Dame College Prep
education promotes the development of the whole person. As the Congregations
founder, Blessed Basil Moreau, C.S.C. stated, The mind will not be cultivated at the
expense of the heart. We believe such an experience is critical, as society has a great need for
people who lead lives of intellectual curiosity, strong moral character, and social responsibility.
We further believe the quality of an education depends in large part on the quality of the people
engaged in this purpose. Consequently, Notre Dame educators are people of faith who motivate,
inspire, and lead our students toward academic excellence while fostering critical thinking, creativity,
and leadership.
Notre Dame is also committed to producing young men who have the knowledge and skills to be
successful in todays digital world. As technology continues to evolve, Notre Dame College
Prep is prepared to integrate new devices and pedagogues into the school environment.
The Media Production lab contains iMacs and production software suites.
Wireless Chromebooks in the library allow for mobility and collaboration.
The new Makerspace in the library gives students a place to create and
cooperate on projects for classes, clubs, or just for fun. Currently there are two
design computers with Auto Cad and 3D modeling software, a 3D pen and
a 3D printer. There is a Mac computer with iMovie, Garageband and photo
editing software. The Makerspace is also the home of the Vex Robotics Team.
Students are working on a robotic that will compete in the Vex Challenge.
All Notre Dame College Prep students use Apple iPads. The iPad provides a wide-range of
apps to allow them robust visual, audio, a sensory learning opportunities for expansion
of innovative ideas and easy use.
Whatever the future brings, Notre Dame College Prep is dedicated to providing
our students digital opportunities that prepare them to lead successful lives.

SCHOLARS PROGRAM

THE HESBURGH SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Named in honor of legendary University of Notre Dame
President Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C., this program is
designed to challenge the most gifted and motivated
student with a demanding course of studies. It not only
requires the development of the students abilities in all areas
of the academic curriculum, but also seeks to further his
overall development through involvement in various
service-oriented and extracurricular activities. Successful
completion of the Hesburgh Scholars Program results in a
special diploma of distinction. The average Hesburgh
Scholars ACT score is 32.5.

Students in the Notre Dame College Prep Scholars

Program are challenged with a curriculum
designed to meet criteria for any state college or
university. These students might also take some honor
courses and are pushed to meet high academic
expectations. Graduates from the Notre Dame College
Prep Scholars Program have gone on to numerous
selective colleges and universities. The average Notre
Dame College Prep ACT score is 24.

THE BURKE SCHOLARS PROGRAM

Named in honor of Saint Andre Bessette, C.S.C., this college

preparatory program is for students requiring assistance in
achieving academic success at Notre Dame. St. Andre Scholars
must exhibit consistent effort and a willing commitment
of time and energy to academic excellence. This transitional
program helps at-risk students adjust to the first two years
of high school and deal more effectively with the work and
expectations of their final two years at Notre Dame, while
preparing for the rigors of college. The program provides
one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction.

Notre Dame offers a curriculum for students with

mild to severe cognitive disabilities including those
with Down Syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome or other
learning differences. Notre Dame is the first Catholic
school in the state and one of twelve schools in the
country to offer such a program. The Burke Scholars
Program is named in honor of Illinois Supreme Court
Justice Anne Burke and her husband, Chicago
Alderman Edward Burke.

Notre Dame students volunteered

more than 20,000 hours of service
in 2015-2016.
As Gentlemen of Mary, Notre Dame students are called to be men of
faith, scholarship, and service. Each student is required to participate in
the Notre Dame Christian Service Program during his four years of
high school. All students must complete a minimum of 25 hours of
volunteer service per year during their first three years and 15
hours during their senior year. In true Notre Dame fashion, many
students go well beyond this requirement. Each Notre Dame
student will volunteer a minimum of 90 service hours during his four
years in high school.

Students can provide service at Notre Dame in a variety of ways. Students can
serve as Ambassadors and volunteer at athletic and community events or at
specific events organized by the Christian Service Office. They may also
provide service to their parish, elementary school, or local community by
coaching, tutoring, or participating in neighborhood clean-ups, etc.
In 2015-2016 Notre Dame students took part in a Summer Immersion
trip to Harlan, Kentucky where they built new homes for local residents.
