Bearing Wetting Procedure
These instructions are for wetting engine bearings during periods when engine is not in use for 60 days or
longer.
Care must be taken not to allow contamination of the lube oil
system prior to, during, or after completion of system flushing.
Cover all open piping connections to prevent entry of foreign
debris and objects.
Lubricating oil, MIL-L-23699, is toxic to skin, eyes, and
respiratory tract. Skin and eye protection is required. Avoid
repeated or prolonged contact. Use in well-ventilated area.

REQUIRED MATERIAL AND LUBRICANTS

The following consumable material and lubricants are needed to perform the bearing wetting procedure:

Adapter, Manual Drive-Borescope Drive

VG Hand Pump
Lubricating Oil, Gas Generator MIL-L-23699

Rust Preventative Concentrate GE SpecD50TF6 or Brayco 599

Standard Hand Tools
1. Procedure

The following procedure will provide guidance in the performance of wetting engine bearings:
A. Thoroughly mix Brayco 599 preservative with lube oil MIL-L-23699 to obtain a 5%
mixture of preservative to lube oil.
B. Pour Mixture into VG Hand Pump. Refer to Figure B.1

Note: Use a suitable container available to catch any lube oil which may have accumulated in
scavenge lines.
G. Ensure all leakage from drain plugs has stopped.
H. Attach manual drive adapter to crank shaft.
I.

Stroke pump 5 full strokes to back fill to check valve.

J.

While rotating engine at a rate of 10 rpm, stroke pump an additional 20 strokes to apply
approximately quart of oil to bearings.

K. Inspect scavenge line drain plugs for drainage. If no drainage occurs, stroke pump in five stroke
increments until drainage does occur from all drain plugs. This will ensure oil has passed over all
bearing assemblies.
L. Upon drainage from all lines stop pumping, disconnect pump, and reinstall drain plugs.
M. Safety lockwire drain plugs in place.
N. Reinstall threaded piping connection removed to attach VG Hand Pump.
O. Remove blanking plug from gearbox supply line and reattach supply piping fitting.
