Bitcoin Companies, What Do They Do?

Considering how many parts and pieces there are to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies
as a whole it is no surprise that there are companies that deal with almost every
facet.
Many of these companies have employees that want to see cryptos succeed, and
some companies have only these employees. Those companies are the most
dedicated and it often shows though great products and ideas. However
companies are trying to be profitable first and so most companies tend to work
towards economical and profitable business models.
There are a multitude of businesses in the Crypto space we will name a few that
you might encounter but it is by no means a complete list.

Companies
21.co - a secreative start up company with lots of talent and funding, they released
a bitcoin computer that integrates mining chips into computing hardware
Armory - a well liked desktop wallet which had developers were working towards
security tools for businesses before it shut down in 2016
Bitfinex - an online trading platform, that at one time had the highest daily volume.
They were blamed for a 2015 price drop and many users left
BitFury - Blockchain infrastructure provider, ASIC producer, and transaction
processing company

Companies
BitPay - initially a payment processor helping to accept btc as payment but stated
they were pivoting their business model towards helping banks create tools
Bitstamp - bitcoin exchange centered in the UK and created by CEO Nejc Kodri,
founded as an alternative to Mt. Gox
Blockstream - company that produced the sidechain white paper. Blockstream as
well as its investors and employees have been accused of malicious intentions
CoinDesk - A digital currency focused news website that has been accused of
pushed sponsored stories
Coinkite - web wallet with multisig feature that shut down in 2016

Companies
Cryptsy - an exchange that claims it was hacked and shut down
Digital Asset Holdings - a distributed ledger company
Electrum - a lightweight bitcoin client that can be used with hardware wallets
Factom - stores data on the blockchain for decentralized notarization/ proof of
existence, also working on an ID system for the IoT
Gemini - Fully regulated exchange operating in USA, Canada and Great Britain

Companies
GDAX (Global Digital Asset Exchange) / formerly known as Coinbase - exchange
service with over 2 million registered users, the NY Times picked it to be 1 of 50 companies
with a potential value over one Billion dollars. In Spring 2016 they rebranded their exchange
as the Global Digital Asset Exchange and began trading Ether tokens in addition to bitcoin

Kraken - exchange built in response to seeing how Mt. Gox was run
Mt. Gox - a defunct exchange that lots a large amount of customer funds
Mycelium - creators of popular smart device wallets for personal or business use
as well as the Mycelium entropy paper wallet generator
OpenBazaar - bitcoin only marketplace using P2P technology so that anyone can
set up shop and sell their products
