DRAFF OF TERM PAPER
Most people know that bullying is a bad behaviour. Bullying typically bad
behaviours can be classified as either direct such as teasing, stealing, threatening, hitting or
indirect such as rumour spreading. Bullying has negative effects on those who bully, those
who are victimized, those who witness bullying and teachers and staff. Bullying in school
should be stopped. Bullying is becoming increasing each year among students, especially for
school and public higher education institutions. Bullying can effect not just victims of
bullying and the bullies can effect surrounding of them. The failure of parental responsibility
to the child is the taproot to apply negative symptoms of bullying.
The effects of bullying are numerous for victims. Most importantly, victims of
bullying carry the scars and continue to victims into adulthood. Experiencing victimization
can lead to poor academic performance and attachment to school, leading to skip school and
bad test scores. Being the victim of bullying can lead to a psychological side effects, such as
depression, suicidal attempts and ideation, and poor self.
Bullying is never a childs play. From school buses, school grounds to the corridors of
cyberspace, bullying is virtually inescapable for todays school children. Bullying can involve
direct physical contact, verbal attack intended to cause emotional harm, or indirect actions of
social aggression intended to embarrass or isolate. A statistic from U.S. Bureau of Justice
Bullying and Cyberbullying shows that 77 percent of student are bullied mentally, verbally
and physically and that one of five students admit to doing some bullying. From the statistic
and issue raised above, it is clear that bullying, either physically, verbally, emotionally or
even conducted in cyberspace, leaves severe effects on school students.
A recent surge of bullying-related suicide has caused growing concern among
educators and focused national attention on the seriousness of bullying and the importance of
a healthy school climate. Students who are often bullied by other students may have serious
levels of depression and anxiety, and they are more likely than other students to think about
suicide (Austin & Joseph, 1996; Grills & Ollendick, 2002). The effect of bullying on school
students emotion are worrying and it is getting severe and serious because when these kids
feel depressed and anxiety with their surroundings, which here is referring to school

environment, the chances of commit suicide will rise altogether. A research also shows that
bullied students tend to have lower grades and achievement in test scores than non-victimized
students. Juvonen (2011) stated that bullying can account for a decrease of up to an average
1.5 letter grade in academic subjects across the middle school years. Based on these past
researchers statements, the effects of bullying on students emotional behaviour are severe.
First and foremost, bullied students are more likely to have a hard time when
defending or stand up for themselves. There are lot of research that shows that being a victim
of a bully can affect students self-esteem and how they approach school (Juvonen &
Graham, 2001). Victims of bullying, especially school students, tend to find themselves stuck
as a victim in the bully cycle and this leads them to helplessly failed and unable to defend
themselves form the person who do the bully, and this is because of their lower self-esteem.
Continuously being a bully victim and had not enough of source to support or help these kids
to fight the act, has made them to feel insecure of themselves.
Besides that, bullied students are more likely to miss or skip school. General opinion
might say that, those who skip or miss school are the one that cause much trouble, for
example, the bully. However, Slee (1995) stated that victims of bullying also are more likely
than other students to report that they do not want to go to school because of fear of being
bullied. The bullying has create a fear among the victims and they tend to associate it to the
place of bullying, on top of the bully itself. The victims feel that they are unable to learn
when they fear for their safety. The school climate has put these school students in an
insecure position, even when they are there to get educate.
Accordingly to (Austin & Joseph, 1996; Grills & Ollendick) Bullied students are
more likely to get depressed or feel anxiety at school. Students who are often bullied by other
students may have serious levels of depression and anxiety, and they are more likely to think
about suicide. The feeling of depression and anxiety of being around school as a result of
feeling to be bullied again is a severe effect of bullying on these victims. They fear of their
safety and always feel threatened by the bully. Never feel safe and always insecure of
themselves, this situation will leads the victims to the ideation of suicide and thus, we must
put a stop to bullying at school. Students also should be alert and wise in choosing peers so
they are not mistakenly choose a friend.
From my opinion there is some way we can prevent bullying happen in school.
Launched an awareness campaign for engage parents and youth to make the objectives

identified by students in school, parents, and community. School should create policies and
rules which bullying is not acceptable. Build a safe environment, create a school culture of
respect and tolerance. Establish morning assemblies, parents meeting and school website.
Educate school staffs and student from prevent happen bullying in school. In addition, talks
or campaigns such as anti-bullying campaigns can also be conducted continuously in school
for realize the student to keep away from bullying. Activities such as quiz about bullying can
also be implemented and initiatives to address the problem of bullying cases. The school also
should encourages their students to join school Anti- Crime club for students gain more
knowledge about how to prevent the problem of bullying. Students who saw it happening
bullying or victim of bullies need the courage to report to the school general office
immediately so that the matter can be resolved as soon as possible for the welfare of the
school. Meanwhile, the school has received reports of complaints from students must also try
to tackle the problem as soon as possible. Students suspected to be involved in bullying
should discuss the problem with their parents and get way out.
In addition, lack of supervision and control of the loose discipline in schools also
encourage the entry into force of this bullying. The schools are less sensitive and did not take
care of the affairs and relaxation taught discipline control provides the opportunity for
students to take the opportunity to do social problems such as bullying. The relaxation of
controls also led to discipline students, especially male students showed their courage and
took the opportunity to do whatever things freely without fear
In addition, the students also have to cooperate with the school in an effort to curb this
menace. Students who saw the bullying that happens to be a bully or a victim of the courage
to report to the school immediately so that the matter can be resolved as soon as possible for
the benefit of all. Meanwhile, the school has received reports of complaints from students
also have to try to overcome the problem with vigor and not contrary to close the case with a
whim only. If the case is still not addressed, the problem of bullying is increasing and more
widespread. The school can meet the student suspected of being involved in bullying and
parents to discuss the problems faced by the students and find a way out. The school should
impose appropriate penalties to the student so that he does not repeat it again and also serve
as a lesson to other students. Discipline and school rules should be tightened and stressed to
the students so that students follow school rules and ethics do not make mistakes like
involvement in bullying.

Next, the government should also play an active role in curbing this menace. Ministry
of Education and schools must take this issue seriously bullying. Islamic Education, Civic
Education and so should be strengthened. Through this education, students began to realize
the good and avoid the bad bully the negative symptoms. The government should also join
the special agencies to provide awareness and awareness talks about bullying. In this way,
young people can learn about the side effects that result from doing the symptoms of bullying
and trying not done this to other people.
As a conclusion, there are numerous effects of bullying on bullys victims. They carry
the scars and tend to be a victim until they reach adulthood. And based on arguments above,
these effects are severe, especially to school students who are being a victim in a bully cycle.
This problem needs to be addressed quickly because if these symptoms become more serious,
the victims will face a variety of risks including loss of life. Moreover, most bullying occurs
on school grounds, which is our formal institutions to generate human capital that will lead
the country in the future. We do not want to produce young people who are cruel and
oppressive others to benefit himself. With this hope, all parties such as parents, teachers,
society, and the authorities need to work together in addressing this problem
