ObjectiveofCourse:

ThepurposeoftheAdvancedPlacementWorldHistorycourseistouserelevantfactual
knowledgetakenfromprimaryandsecondarysourceswithhighorderthinkingskillstoacquireagreater
understandingofthedevelopmentofglobalprocesses,fromancienttimestothepresentday.Thecourse
emphasizesthecharacterofchangeandcontinuityinworldstructuresandtheirimpacts.Furthermore,this
studywillevaluatetheinterchangeofmajorsocietiesintheglobalcommunityandtheresultsofthatinterplay.
Throughoutthedurationofthiscourse,theinstructionlendsitselftochronologicalperiodizationaswellas
thematicperspectives

Itshouldbeunderstoodattheoutsetthattheexpectationsofthisclassareconsistentwiththoseofany
AdvancedPlacementcourse.Studentsshouldexpectaworkloadsimilartowhattheywouldhaveifthey
weretocompletethiscourseatthecollegelevel.Thisincludesextensivereading,activeinvolvement
inclassdiscussions,takingnotesindependently,andwritingmanyessays.Inordertoearncollege
creditforthecoursestudentsmusttakeandpasstheAPWorldHistoryexamwithalevel3orhigher(different
universitieshavedifferentscorerequirementsforawardingcredit).TheAPWorldHistoryexamwillbeon
Thursday,May11th,2017at8am.

Grading:ThiscoursedoesNOTusestandardsbasedgrading,although90%ofastudentsgradeis
basedonsometypeofassessment.
Tests/InteractiveNotebooks:50%Therewillbesixunittestsduringthesemester.Testswill
includestimulusbasedMCquestionsandSAQs(shortanswerquestions).

Essays/Projects:20%DocumentBasedQuestions,LongEssayQuestions.

Quizzes:20%Includeannouncedandunannouncedreadingandmapquizzes.Quizzeswillbefree
responsestyleandlargelytiedtotheKeyConceptsforeachunit.

Participation/InClassAssignments/Homework10%

LateAssignmentsandMakeUpWork:Unexcusedlateclassworkandhomeworkwillbeacceptedoneday
aftertheoriginaldatewitha50%reductioningrade.Intheeventofanabsence,checktheclasswebsiteand
calendarforanymissedassignments.Uponyourreturn,checkyourclassroomportfolioforanymissed
handouts.Ifyoumissatestorquiz,youareresponsibleforschedulingandcompletingthemakeup.Youwill
