From the Desk of President

Welcome !!
Steeped in the history of Bangalore; demanding but caring,
remarkably diverse in its people, its interests, its opportunities for
promotion of cultural exchanges and brotherhood; and rooted in a
tradition of service, Kodichikkanhalli Sarbojanin Utsav Committee
(KSUC) is the community of people who are inspired by the
promise of possibilities.
There are so many paths to fulfill the promises of cultural
exchanges and improvement of brotherhood to turn this globe into
piece of haven. In the August 2013, you and I had no dream that
I would be standing here as your president. And notwithstanding
the information about KSUC, some of you may be unfamiliar with
goals of society. Thus the KSUC will act as a platform to fulfill
the aspirations of people towards universal brotherhood and
improvement of cultural exchanges.
As a torch bearer, I closely worked at my birth place and workplace
for harmony and piece throughout my life. As the world is
marching towards twenty first century, Bangalore is also emerging
as Magnetic House to attract people from different parts of
India and world to serve the human & society efficiently. As a
resident of Kodichikkanhalli, Bangalore, I always feel some vacuum in
the pathways of cultural exchanges and fostering brotherhood.
Finally, the KSUC came into its existence through the ideas
generated from the core of your heart and endless cooperation in
order to speak with one voice i.e. peaceful and healthy living.
Albeit, it is challenging for a nascent association KSUC to identify
and communicate its uniqueness to the society, but it will be
possible to accomplish its target as most of you have already
jumped into this herculean task with soul and mind. On the road
of building KSUC as ideal platform for fostering humanity and
showcasing cultural exchanges, we need to break down the gridlock
and defeatism. In this challenging social reformation, I visualize
members of KSUC are uniquely equipped to make significant strides
to the renewal of the promises of Kodichikkanhalli and by
extension, the Bangalorean promise.
Thank you and have wonderful Durga puja.
Mrigendra Madhab Borpuzari
President, KSUC

They gives us oxygen to breath,
Also a home for birds;
We get fruites and vegetables,
Paper, eraser, glue and pencil.
And dal, rice and sugar to eat,
When we are tired,
We can rest in the shade of trees.
We need to save trees,

Life from the Birds Eye - by -Sohini Mukherjee

In this world we come, to see our parents twinkling eyes;
They hold us tight and love us right, to make us all well and wise.
The first crawl, the first stand, the first run and the first fall;
Our sweet smile, our loud cries, makes everything around us stall.
The excitement of running to school for the first time;
The fun of having best friends to fight and play all the time
The first crush, the first love and the first rose for the special one;
The first no, the first heart break and then the repeated sessions of sad songs
The hard work in school and then in college, to excel in lifes unseen battle
The pride to have the first offer, Mom-Dad, Ive done it. Waving it like a rattle
The first day at work, and the huge shopping before that
The first salary, the first award at work and the first appraisal
Yet another time the heart falling for one and this time I know its a budding love
Hand in hand, theatres, movies, eateries and gardens- like the lovely two little doves
The most important day to celebrate, the day when the two souls met to be one
Begins the journey of life with flavors of love, responsibility, and a lot of fun
The late hours slogging, the overflowing work, no time for party, no time for fun
One day to realize, its time for the little one to come, the heart wonders its a daughter or a
son?
Tired and exhausted with work, lifes trigger lies only in the little ones smile
Struggle is on, to make the future bright for the little one to shine
One day to see the little one is a self-made and successful soul
Having a new found world with dreams and sensibly defined goals
Eyes filled with pride and heart in peace, I declare thats my beautiful lifes fruit
Taking with it, my values and ethics to live and play lifes beautiful flute

Content with lifes offerings, holding hands and finding solace in each others lap
We close our eyes to embrace the other world and take a long, rather longest nap
Thats the cycle of life, the beautiful life, the gift from the goddess herself
Live it, Love it, Laugh it, Play it, Sing it, Dance it Coz you are priceless yourself.

Dear Members,
Once again it is autumn with cool breeze and the blue sky and the time
of celebration to Start. Happiness is in the air for it is time for
celebrating our Durga Puja for this year. This year will be 3rd year of our
celebration. I have been a part of KSUC since 2013. This year I have been

I am glad to inform you that during the first year of the Puja, we had
faced so many problems. All the problems were easily solved by our

2nd year as our expectation.
Last two years we celebrated our Durga Puja at Sri Abhaya Anjaneya
Temple premises. This year we are shifting to a new place near the
temple.
Apart from Durga Puja we also celebrate Laxmi Puja and Saraswati Puja.
At the end we thank al our well wishers, advertisers and our members.
With warm wishes to all.
Thank you,
G. S. Datta.

Overcoming challenges of stress

Swapan Das, Balai Saha, Satyajit Roy, Sudip Bhomik, Malay Ghosh and AK Samanta
Stress is a ubiquitous state that affects everyone; irrespective of age, sex, profession, social strata etc. In
the present society, it becomes more pronounced because of several emerging issues like climate change,
environmental pollution, working atmosphere, ever increasing expectations for better performance etc.
According to the opinion of H. Selye stress may be defined as an acute threat to the homeostasis of living
creature. It evokes responses within living individuals in order to maintain stability of the internal
environment for ensuring survivability of living body. Depending on the nature of stress, the response may be
momentary or prolong; the latter case may lead to adverse effects on productivity followed by exhibition of
clinical symptoms and finally suffering from diseases. In a medical or biological context stress is a physical,
mental, or emotional factor that causes bodily or mental tension. Stresses can be external (from the
environment, psychological, or social situations) or internal (illness, or from a medical procedure). Stress can
initiate the "fight or flight" response, a complex reaction of neurologic and endocrinologic systems.
The individual body is intended to experience stress and react to it. It can be positive, and keep one alert
and ready to avoid danger. Stress becomes negative when a person faces continuous challenges without relief
or relaxation between challenges. As a result, the person becomes overworked, and builds up the stress-related
tension. Continuous stress without relief can lead to a condition called distress, a negative stress reaction.
Distress can lead to physical symptoms including headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest
pain and problems with sleeping. Research suggests that stress can also bring on or worsen certain symptoms
or diseases.
Symptoms of stress
Stress can affect all aspects of human life, including emotions, behaviour, thinking ability and physical
health. As every individual handles stress differently, symptom of stress varies from person to person. Under
critical conditions situations, one should consult doctors for remedies. Nevertheless, symptoms of stress may be
grouped into two categories: emotional symptoms and physical symptoms. Emotional symptoms of stress
include:
Becoming easily agitated, frustrated and moody
Feeling overwhelmed, like you are losing control or need to take control
Having difficulty relaxing and quieting your mind
Feeling bad about yourself (low self-esteem), lonely, worthless and depressed
Avoiding others
The physical symptoms of stress include:
Low energy
Headaches
Upset stomach, including diarrhoea, constipation and nausea
Aches, pains, and tense muscles
Chest pain and rapid heartbeat
Insomnia
Frequent colds and infections
Loss of sexual desire and/or ability
Nervousness and shaking, ringing in the ear
Cold or sweaty hands and feet
Excess sweating
Dry mouth and difficulty swallowing
Clenched jaw and grinding teeth
Combating Stress with a Nutritional Management
The impact that stress on health may be serious can lead to several disease including heart disease, headaches,
weight gain, diabetes and cancer. With the right nutrition, one can reduce the adverse impact of stress and
can combat the challenges of stress. The following rules assist in keeping bodys natural defenses up and make
body more resistant to stress.

I FEEL YOU SOMEWHERE by Arka

I can feel your smile
rest upon my face
And I can feel the warmth
and gentleness of your embrace

I remember that sparkle

that dances in your eyes
when something makes you happy
just to be alive

I can hear your laughter

its music to my ears
And your voice still whispers to me
and wipes away my tears

I remember your spirit

and how it set me free
How the tender side of you
put me at ease

I Feel you
Right here with me
The one and only place
you are meant to be
This is your home
here in my heart
but fate has been unkind
and time has kept us apart
So, I Feel you imagine you
right here with me

I Feel you
right here with me

you are meant to be
This is your home

Why you want your daughter to be Radha?

~Anirban Chatterjee

Every Indian knows about Radha. She is the dream girls of most powerful personality Krishna. What
about Radha? Why she is so popular to every Indian?
Here is the fact: Radha-Krishna story tell us how a true love should be. When a true love comes, they
will be the happiest couple of the world. Everyone in this earth deserves that happiness. This desire of
people keeps Radha immortal.
Why your daughter does not deserve power as well as respect? Your daughter can also rule the world.
She can also deserve to take important decision of life. She can fly, she can drive, she can reach at
Everest, and she can also cross the English Channel. But off course the journey will not be as smooth
as we think. The preparation starts from day one or rather when we onboard her.
Think twice before telling your daughter about her dream personality Radha. Your daughter will see
the world through your eyes. Even before going out in the city she knows all about it just through
you. Why dont you tell her to achieve what Krishna achieves in his life? Krishnas life is not that as
simple as Rodhes life. He has prepared himself from day one. But off course he sacrifice personal
comfort for his achievements even his love.
We are sending our tiny kids to the best school and expecting the school will give them the best
education required for their achievements. This is true; she will have the required skill what she
deserve, she would also know how to use it but desire to use those skills wont be there. Since we
have not cultivated that willingness she would forget to use those. Eventually will blame her and
question on her capabilities. And one fine day she will lose her skill. But thats not all, life is not that
simple, there will be some time where situation demands her to show her skill to run a show. But
unfortunately in that time she will be thrown to a believe that she is less achiever. Consequencelly she
will develop other skill to support a system where her success is completely depends upon others
wish or on her luck. But things would have totally in her favour if you set a tight goal for her. Once
she lost her skill, it can be possible that she cant hold the steering of the car firmly when the crisis
comes. When she realize that supporting the driver is not enough. Its the time to drive the car to win
the race, but it will be late, because of you she prepared herself as for supporting role not for a leading
role.

Space Tourism
~Anirban Chatterjee
Want to spend couple of days in space!!! Is it possible?? Nopes but
yes of course it is possible in dream. In school days every night
before going bed we were dreaming to go moon or someplace like
where is gravitation is zero. Where we can swim or float in air or
something like sky walking in zero gravity. Now things are getting
changed, may be in couple of years we can spend couple of days in
space with expense of around 20 Lakhs. Space tourism is planning
to accommodate 100 guests and in near future orbital accommodation
is planning for several hundred guests.
Hotels in orbit will offer the services of your dream
expectation from like-private rooms, meals, bars with stupendous
views - of Earth and space. Web based survey shows that, 88%
people want spacewalk, 21% want a hotel or space station and overall
70% people want to spend 2 weeks in space.
1980s, NASA began a Space Flight Participant program to
allow citizens without scientific or governmental roles to fly. Christa
McAuliffe was chosen as the first Teacher in Space in July 1985 from
11,400 applicants. NASA expected that after McAuliffe's flight two
to three civilians a year would fly on the shuttle. After McAuliffe was
killed in the challenger disaster in January 1986 the programs were
canceled. McAuliffe's backup, Barbara Morgan, eventually got hired
in 1998 as a professional astronaut and flew on STS-118 as a mission
specialist.
In 1990, Toyohiro Akiyama a reporters from flown Tokyo
offered to fly. The cost was about 190 cr and returned a week later.
However, since the cost of the flight was paid by his employer,
Akiyama could be considered a business traveler rather than a tourist.
In 1991, British chemist Helen Sharman was selected from a pool of
13,000 applicants to be the first Briton in space. The program was
known as Project Juno and was a cooperative arrangement between
the Soviet Union and a group of British companies. The Project Juno
consortium failed to raise the funds required, and the program was
almost cancelled. Dennis Tito, an American businessman and former
JPL scientist, became their first candidate who managed to switch his
trip to the International Space Station (ISS) through a deal between
MirCorp and U.S.-based Space Adventures, Ltd., Dennis Tito visited
the ISS on April 28, 2001, and stayed for seven days, becoming the
first "fee-paying" space tourist. He is followed by Mark Shuttleworth
a South African computer millionaire in 2002. In 2005, 3rd ISS visitor
was Gregory Olsen.
By 2007, space tourism was thought to be one of the earliest
markets that would emerge for commercial spaceflight. However, as
of 2015 this private exchange market has not emerged to any
significant extent. Space Adventures remains the only company to
have sent paying passengers to space. In collaboration with the
Federal Space Agency of the Russian Federation and Rocket and
Space Corporation Energia, Space Adventures facilitated the flights
for all of the world's first private space explorers. The first three
participants paid in excess of 130 crores each for their 10-day visit
to the ISS. After the Columbia disaster, space tourism on the Russian
Soyuz program was temporarily put on hold, because of that Soyuz
vehicles became the only available transport to the ISS. On July 26,
2005, Space Shuttle Discovery (mission STS-114) marked the
shuttle's return to space. Consequently, in 2006, space tourism was
resumed. On September 18, 2006, an Iranian American named
Anousheh Ansari became the fourth space tourist. On April 7, 2007,
Charles Simonyi, an American businessman of Hungarian descent, he
became the first repeat space tourist, paying again to fly on March
April 2009. Canadian Guy Lalibert became the next space tourist in
September, 2009.
On January 12, 2011, Space Adventures and the Russian
Federal Space Agency announced that orbital space tourism manned

Soyuz launches to the ISS from four to five times per year.SpaceX is
a private space company which is developing their own rocket family
called Falcon and a capsule named Dragon, capable of sending up to
seven people to any space station. Falcon 1 has already undertaken
test flights and successfully completed its first commercial flight on
July 14, 2009. Space Adventures Ltd, have announced that they are
working on DSE-Alpha, a circumlunar mission to the moon, with the
price per passenger will be around 660 cr.
No suborbital space tourism has occurred yet, but since it is
projected to be more affordable, many companies view it as a moneymaking proposition. Most are proposing vehicles that make
suborbital flights peaking at an altitude of 100160 kilometres.
Passengers would experience three to six minutes of weightlessness,
a view of a twinkle-free starfield, and a vista of the curved Earth
below. Projected costs are expected to be about
120 cr per
passenger. Virgin Galactic, headed by Sir Richard Branson's Virgin
Group, hopes to be the first to offer regular suborbital spaceflights to
paying passengers, aboard a fleet of five SpaceShipTwo-class
spaceplanes. It was intended to commence its first commercial flights
in spring 2015, and tickets were on sale at a price of 165 lakh.
However, the company suffered a considerable setback when the
Enterprise broke up during a test flight in October 2014. Over 700
tickets had been sold prior to the accident. A second spaceplane is
currently under construction.
Lynx is developed by XCOR Aerospace for rapid turnaround,
which will enable it to fly up to four times per day since, it doesnt
not require a mothership. But it can carry only one pilot and one
spaceflight participant on each flight. Lynx prototype tests are
supposed to be in 2015. If all goes well, it is hoped that Lynx will
carry paying customers before the end of 2016. Space Expedition
Corporation was preparing to use the Lynx for "Space Expedition
Curaao", a commercial flight from Hato Airport on Curaao a Dutch
island in Caribbean Sea and planned to start commercial flights by
this year 2015. The costs were around 60 lakh each.
Global warming is the biggest threat for space tourism. In
2010 study published in Geophysical Research Letters raised
concerns that the growing commercial spaceflight industry could
accelerate global warming. The study, funded by NASA and The
Aerospace Corporation, simulated the impact of 1,000 suborbital
launches of hybrid rockets from a single location, calculating that this
would release a total of 600 tonnes of black carbon into the
stratosphere. They found that the resultant layer of soot particles
remained relatively localised, with only 20% of the carbon straying
into the southern hemisphere, thus creating a strong hemispherical
asymmetry. This unbalance would cause the temperature to decrease
by about 0.4 C in the tropics and subtropics, whereas the
temperature at the poles would increase by between 0.2 and 1 C.
The ozone layer would also be affected.
Space tourism could become a billion-dollar market within
20 years this claimed by The Economic Impact of Commercial
Space Transportation on the U. S Economy in 2009. In addition, in
the decade since Dennis Tito journeyed to the International Space
Station, eight private citizens have paid the 130 cr fee to travel to
space. Space Adventures suggests that this number could increase
fifteen-fold by 2020.These figures do not include other private space
agencies such as Virgin Galactic, which as of 2014 has sold
approximately 700 tickets worth 165 lakh each and has accepted
more than
530 cr in deposits. That means our dreams are
converting into the reality very soon so, never stop dreaming beyond
your imagination.

Gender Biases: What needs to change? - by Sohini Mukherjee

Gender Discrimination had remained a very important yet ignored or I can say suppressed topic so far
but it is good to see that today people are talking about it in open forums and getting support from the
masses which definitely gives a ray of hope to believe things would change in the long run. To start with
I would like to pose a question to myself and to others reading this: Is gender discrimination a
Corporate Concern or actually it is more of a Social Concern?
I would like to give few examples of how we react to some of the things we see in our daily lives.
1) A female rider in a Royal Enfield on the road: Wow see the girl, shes driving Royal Enfield
2) A female driving a car fast: Look at the girl shes smart to drive the car so fast
3) A Stay at home Daddy: Rolled eyes! Or Probably How lucky is his wife!!!
4) A man cooking his own lunch to office: You cook at home? How lucky is your wife
5) A man changing baby diapers: Wow he is so cute, how lucky is his wife
I can go on. But let us ponder to shake our heads in agreement to have one of these thoughts cropping
up every time we are spectators of any such situation. None of the comments above are wrong or
hurting but they are all biased. Is there a rule book with definitions such as bikers can only be males? Or
lucky is the girl to have a husband who shares the responsibilities of the family equally? Sometimes we
dont even realize that we are being biased towards a gender when it comes naturally. And that is the
problem in itself.
Yes we all know males and females are two different genders and their characteristics are different. But
who decides which gender is better? Or which gender is more important? Or which gender is more
efficient? Or which gender should be paid more? I know these questions remain unanswered always
and will lead to a lot of debates which can take ugly turns. But my point here is; it is not a question of
how bad it is to be biased or what causes gender biases. The point I would like to make here is lets try
to be fair, fair in our actions and in our thoughts, without giving a chance to someone to question our
ethics. It doesnt need a body to decide that gender biases are wrong and should be stopped. But to my
greatest surprise this is happening. To make the highly educated class understand the fact that giving
more to someone just because he is a male is wrong. Isnt that strange? We claim to be the CEOs and
are seen heading many Business Units in many successful organizations in the world, but we have failed
to judge a very basic fact of life that a person is good or bad at his/her job not because of his/her
gender but because of his/her capability. It sounds quite weird to me that the corporate giants with
such knowledge and success rates have failed to figure this out which was going on from so long; but
thats the truth. At least the statistics say so. And so we are raising our voices and signing petitions and
what not to make ourselves vocal so that we are treated equally to our male counterparts. It is indeed
disturbing to me at least to realize this.
I have been in the IT industry for more than a decade now and it would be wrong to say I havent
experienced this. In most interviews I have been asked about my marital status and family details to
decide how many hours I can give to office. While as an interviewer, I have found it difficult to convince
on more than one occasion as to why I wanted to select a girl because she was technically far better
than her male counterpart in the interview just because my manager thought the girl would be getting
married soon and would need leaves. When the organization decided to roll out a policy on girls not
staying at office beyond 7 pm in the evening without managers approval due to security reasons I have

heard my male colleagues commenting how being females we try to exploit the rules yet demand for
equality. When I took a months break between job shifts I have heard from my male colleagues on how
it doesnt matter to me as anyway my husband is working and I work only for pocket money. On
occasions when I have shared my view of missing my 1 year old daughter while I am at office, I have
heard my male colleagues comment on how I am not a good mother for having decided to continue to
work leaving my child at home. All these have made me react at times and ignore most of the times.
Can someone tell me for how long can we be quiet?
Nothing can be done about changing it until the mindset changes, the mindset that stops employers
from hiring females because they might get married and have kids and reasons like this. None of us
come with a guarantee when you recruit us, be it a male or a female. Yes when a female employee gets
married there is a chance that she leaves the place and goes in order to be with her husband if he is in a
different location. Yes there is a chance that once a female employee has a kid she leaves her job in
order to be with her kid. But that doesnt mean we cannot hire her. Rather the organizations can have
policies to help her retain her job, policies which encourage a couple to work in the same organization
which might give an opportunity to the male counterpart to shift bases to where his wife resides.
Organizations can make policies that give woman full support during her post pregnancy days; by
working in shifts, from home, take more leaves, by funding few day-cares or pre-schools near office
premises.

But solutions can only be thought, only if one realizes that there is a problem. Since most organizations
are male dominated and they think only about the P&L at the end of the day, its a difficult job to have
everyone come under the same UMBRELLA which says SAY NO TO GENDER BIASES.
Lets first try to understand the plain and simple fact of life that there are males and there are females
and just because you are a male doesnt mean you are better. You need to exhibit certain qualities to be
better; that benefits the organization and the society as a whole. And one of the qualities that make you
better than others is when you know and understand the fact of respecting an individual for the qualities
he/she has and not based on his/her gender.

Good nutrition
A wide variety of foods are required in order to remain healthy. Nutrients that body needs include
minerals, vitamins, proteins, good fatty acids and energy. When the body is under stress, it has been proven that
the body uses up its resources until they are bare. The following are the main nutrients that the body will use: (i)
Vitamin B complex to cope with stress and control the whole nervous system, (ii) Proteins for growth and tissue
repair, (iii) V A for normal vision, (iv) Vitamin C for protection of the immune system (antioxidants, diabetes
protection etc.), lowering of cortisol, (v) Magnesium for number of body functions such as muscle relaxation, fatty
acid formation, making new cells and heartbeat regulation.
Good diet plan
One of the most important factors in reducing stress is having a well balanced diet. With a balanced diet
and a correct nutritional management, adverse affects of stress can be minimized.
Avoiding certain foods
Foods and drinks considered junk or quick fix inflict stress on the body. Their nature is to stimulate the
body, even when you body does not have the resources available for additional stimulation. Therefore, these foods
and drinks are a direct cause of stress. Although initially one will feel rejuvenated after consuming the following
products, they will only last for a short while and in the long term, can actually do damage to the body. These are
Caffeine, sugar, fat, alcohol etc.
Increasing consumption of immune system enhancing nutrients
During stress, the body is vulnerable to several diseases and needs nutrients that directly or indirectly
stimulate immune system. These include selenium, selenium yeast, vitamin C, probiotic, prebiotic, omega 3 fatty
acids etc.
Psychologically counteracting stress
It is the responsibility of seniors/ superiors/ guardian/ parents/ teachers/ consultant doctors to keep up
the mindset of persons in case anyone is suffering from stress through wise advice, guidance and positive thinking.
In human being, stress is inevitable during all stages of life including day old baby, childhood, adult,
working as well as post retirement stages. Therefore, programming of activities including professional and dietary
regime could be done in such a way that minimizes the adverse effects of stress of life.
