I.TASK ANALYSIS:
Major Task: Students will examine the dependence of organisms on one another and their
environments.

Distinguish between biotic and abiotic parts of the environment


Explain how populations and communities are related
Describe how the abiotic parts of the environment effect ecosystems

Major Task: Recognize that changes in environmental conditions can affect the survival of both
individuals and entire species

Distinguish between a food chain and a food web


Explain how energy flows through a food web
Describe how the removal of one species affects the entire food web

Major Task: Categorize relationships between organisms that are competitive or mutually
beneficial.

Explain the relationship between carrying capacity and limiting factors

31 7th grade middle school students comprised of 12 boys and 19 girls


9 of the students are special education learners
Average age of the students - 12 years old

2. Prerequisite knowledge, skills, or experience

Students reading at grade level (with modifications as needed)


Students should have a basic knowledge of computers and I-Pad navigation and be able
to utilize the technology independently
Students have knowledge of and agree to school technology procedures

III. CONTEXT ANALYSIS:

Description of learning or instructional context


Locations: Students will complete 100% of the modules in the classroom or in the
computer lab
Class schedule: Is from 10:18-10:58 2nd period before lunch.
Instructors:
Lead Teacher: An African-American male, former Marine, with a Specialist degree
Special Education Teacher: A White male with two years experience
Computer Availability: Two computer labs, three lap top carts, two school-wide I-Pad
carts, two grade level I-Pad carts
BYOD: The new wireless network name is called COSIGNO
(Latin for Authenticate)
Internet: Students have access to the Internet throughout the school.
Printing options: Students will need to print in the classroom or in the lab.
