INTRODUCTION

Supply and return air grilles and registers are considered to

be the most frequently used parts in any Heating, Ventilation
and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Systems.

Whether the grilles and registers are kept unobtrusive, or played up

as decorative accents, their appearance and workmanship are as
important as their performance. They are architectural as well as
engineering products. With their taut, clean lines, solid construction,
silence and controlled performance, DASCO grilles and registers
are an excellent choice for all of your HVAC requirements.

Introduction

SINGLE DEFLECTION SUPPLY AIR GRILLES & REGISTERS

GENERAL
Dasco supply air grilles and registers (DG-15 and
DR-15) are designed to suit HVAC applications
where a high side wall or exposed duct is required,
they are also used for adjusting airflow patterns of
air-conditioned spaces and yet with an architectural
appearance and curved back frames.
Supply Air Grille (DG-15 H)

DESCRIPTION

2
3

Supply Air Register (DR-15H)

Nylon bushings are used to separate the blades

from the frame to eliminate rattling and to provide
positive tension when adjusting the blades. Optional
sub frame can be supplied for concealed fixing
method. Rigid corner fasteners assure a solid
construction. Registers are provided with opposed
blade dampers with face projected lever for
adjustment from the face of register without any
special tools.

DG-15 and DR-15 are multi parallel and adjustable

blade type with aerofoil section of blades which
allow a smooth and uniform airflow pattern for quiet
and low pressure drop application. Adjustable
horizontal, or vertical blades can be supplied to
control the airflow pattern in either the horizontal
or vertical planes. The frame is curved back as
standard and can be supplied in flat form as optional.

MATERIAL & FINISH

High quality 1.5 mm thick extruded aluminium in matt silver anodized finish for blades and frame. Nylon is
used for bushings. White electrostatic polyester powder coating finish is available as a standard.Other RAL
standard colours are also available upon request. Gaskets are provided when specified as optional. Dampers
are of extruded aluminium construction.

ENGINEERING DATA
DEFINITIONS
- Velocity pressure (Pd)
(Dynamic pressure)
- Static pressure (Ps)
- Total pressure (Pt)
- Outlet velocity (Vk)

: The forward moving farce of an air stream within a duct

measured in mm (inch) W.G. of water.
: The outward force within a duct measured in mm (inch)W.G. of water.
: The sum of the velocity and static pressure in mm (Inch) W.G. of water.
: Discharge or intake velocity of an outlet or inlet in m/s (fpm) measured
with an approved calibrated velometer at specified locations relative
to the face of the outlet or inlet.
: From an outlet, in m/s (fpm), is the highest sustained velocity in the
mixed air stream arbitrarily specified and used to determine throw.
: Of an outlet, in m (feet),is the distance from the center of the outlet to
a point in the mixed air stream where the highest sustained velocity of
the mixed air stream has been reduced to a specified level.
: The vertical distance , in m (feet), to the point in a horizontally projected
air stream when the highest sustained velocity of the mixed air stream
has been reduced to a specified level.
: The maximum total width in m (feet) of the air pattern at the point of
terminal velocity.
: Ratio of the length / width of a rectangular air outlet or inlet.
: Of an outlet or inlet which is also a flow factor determined from the
2
2
discharge or intake
velocity (Vk) and the volume flow rate.
Ak = Q / Vk in m or ft.

The figures above show the air pattern of different blade settings. It is noted that the throw and drop will
decrease as the angle of deflection increased.

Engineering Data

SPREAD REQUIREMENTS
The vane angle adjustment of grilles will affect the spread as follows:
1) For 0 deflection angle, the total spread of the air stream is one-third of the throw.
2) For 22.5 deflection angle, the total spreadof the air stream is about 45 percent of the
throw.
3) For 45 deflection angle, the total spread of the air stream is two-third of the throw.

THROW

DROP

3/4 L

The total drop of an air stream is the sum of drop due to throw and drop due to temperature difference of
air in the room and air at the grille.

NOTES :
The sound caused by an air outlet is directly proportional to the velocity of the air passing through it.
The sound pressure level of 8-octave bands acceptable to human ears are estimated from table 2.
Prior to selection of NC level from table 2, ambient sound existing within the space with air
conditioning equipment off or entering the space from outdoors must be considered.
