Centre Location
Marino College of Further Education is located at the Five Lamps,
North Strand Road, Dublin 1. This centre is known as Connolly
House and is just a few minutes walk from Connolly Railway
Station, Busaras and OConnell Street See How To Get To
Connolly House on Page 23.
Application Procedures
Application for all courses should be made directly to Marino
College, Connolly House, 171 North Strand Road, Dublin 1 or
apply online at www.marinocollege.ie, or complete the application
form on page 27 and return to college.
Interviews
All eligible applicants will be interviewed. You may need to bring
a portfolio to some interviews. Please check the prospectus and
web-site for additional details.

Garda Vetting
Course Costs
Registration fees apply. However it is important that students
should budget to cover the cost of the various student services
- similar to the requirements of Third Level colleges. These costs
include examination fees, insurance, registration charges, books,
and where required - uniforms and specialised equipment. Details
of these charges are available on request from the college. There
are no fees for tuition. No refund of course costs will be issued
after 30th September.
Student Activities
Students enjoy participation in various College activities such
as the planning and operation of the Five Lamps Arts Festival,
preparing and assisting with Photographic and Artwork
exhibitions.
Progression
The Higher Education Links Scheme (HELS) facilitates
progression to a variety of higher education courses via specific
FETAC Level 5 and 6 Certificates. Under this scheme a number
of places are reserved by higher education institutions for FETAC
applicants for entry to a range of 3rd level courses, see CAO.ie
and Fetac.ie for further information.
INTRODUCTION TO
NURSING STUDIES
Aims
This is a preparatory course for students who intend to go on to
further training for the four year degree in Nurse Training both
in Ireland and UK. The course introduces students to subjects/
topics commonly studied for the nursing profession.
Entrance Requirements
Leaving Certificate standard, including Leaving Cert Applied.
Science subject desirable. Grade C in ordinary level Maths
ismandatoryfor entry to UK Nursing Degree programmes. All
eligible applicants will be interviewed. Academic requirements
may be waived for mature applicants.

Future Prospects
Currently there are approximately 72 places offered to students
who successfully meet the FETAC criteria for nurse training in
Irish Universities. This criteria applies to all colleges who run
the FETAC Level 5 Introduction to Nursing Studies Course. To
maximise career opportunities for our students, Marino College
has also developed strong relationships and links with the
following UK Universities.

Aims
This accredited course in Dental nursing is designed to
prepare students for a career as a dental nurse and encourage
participants to gain a recognised professional qualification.
During the course you will be able to experience the role of the
Dental Nurse in a variety of dental settings.

Students will undertake continuous clinical placement two
days per week working in a Dental Practice over the duration
of the course. This arrangement ensures that students will
acquire the necessary clinical experience in dealing with the
demands of the surgery. All students will be Garda vetted and
will require Hepatitis B vaccination for work placement. As the
vaccination process takes approximately four months, students
should bear this in mind when preparing for work placement
starting in early October.

Aims
This two-year course is designed to prepare students to work
competently, safely and effectively with young children. It is ideal
both for school-leavers and mature people seeking a formal
qualification. Having successfully completed year one, students
can, depending on performance at level 5, progress to the
FETAC Level 6 Early Childhood Care and Education Award.

Successful students will have the skills to meet the demands of
the modern digital workplace and will be in a position to seek
employment in a wide range of organisations such as new media
companies, community organisations, charities, and commercial
enterprises who want to improve their digital media presence.
Also students are using this course to progress to other Third
Level courses especially in the Dublin Institute of Technology and
National College of Ireland in order to obtain a Business Degree.
Marino College has a direct link with National College
of Ireland (NCI) where students can progress to a diploma
or degree course. Alternatively, students have the opportunity
to advance to the FETAC Level 6 Course - Advanced Certificate
in Administration at this College.

Insurance Companies or organisations with a Legal Department
in order to gain practical first-hand experience.
Future Prospects
This course prepares students to work in Solicitors offices,
legal departments of commercial concerns and insurance
companies. Students who attain their full FETAC Level 5 award
may have an opportunity to progress to the Advanced Certificate
in Administration (Level 6) at Marino College. In addition,
students who are interested in further study can apply through
the FETAC link scheme to progress to Higher Education in
a third level college.

Aims
This one year course is intended as a follow on for those who
have completed FETAC Level 5 in Business Studies or
a related area. It aims to provide advanced training in a number
of computer applications, to develop the learners business and
management skills and an understanding of his/her role in the
modern business world. The course builds upon and enhances
the skills gained at Level 5, taking this to a new level of expertise,
increasing the learners confidence and professional practice and
in turn broadening employment prospects and career promotion
possibilities.
With the IT and business management skill sets from this course,
and additional areas of Project Management, Event Management
and Public Relations, the learner will develop and experience
real life projects, affording a well rounded education and training.
Learners will be given an opportunity to plan and manage events
in the highly successful Five Lamps Arts Festival based at
Marino College(www.fivelampsarts.ie)and other enterprises
throughout the year. Also one day per week is dedicated to
a professional work experience, enhancing experience and
creating further opportunities.
Entry Requirements
Level 5 Certificate in Computer and Business Studies or related
area. Mature students with relevant experience are welcome
and will also be considered for suitability. All applicants will
be interviewed.

Successful students from this FETAC Level 6 Administration
Certificate with Project Management may continue with further
studies through the special link with the National College of
Ireland.
Alternatively, successful students will be equipped to seek
employment in any modern office in the following areas and

Administrative, Legal, Data Processing, Health Services, Banking,
Insurance, IT sector etc.

Dhulaigh College of Further Education and progress to a degree
qualification validated by the University of Wolverhampton. Entry
requirements: Interview and Portfolio of Course Work.
This course is also suitable for students who wish to directly
pursue a career in the area of graphic design.

DCU, NUI Maynooth, NUIC, DIT, Tralee Institute, Belfast Institure
of HE, Winchester University, Edgehill University Liverpool, New
York University and ARTSTRAIN with NAYD in Dublin. In some
cases students have gone into professional theatre work directly
from Marino College. Recent graduates have appeared with
Druid Theatre Company, Fair City (RTE), Sweet Media Production
Company, Maylin Theatre Co, and the Irish Film Festival LA. All
students who successfully complete this course are guaranteed
a place in Swansea Metropolitan University with exceptional
students getting into the second year of their Honours Degree
Programme. Successful students have the opportunity of
auditioning for the Five Lamps Theatre Company, associated with
Marino College.

recognised by the Beauty industry internationally. Career
opportunities include working in Beauty Salons, Cruise Liners,
Self Employment, Cosmetic Counters, Hotels, Leisure Complexes
and Spas. Students who successfully obtain their diplomas from
Marino College can progress to further studies in Beauty and
Complementary Therapies eg. ITEC International Diplomas Indian Head Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Epilation, and many
more.
