Hello Kohler, WI! My name is

Rebecca Rabideaux. After spending the past six years studying and
working in Iowa, I am happy to
be home. I graduated from Drake
University for the second time in
May. You see, I loved Drake so
much I stayed after I completed
my Bachelors degree in Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular
Biology with a minor in Biology
to complete a Masters Degree in
Teaching with a focus in Biology
and Chemistry Education. While
studying for my Masters Degree,
I had the awesome opportunity
to work in an international food
chemistry lab. That was an invaluable experience! I was born
and raised in a southwest suburb
of Milwaukee. And though I was
a Falcon in high school, matriculating with none other than former
Badgers Quarterback Joel Stave,
I am a loyal Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
One of my younger brothers is
a student at U-Iowa. My family
has season tickets for Hawkeyes
football and we like to say we are
black & gold at heart. I cannot
wait to trade in all of these colors
for Bomber Blue this fall! I am
so excited to join your incredible
Kohler School team. I look forward to teaching and learning with
all of the wonderful students here.

It is with great Kohler pride that

I announce to you that I will be
serving as your new Athletic and
Activities Director for the Kohler
School District. I am excited to
work with the students, sta, families and coaches to help lead our
district to new heights of athletic
excellence. I will be entering my
eighteenth year in education and
third year as an Athletic Director.
I started my career as an Athletic
Director and then transitioned to
teaching physical education while
also coaching multiple sports at
various levels. During my rst
couple of weeks at Kohler I have
been very impressed to witness
the dedication to academics displayed by the students and their
families. I am condent that this
same dedication will be brought in
the athletic realm where our students will be challenged daily to
seek their personal limits of excellence. I currently reside in Grafton
with my wife Michelle and my
four kids, Bennett (11), Carson
(9), Brynlee (7), and Cooper (3). I
wish you all a wonderful and safe
remainder of your summer and I
look forward to seeing many of
you when we begin our sports seasons in the Fall.

Eva Stokes

Ms. Stokes is thrilled to join the

Kohler community. After growing up in the Milwaukee area,
and then attending the University
of Wisconsin- Eau Claire, she is
very excited to return to Eastern
Wisconsin. Ms. Stokes graduated
in 2015 with a Bachelors of Music
Education in Choral and General
Music. Her passion lies with Middle and High School and cant wait
to get started as the Choral Music
Teacher at Kohler. Throughout her
time at Wisconsins Singing University, Ms. Stokes had a variety
of performance and education experiences, including international
and national tours, cabaret and
recital performances and teaching
practicums at all levels.
It is my honor to join one of the
top school districts for music education and a community that truly
values the arts. I strive to engage
students and provide a variety of
both musical and non-musical experiences. I am so excited to work
with all the fantastic students,
teachers, administration and parents of the Kohler community!

Hello, my name is Ryan Eigenberger and I am the new Social

Studies and English teacher at
Kohler High School. Originally
from Sheboygan, Ive lived in the
area my whole life. I graduated
from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a History
B.S. and Political Science minor.
While attending U Dub Dub, I
played baseball for one season and
worked in the Intramural Department for four. I was a supervisor
and the sport coordinator for both
basketball and ag football. And I
still ociate basketball today.
In my free time I enjoy playing
with my dogs, Oliver and Luke,
reading, and playing any sport
possible. This fall I will also be on
the sidelines helping the football
program. Teaching and coaching
are my two biggest passions. I enjoy interacting with the phenomenal students of Kohler on both
levels.

Hello everyone! My name is

Katie Felckowski and I am thrilled
to be the new sixth and seventh
grade English teacher at Kohler
Middle School. Prior to accepting
this position in the Kohler School
District, I was a K-12 substitute
teacher in the Stevens Point School
District as well as a student teacher in the Tomorrow River School
District. I received my Bachelors
Degree in Secondary English Education from the University of
Wisconsin - Stevens Point. This
will be my rst year teaching, and
I cannot express how lucky and
excited I am to work for such a
prestigious school district with a
wonderfully collaborative faculty
in the tremendous community of

Kohler grad presents

at Mayo Clinic for
undergrad research
Valerie Linck, a 2013 Kohler
grad who is entering her junior
year at Emory University in Atlanta, culminated a summer undergrad renal research fellowship
with a presentation at the Mayo
Clinic Kidney, Urologic and Hematologic Research Conference in
early August, 2016. The presentation included students from Emory, Yale, Harvard, and Vanderbilt.
At the conference, Valerie was
able to meet Dr. Peter Agree,
the 2003 Nobel Prize winner in
Chemistry for his research on
channels in the kidney.
The fellowship, sponsored
by the National Institute of
Health, provided a full grant for
a ten week research in an area
related to kidneys. Valeries area
related to the study of mice with
high and low fat and high and low
salt diets to measure the impact
that certain aspects may have on
diabetes and high blood pressure
with mice that were lacking cer-

tain compounds. She used a special genetic breeding pair of mice

to develop mice with the tendencies needed for the study.
Valeries work was done in the
Emory School of Medicine research labs under the direction of
Dr. Eaton, Chair of Physiology at
Emory University. She has been
working in these labs with mice
since January of this year. During
her work, she needed to draw
blood and take the blood pressure
of mice. In order to complete her
research, Valerie performed surgery on the mice to remove kidneys to be able to run the necessary tests to develop a research
conclusion.
Valerie gained her love for Biology during an AP Biology class
and as a lab assistant with Kohler
High School science teacher Jesse
Good. Valerie is studying Biology
with a focus on entering the medical eld.

way to a successful career
Kohler alumnus Tucker Barrie
is making a name for himself in
the lm animation business.
Tucker attended Kohler Schools
since junior kindergarten. After graduating from Kohler High
School in 2009, he went on to
study lm and video at Columbia
College, Chicago, with an emphasis on animation. After college,
Tucker moved to Los Angeles,
California to work on the lm
Anomalisa, a 2015 stop-motion
comedy-drama lm which was
nominated for an Oscar for Best
Animated Feature Film of the
Year, but ultimately lost to Pixars
Inside Out.
Tucker is currently an animator
for Tumble Leaf, an eight-time

Emmy-winning Amazon Studios

original series that premiered in
2014, and he freelances during
his time o. He is also currently an animation director on three
Disney Star Wars Lego spots. His
rst one, a ve-minute video, premiered on August 30th, playing
all day in Times Square on the
Disney screen.
Tucker also recently won the
grand prize for an animation he
submitted for a Nickelodeon
contest titled, What Do Nicktoons Mean to You? in honor
of 25 Years of Nick Animation.
The Nickelodeon contest judges
said they received tons of submissions . . . Tuckers denitely
caught our attention and made

Literacy Council seeks volunteers

Literacy Council of Sheboygan
County is looking for volunteer
tutors to work with adult students
who want to improve their reading, writing or English Language
skills. No background skills are
necessary, but patience and time
and a desire to make a dierence
in someones life are! Low literacy aects 8% of Sheboygan
County residents and impacts
their family, health and employment. The refugee population of
Sheboygan County is increasing.
We currently assist students from
Bosnia, El Salvador, Columbia,
Laos, Peru, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Jordan, Mexico, Thailand, Nepal, Burma, Venezuela
and Russia. We collaborate with
local churches and organizations
who sponsor the refugees, local
libraries and LTC on how we can

meet the needs of all who need

literacy help and to recruit volunteer tutors. When Sheboygan
County adults acquire greater
literacy skills, our whole community benets with a more qualied workforce, more involved
citizens and parents and a higher
standard of living.
We train tutors to work oneon-one with adult learners at a
public location, such as a library
or place of employment for 1-2
hours a week. Volunteers also
benet from our program by
helping people in the community, learning about other cultures
and by identifying with a global
cause. International Literacy Day

IRS Warns of back-to-school scams; encourages

students, parents, schools to stay alert
WASHINGTON The Internal
Revenue Service today warned
taxpayers against telephone scammers targeting students and parents during the back-to-school
season and demanding payments
for non-existent taxes, such as the
Federal Student Tax.
People should be on the lookout
for IRS impersonators calling students and demanding that they wire
money immediately to pay a fake
federal student tax. If the person
does not comply, the scammer becomes aggressive and threatens to
report the student to the police to
be arrested. As schools around the
nation prepare to re-open, it is important for taxpayers to be particularly aware of this scheme going
after students and parents.
Although variations of the IRS
impersonation scam continue yearround, they tend to peak when
scammers nd prime opportunities
to strike, said IRS Commissioner
John Koskinen. As students and
parents enter the new school year,
they should remain alert to bogus
calls, including those demanding
fake tax payments from students.
The IRS encourages college and
school communities to share this
information so that students, parents and their families are aware of
these scams.

Scammers are constantly identifying new tactics to carry out their

crimes in new and unsuspecting
ways. This year, the IRS has seen
scammers use a variety of schemes
to fool taxpayers into paying money or giving up personal information. Some of these include:

KPAL seeks new members

The Kohler Police Athletic League is
looking for new male members. If you
live in the Village of Kohler or the Kohler
School District and are interested in joining a benevolent organization, we might
be just for you. The KPAL was formed
in 1954 and has been supporting Kohler
Youth ever since. The group has two major fundraisers a year, the KPAL Brat Fry
(3rd Sunday in February) and the KPAL/
Lions Oktoberfest (Sept 9th & 10th this
year).
We donate approximately $12,000 a
year to worthy causes, 2016 donations included: (2) $1,500 scholarships to Kohler
graduates; over $2,000 for Boy and Girls
Basketball programs; $3,350 for Village
of Kohler Recreation Baseball; and most
recently $2,500 for the Kohler Girls Swim
Team starting blocks. The starting blocks
purchase was a joint eort between the
Village of Kohler, Kohler Schools and
the Kohler Girls Swim Team. The KPAL
also annually supports the Kohler Youth

Football program and the Boy Scout and

Girl Scouts of Kohler. The monies donated support eorts that maybe otherwise
would not be happen.
The KPAL wants to thank all those in
the community that support our eorts.
The money we raise is thoughtfully spent
on youth and their activities to make
Kohler a great place to live and raise a
family. We arent able to do the entire
fundraising ourselves. Many wives,
friends and other family members regularly help with our fundraising events. We
appreciate all that everyone does for our
great organization.
The next meeting for the KPAL is Sept
14th in the Kohler Village Hall at 7 pm.
The KPAL regularly meet on the second Wednesday of the month. There are
nominal dues of $25, which support the
members meals and social time after the
monthly meetings. If you are interested,
please consider attending a meeting and
joining our organization.




Kohler family achieves

goal of visiting all 50 states
The Jarentowski family recently returned from a trip to
Alaska, thus completing their
goal of visiting all 50 of the
United States.
Michael and JulieAnn
Jarentowski wanted to travel with their two children,
Zachary, age 15, and Lauren,
age 11, while the couple was
still relatively young enough
to enjoy good health and had
the time. They wanted to
complete their goal of visiting all 50 states before Zachary turned 16 and became too
busy with school activities
and jobs. If the kids were too
young to remember a destination, the family would
return to it when they were
older.
The familys Alaska trip
included a seven day cruise
and three days on the main-

land. I traveled the country

with my family when I was a
child and I wanted to experience the same beauty, history
and adventure with my children. Those are memories
that I will never forget and
cant be taken away, said
Michael.
Vacation planning has become something of a family
hobby, according to Michael. He researches ights,
rental cars and hotels while
JulieAnn plans the attractions and activities. Typical
vacations last about ten days,
but have been as short as a
weekend at the Jersey Shore
and as long as three weeks
visiting the entire southeast.
The kids not only enjoy traveling, but they have
found it very educational.
They have often covered

topics in school about the

very places they have visited. Having that rsthand
knowledge is something a
textbook or classroom cannot
replicate. Our hope is that
by giving our children these
experiences, they will want
to do the same with their children! said Michael.
Other places visited by the
Jarentowski family include
Canada, Italy, Sicily, Switzerland, Mexico, Bahamas,
Belize, Honduras, Puerto
Rico, St. Thomas, St. John,
and St. Martin.
Zacharys favorite state is
Hawaii and Laurens favorite

be a sophomore and Lauren
is entering the sixth grade at
Kohler Schools.

Absentee Voting
The General Election will be Tuesday, November

Voter registration is available in the Clerk/Treasurers
Oce until Friday, November 4. You can also register
on Election Day. All new registrants must provide
a document establishing their proof of residence
as part of the voter registration application. Valid

name and current address. Examples: current and
valid Wisconsin driver license or identication card;
ocial identication card or license issued by a WI
governmental body; real estate tax bill or receipt for
current year or year preceding the date of the election;

Cross Connection Control (Backow) Program
The Village of Kohler is required to move forward
with a cross connection control program. WDNR
Regulations require every water supplier develop and
implement a comprehensive cross connection control
program. The contractor hired to oversee Kohlers
backow program is Aqua Backow, a nationally
recognized rm located in Elgin, IL. Aqua Backow
can be reached at 847-742-2296 with any questions.
Your Village of Kohler contact, Brett Edgerle, can be
reached at 920-459-3881. All water customers will be
contacted by Aqua Backow at some point over the
next few months to perform a site survey. Inspectors
will be surveying your property to be sure that your
water systems are protected from existing or potential
cross connections.

Brush Pick-up
The Village crew picks up brush and tree branches
that can be run through a chipper on Tuesdays (with
the exception of Holiday schedule). The material
must be in 4-foot lengths, maximum 6-inch diameter
and piled neatly at the curb. No thorny material or
material with root balls is allowed. Thorny material,
root balls and all loose and leafy material must go in
the yard waste cart. Curbside leaf collection is in the
fall only.
Rummage or Yard Sale Signs
Please be advised that only one Yard or Rummage
Sale sign is allowed per property; the sign must be
located on sale property. Signs located on/in cars
on street right-of-ways are prohibited.
Noxious Weeds/Grass Length
According to Village Ordinance 8.24, it is the duty
of every homeowner to destroy all noxious weeds on
their property before they go to seed. Examples of
noxious weeds are Canadian thistle, English charlock,
wild mustard, creeping jenny, goats beard and cottonbearing trees. Also, grass that exceeds nine-inches in
height is in violation of this ordinance. The Village
gives ve-day notice to the homeowner to mow
their grass. Otherwise, the Village will mow at the
homeowners expense.

School is back in Session

Now that school is back in session, please remember
to drive carefully on the streets around the school.
The speed limit is 15 mph when children are present
in the school zones. There is no stopping or standing
of vehicles for the westbound trac on School Street,
or on Church Street adjacent to the school. Also, for
parents that drop children o in the morning do so
close to the crosswalk so the students can be helped
across the street. Students that are crossing in midblock amongst the vehicles are harder to see and
are not as safe. The safest location would be to drop
students o on the north side by the canopy. Follow
the aides directions for smooth trac ow.

Summer 2016
Summer 2016 has been focused
upon improving systems that will have
significant impact on our entire learning
community. It has been a quiet and
reflective month since school has been
out.
Strategic Communications and School
Perceptions
Stemming from the School Perceptions
Strategic Communications Plan, the
administration is taking on a number
of summer initiatives. The first involves
working with community members and
staff to improve our Sneak Peek and
Open House activities. Feedback and
discussion surrounded putting more
structure around these events in order
to provide our community a sense
of purpose and information sharing.
All members of the team agreed that
this should help drive attendance and
relevance at all levels, elementary, middle
and high school. Specific to this was
information for orientating new parents
as well as transitioning students to the
specific schools. The second initiative
will specifically target communications.
We are in the process of developing and
piloting an electronic newsletter that will
be sent out monthly to regularly update
all stakeholders as to that which is
happening in our building.

From their work, 80% of the strategic
plan is accomplished at the conclusion of
the Plan. The Kohler School community
can stand proud. We are prepared to
build upon our strengths and to address
challenges in the next plan.

The strategic plan has been living
document that has been adaptive and
responsive to external mandates and
critical annual review. At the conclusion of
the Plan, 80% of actions are completed,
11 % remain in-progress, and 9% placed
on-hold.
ANNUAL PROGRESS, 2015-16
During the 2015-16 year, 58% of actions
were completed. Of the remaining
actions, 31% are in-progress and 11%
are on-hold. The totality of the actions

reflect the Districts deep commitment

to student learning, building professional
capacity, and enhancing a positive
climate and culture of participation
and communication. The 6 actions
that remain in-progress are important,
intended for completion over multiple
years, and worthwhile to continue into the
next Plan. The 2 actions that are on-hold
require reevaluation.

Samuel da Silva wins

composition contest
Kohler Middle School student
Samuel da Silva was honored
as the winner of the Wisconsin
School Music Association Best
Instrumental Solo-Middle School
Division at the Wisconsin Center
for Music Education in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Samuel won the
award for his ute solo entitled
Peaceful Meadows.
The WSMA Student Composition Project is a program at the
heart of creativity, encouraging
young musicians to artistically
take what they are learning in music education and apply it in their
own way through original music
compositions.
Samuel created his original

composition to perform at the

WSMA District Solo & Ensemble Music Festival and submitted
it along with a recording to the
Student Composition Project last
March. Student works are evaluated by professional composers, and
students receive written critique
forms from the evaluators. Awards
are awarded based solely on merit.
Samuels composition was one of
over 200 compositions submitted
to the Student Composition Project.
In addition to receiving the
award, Samuel received a scholarship to study with a professional
composer. Congratulations Samuel da Silva!
