What are We Doing?

Inthefirstunitofourcourse,youwillbeexploringthefundamentalsofhowpeertutoringworksin
additiontowaysofthinkingaboutcompositionthatcanhelpbothyouandthestudentsyouwillbe
assistinginFloridaStateUniversitysReadingandWritingCenterorDigitalStudio.Inordertobetter
helpyoudevelopasatutor,thisfirstprojectasksyoutosynthesizeyourexperiencesasacomposerwith
thetextsandtheorieswewilldiscussinthecomingweekstooutlineamoreconcreteviewofhowyou
believecomposingworks.

How are We Doing It?


Inshortyoullwantto:
1. Carefullyreadthetextsfromthefirstfewweeksofthiscourse.
2. Chooseatleastthreetermsand/orconceptsdiscussedinthefirstfewweekstodiscussinyour
theoryofcomposing.
3. Chooseatleastthreereadingsfromclassyouwanttodiscussandintegrateintoyourtheoryof
composing(sodontjustpickonepieceandgetallthreeconceptsfromit).
4. Startresearchingandfindingtextsthatbuildonthetheoriesandconceptswediscussinthisfirst
unitofthecoursetofleshoutyourunderstandingoftheseconceptsandbeabletotheorizehow
youseethemworking.
5. Discusstheseideasandconceptsinrelationshiptoyourpersonalexperiencesasacomposer
(meaningyoudontneedtojustwriteformallyaboutthesourcesyouveselectedyoucanaddin
personalnarrativesandreflectionsonyourpersonalcomposingexperienceandprocess).
6. Providecitations(intextandaWorksCitedpageinMLAstyle)fortheresearchandresources
youusedbothfromthecourseandoutsideofit.
7. Asyouarerequiredtodoso,youmustvisittheRWCatsomestageofyourwritingprocess
forthisproject(thisdoesnotmeanorincludethedayitsdue,orwhenitstoolatetomake
anymeaningfulrevisionstoyourwork).

enterthisconversationandstartfleshingoutyourtheoryofcomposing:

2. Whatpersonalexperiencesspeaktothoseideas?How?
3. Whatkeyideasorconceptsguideyourunderstandingofwhatcomposingis/doesandhow

Usingyourexperiencesinthecourseandyourexperiencesasacomposer,thesequestionsmayhelpguide
youtowardssynthesizingourworkinthefirstunitwithyourexperiencesasacomposer.

Why are We Doing This Project?


Thisprojectisdesignedtoencourageyoutodefineandrefineyourexperienceswithcomposingbasedon
somereadingsandtheorythatmaybenewtoyou,anddoingsotobetterassistothercomposersinthe
RWCandDS.Asaresult,thisprojectencouragesyouto:
Articulateandreflectuponexperiencesthathavebeenformativeinyourunderstandingofhow
composingworks,whatcomposingis,whatcomposingdoes,wherecomposinghappens(digital
andprintcontexts)andhowcomposingfunctionsinourandyourlife.
PrepareforthediverseclienteleofFSUsRWC,wherestudentscanbeworkingonverydifferent
kindsofcomposingfromarsumtoapoem,fromamemotoadissertation,orfromapodcastto
avideo.
Inshort,thisprojectshouldhelpyoufigureouthowyouunderstandcomposing,andthushelpyouassist
otherswiththeiralphabeticandmultimodalprojects.

Thefundamentalelementsofyourprojectyoullneedtomakesureyouretendingtoinordertomeetthe
minimumrequirementsforthisassignmentinclude:
