Development Methodology - Determine and confirm client business

requirements ICTICT401
Select a project that you will work on for this semester.
You will use this project for this unit, and also Project Management.

1. Select the Development Methodology that you

will use to build the system for your project.

Project Name: Networking

computers and peripherals
office
(Between 20-30 computers)

between
in small

The project I am going to do in this unit and possibly for PM subject

is about networking between computers and peripherals (e.g.:
printers, scanners, barcode readers etc.) in my own company which
is a Dental Lab. According to my research on my own with the staf
of the company I have chosen the Iterative Development
Methodology because when I complete one step then if it becomes
fail then I should go back to try the diferent way to complete the
step. It can only jump to another step until every stakeholders of the
office who uses the computers for daily tasks get satisfied.

2. Justify why you chose this methodology.

a. Explain how the methodology will work
The Iterative Development Methodology has 7 core steps which are Project
Concept, Requirement Analysis, Design and Architecture, Build, Testing,
Maintenance, and Retirement. In this concept if you collect information for
the project about the following process and design accordingly but
accidently if missed something then still you can back to the previous step
for amending. Nowadays, it is very common in IT projects to add/delete
more process to make easier for everyone.
This methodology is more efective for my project because it follows every
steps more sequentially and allows to go back for any amendment if
required. There are some steps as follows about how it works:
Project Concept : This is the first step of the project where It
prepares the actual type of network such as which computer to
connect to scanners , printers , bar code readers and to provide the
accessibility for any required machine to the staf whoever uses it
Requirement Analysis: It gathers all information what actually
they need form the IT manager and other staf about what kind of
network they want me to design. This step itself talks about the
project scope, risk, issue, communication, quality and time frame of
the project.

Design and Architect: This is a layout or framework of the project.
It defines the actual task of the project which is almost ready for
design. It prepares the documents such as network configuration,
rough sketch of network diagram etc.
Build: This step is a working phase where actual task is being
carried out. E.g.: the physical connectivity of the computers and
other required devices and installing required operating system and
company software.
Testing and Development: After finishing the physical design of
the project it tests all the functionality of the each computer and
other devices, checks if each computer is working fully or not. It
also checks the software installed on the machines are compatible
and working or not. And, fins the errors after troubleshoot to follow
the next step.
Maintenance and Enhancement: This is a process of feedback
comes after using the technology. If the company need to update
something in the system according to the latest market technology
then it add/delete anything required in the system.

Retirement: This is the retirement of old system and

commencement of new system or integrated technology with the
existing one.

b. Explain why it fits this project

In my project, it is very common that we need to connect or disconnect
the machines and other required devices according to the office
requirements for installing, updating and removing the company software
and accessibility to the staf so we need to go back and forth to complete
the process . This kind of task is only possible in Iterative Development
Method so this method is most suitable to the project I am going to
design.
