DeepEX 2015 Features and Capabilities

DeepEX 2015 - continued innovation and excellence!

Continuing with our dedication and passion for deep excavations, DeepXcav has been
renamed to DeepEX 2015. DeepEX introduces new unique features that extend the
software capabilities. DeepEX is now the only deep excavation design software with all
major calculations reported in equation format.
Truly yours,

Dimitrios Konstantakos, P.E.

What does DeepEX do?

DeepEX is a software dedicated to the analysis and design of embedded wall
excavations. DeepEX performs a wide range of geotechnical and structural calculations
to examine almost any type of problem.
How is the new interface?
We have taken great care and effort in the simplified 2015 interface. Now the new
General tab includes practically all the information you need to create a model.
Supports and loads can be drawn in from two drop down buttons on the top left. Other
dialogs have also been simplified with general data being separated from advanced
information.

What are the analysis methods?

DeepEX is the only software in its category that can analyze a wall with limit-equilibrium
or elastoplastic methods. In the elastoplastic analysis, the soil is divided in active and
passive non-linear soil springs. In the elastoplastic analysis, the lateral soil pressures
depend on the soil properties and the proposed construction stage history.
What are the implemented design standards?
DeepEX implements a wide range of US and European design standards. These
include: AISC, ACI, AASHTO, BS, EC2, EC3, EC7, DIN, DM08, etc.
What about slope stability?
DeepEX can perform slope stability analyses with the Bishop, Janbu, and the
Morgenstern-Price method. Soil nails can also be included in the stability analyses.
Now the axial wall capacity can be included in a slope stability analysis.
What about AASHTO Load Combinations?
DeepEX reports all factors with their corresponding AASHTO type notation when an
AASHTO type load combination is specified. PENN DOT load factors have also been
implemented.
What about Eurocode 7?
DeepEX 2014 can generate all design approach cases for Eurocode 7, 8, and the
Italian, Greek, German, and French adaptations. Partial factors can be adapted to
match any local EU country standard.
How can I optimize a deep excavation?
A new button permits you to let the program optimize all items of your model:

What about reporting?

Reports can be customized and exported to PDF and MS Word formats. The new
reports have been improved and new results outputs are available that can be
presented in full portrait, half page, or landscape formats.

New Limit-Equilibrium Analysis Options:

New - Simple span analysis with negative moments: The 2015 version offers new
options for limit-equilibrium analysis. One of the options is analyzing the wall beam with
a simplified approach where negative moments can be applied. The percentage of
negative moments can be defined by the user.

While this is a simplified analysis method, it has been quite popular with transportation
authorities in the US. A major difference to the FHWA beam approach for this method
is that fixity is not assumed at the excavation level but at the point of zero net loading
below subgrade. This approach tends to produce slighly greater bending moments
compared to the FHWA GEC-4 beam analysis approach.

DeepEX 2015 Features and Capabilities

New - User defined passive earth pressures: You can now define your own user
defined passive earth pressures:

New Passive pressures with user defined passive slopes and starting pressure:
Very often design specifications call for specific passive pressure slopes to be used.
While we have found out that these specifications are some times inconsistent with
geotechnical mechanics the program offers you the ability to calculate passive
pressures in this way.

New Ignore passive resistance over specified depth:

Full Reporting of calculations: Nothing is hidden, easily review all calculations for
limit-equilibrium analyses and for structural checks of walls and supports.
