technology, regulation and business aspects. It will cover the main
Internet protocols (IP, TCP, UDP), IP addressing and naming (DHCP,
DNS), IPv6 fundamentals and transition from IPv4 to IPv6, Internet
networking including unicast and multicast, autonomous systems and
BGP routing, main Internet services (Web, Email, FTP), as well as
governance of Internet. Further, the course will incorporate broadband
Internet access, including fixed broadband access such as copper-based
(VDSL, ADSL, DOCSIS over cable) and optical access (G-PON, B-PON,
E-PON, and NG-PON), mobile broadband access (3G, 4G, and road to
5G), business aspects as well as regulation of broadband Internet
access. Also, it will cover broadband Internet services, including Next
Generation Networks (NGN) and its Quality of Service (QoS) framework,
IMS-based NGN VoIP and IPTV, Internet of Things (IoT) framework,
cloud computing standardization by ITU and cloud service models (IaaS,
SaaS, PaaS, NaaS, Caas), OTT video streaming (Youtube, Netflix), voice
OTT services (Skype, Viber), social networking OTT services (Facebook,
Twitter), as well as business and regulation aspects. Finally, the course
will incorporate Future Networks (FN) standardization by ITU, including
network virtualization, energy saving in FN, Software Defined Networking
(SDN), smart traffic, security issues, M2M architectures and services,
Smart Ubiquitous Networks, IoT and Smart Sustainable Cities (SSC), as

Final Evaluation
EVALUATION
The evaluation of the participants will be based on 80% from the average Quiz marks (average score from
the quizzes) and 20% from the participation with substantive posts in the discussion forums, reflecting
both the quantity and the quality of time spent on the course. Overall grade higher than 50% success ratio
is required to complete the course and obtain an ITU certificate.
Each module will be studied and discussed over a time period of one week;
Course materials will be made available on a weekly basis;
Discussion forums will be organized based on discussion topics given on a daily basis, where
students are highly encouraged to participate and interact with instructors and other students;
Quiz tests will be assigned weekly, one per module, at the end of a given course week;
All announcements for all events (materials, quizzes and forums) will be given in a timely manner
(prior to the event) by the course tutor.
