VIDEO GAMES ARE BETTER THAN TRADITIONAL GAMES

(FIRST SPEAKER-GOVERNMENT)
Assalamualaikum and a good morning to the respected speaker, cautious time keeper,
honorable judges, members of the opposite team and members of the floor.
Before I put forward my case today allow me to define todays motion Video games
are better than traditional games. According to the Oxford Advanced Learners
Dictionary video game means a game played using a home computer or television in
which player controls images on a screen.
Today, I as the first speaker of the government team strongly believe with the
motion Video games are better than traditional games
Ladies and gentlemen, the government team will bring forward three arguments. I as
the prime minister will present the first argument and my deputy prime minister will
present the second and third arguments.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Video games affect players positively in terms of making them smart and teaching
them useful skills.
Many games require players to have various practical skills such as strategy making
and these skills are not even taught at school. Players learn from games and benefit
from what they learn. For example, my son is crazy about a video game called
League Of Legends. In this game, the gold which can be used to purchase items in
order to enhance players fighting capacity is limited. Thus, he has to learn to manage
his gold and decide the best way of using it. Beside, this game also requires players to
think, analysis and make decisions quickly. He has to adjust his strategy flexibly base
on the situation of battlefield which changes rapidly.
A player of a video game has to search, negotiate, plan, and try different approaches
to advance. Many recent video games involve planning and problem-solving. Video
games don't have to be labeled "educational" to help children learn to make decisions,
use strategies, anticipate consequences and express their personalities.
Once again before I rest my case I would like to stress that Video games are better
than traditional games. Thank you.

(SECOND SPEAKER-GOVERNMENT)
Assalamualaikum wbt and a very good morning to the chairperson, time keeper,
members of the opposition team, judges, ladies and gentlemen. I'm the second
speaker for the government team and I will be continuing my team's case today. Our
team strongly agree with this motion which is this house believes that Video games
are better than traditional games. I agree with the definition given by the
opposition. Now, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to rebut the point laid out by the
opposition.
The first speaker of the opposition team said that traditional games help to gain a
healthy body. His/her argument cannot stand because I believe most of the traditional
games are dangerous to children. Instead of gaining healthy body they face the
danger of physical harm. There is huge possibility for children to fall down onto the
ground and hurt themselves when they are running and jumping outdoor.
Now, the first speaker from our team stated that video games teach us useful skills
and make us smart.
The second point of my team is video games inspire interest in history and culture.
The content of certain video games can encourage kids to read and to research. Many
video games use historical events to drive their stories. Those characters and places
can then spark a childs interest in discovering more about culture they are immersed
in, according to researchers.
Video games such as Age of Mythology, Civilization, and Age of Empires may spark a
child's interest in world history, geography, ancient cultures and international
relations, especially if parents are alert to opportunities.
Parents who have obtained books, maps and other resources connected to games have
reported their children are more engaged with learning, which can lead to a lifetime
appreciation for history.
Our third point is that video games teach children teamwork and cooperation. Many
games require that participants work together in order to succeed in the game, which
may improve players social skills
In several first person shooting games including Call of Duty, Battle Field and
StarCraft Franchises, there are a lot of missions which are team based must be
accomplished by multiple players and it is totally impossible for only a single player to
complete those tasks. Thus, players learn teamwork from video games. Besides, some
puzzle games can also be considered as an example as they allow multiple players
play corporately and they require players to have a careful planning and team work.

So, ladies and gentlemen. Before I take my seat, allow me to make a conclusion ,
reaffirm , and clearly right in saying that video games are better than traditional
games. With that, thank you .

(THIRD SPEAKER-GOVERNMENT)

Assalamualaikum wbt and a very good morning to the respected speaker, time keeper,
members of the opposition team, honourable judges, ladies and gentlemen. I am the
third speaker of government team is given a duty to rebut the arguments .Before
that, our team strongly agree that video games are better than traditional games. I
repeat video games are better than traditional games !
The first speaker of the opposition team said that children will gain healthy body if
they play traditional games. I totally disagree with his/her argument because kids are
always opened to the danger of physical harm when they involve in traditional games.
Furthermore, there is a great possibility for a kid to be kidnapped since traditional
games are often played outdoors.
The second speaker of the opposition team said that

Ladies and gentlemen,

My prime minister stated that children learn useful skills and become smart when they play
video games. Various practical skills such as decision-making, problem-solving,

planning, creativity and thinking skills could be learned when a child is playing a video
game. These skills are very useful for a child to face their real life.

My deputy minister said that video games spark a childs interest in discovering more
about history and culture. Many video games are set in historic time periods, and kids
can learn by playing. With the advanced graphics and immersive experiences offered
by modern video games, history is alive and kicking in a way thats already captured
the mindshare of digital natives.
Our third argument is that children learn teamwork and cooperation when they play
video games. Many games require that participants work together in order to succeed
in the game, which may improve players social skills.
Many multiplayer games involve cooperation with other online players in order to win.
These games encourage players to make the most of their individual skills to
contribute to the team. According to a survey by Joan Ganz Cooney Center, teachers
report that their students become better collaborators after using digital games in the
classroom.
Beloved audience,
Before rest my case, I would like to stress that we government team full-heartedly
agree that video games are better than traditional games. With that, thank you.

(FIRST SPEAKER- OPPOSITION TEAM)

Assalamualaikum and a good morning to the respected speaker, cautious time keeper,
honorable judges, members of the government team and members of the floor.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The motion for todays debate is Video games are better than traditional games
should fall to disgrace. This motion should not and cannot stand.
As the leader of opposition, I first would like to say that we agree with the
governments definition. However we, the opposition team, believe that this motion
is false.
Now I will go on to rebut the argument made by the prime minister. The prime
minister stated that video games teach children useful skills. This argument should be
rejected because the video games only mimic the real-world situation. Children will
only use those acquired skills when they are playing a particular designated video
games. It is hard to say that they would able to apply the skills in their real life
situation. Meanwhile, traditional games provide children with valuable rehearsal of
everyday life skills.
Now Ill go on to present the first argument of our team. Playing traditional games is
crucial in physical of children.
Most of the traditional games are healthy games. They require dexterity and body
movements such as swinging of the arms and jumping. This encourages children to
exercise. Regular exercise makes the heart muscles stronger and more efficient. In a
game of tag for instance, kids will run as fast as they could in order to chase and tag
their friends. Here, the temperature of the body rises during playing. This promotes
the burning up of toxic substances in the body.
Ladies and gentlemen,
Before I rest my case, I would like to stress that todays motion should not stand. With
that thank you.

(SECOND SPEAKER- OPPOSITION TEAM)

Assalamualaikum and a good morning to the respected speaker, cautious time keeper,
honorable judges, members of the government team and members of the floor.
I strongly believe that todays motion that is Video games are better than traditional
games should not and cannot stand.
The second speaker for the government team has tried to tell you video games inspire
interest in history and culture. This argument cannot stand because majority of
children nowadays love playing shooting and driving video games rather than playing
games on history. Instead of having interest in history and culture they learn to be
violent and harsh people when playing video games. Many video games such as
shooting games teach children to be more violent and those games usually reward
them if they do so. When this action is done over and over again, players are
controlled by violence. As we all know that repetition and reward are two effective
ways of behavior learning. Therefore, players become violent and even commit crimes
as a consequence of playing violent video games.

She/he also said that video games improve childrens social skill. This argument could
not stand because children who always play computer games will stay in their own
room. They live in the circumstances that do not require them to socialize with
others. I think they will grow up as Individualism characters and tend to not care
about others.

While the first speaker for the government team stated that children acquire useful
skill by playing video games. His/Her argument should be rejected because those
acquired skills are only applicable when children play video games. Skills acquired
through realworld problems are more efficient.
Our first speaker has already stated traditional games mostly are physically good for
children compared to video games. Children can gain healthy body when they play
traditional games.
Today I will be talking to you about two points which show that traditional games are
more beneficial compared to video games.
Now, to my first point. Traditional games are more conducive to develop skills of
solving real-world problems. When children are playing these games, such as hide and

seek, they are pushed to confront and deal with problems like navigating a place and
cooperating with friends. As they are bound to encounter these problem in life,
children are better prepared for the future by familiarize themselves to similar
environments.

Ladies and gentlemen,

My second point is traditional games help to develop social skill and improve
interpersonal skill. They often provide abundant opportunities to communicate face
to face. By playing traditional game, kids also learn how to communicate and act
politely. For instance, when chasing and catching in a game of tag, players have to try
to make sure they dont hurt each other too much, and its not a great idea to collide
with any non-participants who happen to stray into the area. That is a pretty
impressive list of interpersonal and social skills.

(THIRD SPEAKER- OPPOSITION TEAM)

Assalamualaikum wbt and a very good morning to the respected speaker, time keeper,
members of the government team, honourable judges, ladies and gentlemen. I am the
third speaker of opposition team is given a duty to rebut the arguments .Before that,
our team strongly disagree with todays motion.
Ladies & gentlemen,
The first speaker of the government team said that children learn useful skills and
become smart when they play video games. His/Her argument should be rejected
because children need to be exposed to the real-world situations and problems in
order to gain those valuable skills.

The second speaker of the government team said that video games inspire interest in
history and culture. Nowadays, it is hard to see children play video games based on
history and culture. In contradiction they love to play shooting and driving video
games. Here, they learn to be more violent rather than have interest in history.

She/he also said that video games improve childrens social skill. This argument could
not stand because children who always play computer games will live in the
circumstances that do not require them to socialize with others. They just stay in
their own room, communicate only to the computers or televisions.
