The educational field trip of this subject was held in Metro Clark Waste
Management Sanitary Landfill and Subic Water & Sewerage Company Inc. The main
purpose of this educational field trip was to witness how the authorization utilizes
the sanitary landfill and sewerage. Moreover, acquire knowledge and synthesize
information from the observation.
Sanitary landfills are the sites where waste is isolated from the environment
until it is safe. A sanitary landfill is considered when it has undergone completely in
biological, chemical, and physical way. Furthermore, the isolation of the parcel to
protect the public health. Metro Clark Waste Management met the needed
requirements to be regarded as a sanitary landfill. Particularly, their site undergone
in formal engineering preparations. Considering this, the site has waste
emplacement and covering such that the waste are spread in layers and are
compacted after. They also have the lining materials that operates well for the
security of leachate such that it help to reduce the contamination of the
groundwater and soil. According to Metro Clark Waste Management Sanitary Landfill
they have 70 hectares for site. The accepted mass for collection of the waste is 600
tonnes/ day. The regulation for the mass is that the weight of the truck plus the
waste loaded in it are subtracted after it is disposed. The site collects all solid
wastes and for the hazardous waste there is an exception such that it can only be
collected when the waste is treated properly.
Sewage treatment removes the contaminant from the waste water. This
treatment focuses on the safe fluid waste stream. Subic Water and Sewerage
considers the disinfection, filtration and the chemical process to be processed on
the waste water for it to be use and safe. Regarding this, they showed how the plant
operates. There are lift station for the domestic waste water to be pump from lower
higher elevation. Automatic mechanical bar screen is introduced for the filtration of
the large objects. The collection and equalization tank for the maintenance of the
desired flow rate of water for making it as homogeneous. Sequential batch reactor
tank treats the wastewater. Then, disinfection system with the chlorine contact tank
where the prevention of hazardous organisms. Afterwards, the pipe for discharging
the treated wastewater. These processes makes the water more acceptable and can
be used again.
With the use of the suitable technology, these facilities showed how possible
a wastewater and solid wastes can be reuse.
