MIND AUN BALE NAMFON GEAR NOW 1102

1. What were the main causes of the Rwandan genocide?

- Juvenal Habyarimana a Hutu president of Rwanda on 6th April 1994 when
his plane was shot down.
- Both Hutu and Tutsi wanted to be the one who ruled Rwandan after gaining
independence from France. They were kind of wanting just one group to have the most
power within the country.
2. What were its main effects/outcomes?
- an economic collapse, resulting in poverty.

- the country was destroyed and burned

- many people died, lost and injured
- Because of violence, it affected physical and mental health in a long
period of time.
3. Why did it happen? (Causes, motivations, etc)
- , from the slaughter of 80,000 to 200,000 Hutus by the Tutsi army in Burundi
in 1972 to the 1994 Rwanda genocide in which Hutu militias targeted Tutsis,
resulting in a 100-day death toll between 800,000 and 1 million.
4. Why was the UN unwilling or unable to help in Rwanda, in your opinion?
I think, the reason why UN wasnt willing to help Rwanda is because Rwanda is a small
country and they are only focusing on the country that has a big economics system or big
country. If its not too big they will not probably help them. Unless it affects global
economic.Another reason is Hutu will think that UN is in Tutsi side so they will increase the
violence situation and brings more conflict.
5. How do the issues in the class relate to your classs global issue #1?
- Our classs global issue #1 is Poverty. The issue in the Rwanda Genocide is Hutu
want to eliminate the Tutsi.
- It is relate because when both the Tutsi and Hutu refugees are staying in the
hotel, they are in the situation that is lacking of foods and drinks, same as our classs
global issue #1that they dont have foods, drinks, education, or even place to sleep.
6. Who are the Hutu and Tutsi?
- Hutu and Tutsi are two groups of black people whose their origins are the main
issues in the history of Rwanda and Burundi, also the Great Lake region in Africa.
Theres some cause that make the two groups were separated.
7. How might the genocide have been averted if any of the goals of the UN Millennium Goals
and the UN Declaration of Human Rights, or Sustainable Development Goals of UNESCO been
respected?

- If both of the UN Millennium goals and the Un Declaration of Human rights are
respected, the differences between the class will not be obvious. If the human right is
focused, the differences between 2 groups of people will not exist. Also, if there is no
poverty or less poverty in the society, the conflict between both of them may be less.
These will both prevent the genocide in the society.
