I Say
My notes, commentary

Document 1: Goals put in place helped

communicate the most essential concepts
and skills and were to be more manageable
for teachers and to help students obtain
deeper understanding of what was being
taught.

I think that it is a wonderful thing that

standards were put in that makes it easier for
both the teachers and the students. Teaching is
hard enough and having restricting standards
can only make it harder.

Document 1: Ohios social studies content

standards serve as a basis for what all
students should know and be able to do in
social studies by the time they graduate
high school. These standards are intended
to provide Ohios educators with a set of
common expectations upon which to base
social studies curricula
Document 1: The new standards set kids
up to be participating citizens. The

Standards are very, very important because the

students need to obtain all of the necessary
knowledge they need to prosper. With
standards giving teachers basses of what to
teach in place, it is easier for teachers to know
what they have to teach the children.

Social studies is not only just about obtaining

knowledge of history facts or memorizing the

standards include many KEY parts of social

studies.

presidents. Social studies teaches children SO

much more so it is excellent that the new
standards help kids achieve the extra edge
that they need.

Document 1: The standards largely focus

on 21st century skills.

Document 2: The primary purpose of

social studies is to help young people
develop the ability to make informed and
reasoned decisions for the public good as
citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic
society in an independent world.

Children get tired of learning old things through

text books and notes. Kids grow up with
technology at their finger tips. The times
change so much so children need to know
about 21st century skills.
This quote is so important to me because
students and young people need to know how
to act in society and how to survive and thrive
in our country and to do that you need social
studies.

Document 2: States that not only does

social studies address contemporary real
life conditions and academic scholarship
but it addresses how social studies helps
children become responsible, well rounded
citizens.
How they compare: Social studies serves
many purposes. You dont just learn about
old history but also about how to become
knowledgeable about our world, country
and state!
How they compare: Both articles said
something along the lines of, Two main
characteristics, however, distinguish social
studies as a field of study: its designed to
promote civic competence, it is integrative,
incorporating many fields of endeavor..

1&3

2&1

Again, this shows that social studies is useful in

all aspects of life, in or out of the classroom.

Both articles talked heavily about how social

studies classes serve as a starting point to
becoming model citizens.
Both articles talked about how social studies
classes are not only history classes, there is
economics, government and so on and every
social studies class is crucially important in
different ways.

Connections to previous MR: BP1s reading and BP2s readings were similar in the way that they both
encourage a need to boost childrens interests in social studies. BP1s readings talked about how more
care needs to be taken to tell students why social studies is important while BP2s readings talked about
the standards that the social studies field is going to take to achieve such a thing. BP1s reading talked
about how there needs to be different approaches of teaching to make the children understand better
while blog post 2s reading talks about how the new standards are more manageable for teachers and
allow then to teach towards a greater understanding for their students.
