n Big Prairie Township
starts Crime Watch
Program
Big Prairie Township is in the pro-
cess of starting a Crime Watch Program.
Township Trustee’s Mary Anderson and
Janet Westfield are coordinating the ef-
fort with the help of the Newaygo County
Sheriff’s Department to get the program
up and running.
The first meeting was held on April
14. Newaygo County Sheriff Deputy Phil
Green explained the program in detail
and also, the residents in attendance got
to meet Deputy Turbo, Newaygo County’s
police dog. It was an interesting evening.
Mary Anderson started a program like
this in Ensley Township in 1996 that still
meets regularly and is very active.
Future meetings in Big Prairie will
meet every other month on Wednesday
evenings until the end of the year. At that
point we will evaluate where we are with
the program. Speakers will include DNR/
DEQ, US Forestry and other areas of in-
terest to the community. The next sched-
uled meeting is June 9th, at 7 p.m. at Big
Prairie Township Hall. Guest speaker will
be Newaygo County Deputy Andy Crist-
man, who is the Secondary Road Patrol
officer. Social events are also in the plan-
ning stages.
Trustee’s Anderson and Westfield are
hoping for community involvement. This
is a great opportunity for the residents of
Big Prairie Township to come together to
help ensure a safe and informed commu-
nity.

Arthur Lambertson, age 63 of

his residence. He was born July

After twenty years on the job, work
folding up with nothing better coming
along, and our children grown, we de-
cided to do something we enjoy, and will
help others at the same time. One day we
found ourselves relying on others, what a
wake up call. So, I added up all my pen-
nies and opened a store where the con-
sumer can save money when they buy,
and make money when they sell. And, a
place to visit when you’re bored.
We knew we could do something to
help everyone in today’s economy, hav-
ing 20 years in retail, and not wanting to
go back to work for minimum wage, here
the floor every day. All unclaimed items
go on to local charities, clothing clos-
ets, and quilting organizations. Nothing
goes to land fills, and we do our best to
find homes for all our treasures. While
we cannot accept gas appliances, wash-
ing machines or stuffed animals, we do
take just about anything, including the
kitchen sink. We are always looking for
new consignors, needy charities, and
customers.
