Comment about the picture of the

Korean Air 747-400 approach

Well, that is a very beautiful procedure to be seen by all pilots; at least it


is for me. It is a 747-400 of Korean Air approaching Kai Tak airport in
Hong Kong; It is a procedure that demands a lot of skill of the pilot
because during a landing we have an aid called ILS and in this aid there
are three markers: an outer marker, medium marker and inner marker
in the case of Kai Tak airport, the medium marker is close to a mountain
when the pilot is approaching the medium marker, he immediately must
turn right so as not to lose the runway axis and all of this takes place at
low height approximately between 400 and 600 feet. That is the reason
why the pilot needs a great deal of skills to perform it.
