Another school week has flown by and we now find ourselves heading
towards acouple oflongweekends.Again,an opportunitytorechargeand
spendsometimetogetherwithfriendsandfamilymakethemostofit.
Its been a good week. Students are, as always, making the most of
opportunities andbusy working hardinlessons.Imfindingmoreandmore
evidence that studentsarerespondingtomyneed for themtoaskmorequestions.Itwilltake
time a numberof ourstudentsstillneed reprogramming. Somearesimplynot used to this
needforthem toengagewithteachersand their learning. To some, its analienconceptand
because its new, they're cautious and thats understandable. As Ive said before, students
make the most progress in lessonswheretheyfeel safe totake risks, ask good questions and
are provided with opportunitiesto think for themselvesandexplorewhattheyknowandwhat
theydont.Our studentsneedtodiscoverforthemselveswhattheydontunderstandandthey
needtobeabletoidentifythesethings.Itsallaboutworkingwithteachers.
We had a fantastic assembly this week, the entire assembly led by the students. They
introduced the leadersoftheschoolthe Prefects,andoutlinedtheyearahead,encouraging
allour studentstomake themostof all theopportunitiesthattheyrepresentedwith.Itreally
was great toseesuchstrongleadershipfrom ourstudents.Theytoohaveaveryclearvisionfor
whattheywanttheirschooltolooklike.Iammeetingregularlywithsmallergroupsofstudents
and they areveryquick toexplainwhattheythinkgood teaching andlearninglookslike. They
reallyareexpertatthis.
Im back in classrooms again next week and will be focusing more on the teaching thats
happening.Ive takena good lookatthestudents andtheirlearningandnowitstimetofocus
on our teachers. We have such a talented group of staff. Iam very muchlookingforwardto

The big news this week is the letter that was sent toallyear9 to13 parentsaskingthem to

The water rafting was great, considering the water was wilder than usual.Thistaughtme to
stay focused and persevere for the sake of my teammates. There were times where risky

The treasure hunt required us to be knowledgeable, apply our brains and communicate to
produce results. All members in our team demonstrated these attributes, which lead to us

Overall, the retreat allowed me to enhance myself in aspects of being caring and

Finally,Ibecamecloserfriendswithmanypeoplebecause of theinterestingconversationswe

experience which allowed me to learn about the IB
diploma program. The rafting was particularly important
as it encouraged us to work together as a team toavoid
capsizing or falling off the raft. This as well as the
amazingracelike activity allowedme to develop stronger
relationships with the other people in my cohort. The IB

I can honestly say that the best part ofthe retreatforme wasthe time wehad toourselves,
and the amazing race. This freetimespentplayingcards, talkingand telling jokesandbuilding
stronger relationships was an essential aspect of the retreat. The amazing race was equally
important, as we were encouraged to push through challenges on our own without much
assistance from members of staff or teachers. During our free time, we were encouraged to
communicate with one another, and to be openminded to the ideas ofothers.Theamazing
