SK2 Handheld Radios Operating Manual is prepared to introduce the radio to the user and
tell its usage properties.
At first chapter radio is being introduced.
At the second chapter instructions to use the radio are given.
1.3.
INTRODUCTION
VHF Handheld radio units work between the 146-176MHz frequency band, UHF Handheld
radio units work between the 450-470MHz frequency band. Handheld radio units make
simplex and/or semi-duplex transmit/receive by frequency modulation. This device is
synthesized and microprocessor controlled, and is projected according to the last
developments in electronics and microprocessor technology to provide high performance
and reliable communication.
Handheld radio uses the system interface protocol and that allows various options to be
programmed. SK2 handheld radios are compatible with ASELSAN and ETS-300 086,
ETS-300 113 and TGM ST-001 standards.
7610-4100-0030

1.4.
Group Call
Groups are created in the system. Only the members of a group can listen to a call in that
group. A radio user can be the member of more than one group. Every group has a call
group identification. Totally a hundred group may be defined for one radio unit and these
groups are classified and described as below;
90-94: for inter system communication by using inter system common key
95-98: for inter system communication by using inter system common algorithm and
key
1.4.1.2.
Individual Call
Individual call is the type of call that covers only two subscribers. The calling radio unit
user sends to the system the individual call number of the radio with which he is looking
forward to communicate. Only the radios that are vested with the authority by the SKM
(System Control Unit) can make an individual call.
1.4.1.3.
Broadcast Call
A special call can be made in the system for every radio unit to listen. 0 numbered group is
used for broadcast call. This group is programmed to every radio. Only the authorized
radios can make a broadcast call.
1.4.1.4.
SK2 Radios can initiate a telephone call to a PABX/PSTN subscriber at System Mode or
Digital Clear Mode. Only authorized radios can start this call. For this purpose, the radio
user pushes the # button three times and enters the telephone number at the TELNO:
screen. After the number is entered correctly the user pushes the select button. Here the
EXT: screen appears and the user enters the extension number if there is any. In case
there is not an extension number, the user pushes select button, leaving the EXT: field
empty. By this way the telephone call starts in the system.
7610-4100-0030
Issue C
After connecting to the called number radio passes to Phone Call Mode. If none of the
users talk within 6 seconds period call has been interrupted. Call can also be interrupted
by pressing Monitor/Option Button.
A PABX/PSTN user can also call to a SK2 radio or group. For this purpose, the telephone
user first dials the number of the Telephone Interconnect Unit and then the group or
individual radio number, attaching # to the end..
1.4.2. Applications
1.4.2.1.
Emergency Call
Radio users can make a special call in emergency. Emergency call can be made by the
radios vested with authority.
1.4.2.2.
In the system, radio users may transmit a short message to the System Control Unit. 10
short messages saved in the memory. While messaging with short message call, radio
transmits the message dialed from keypad with its identification. The System Control Unit
Operator identifies 8 character short messages.
1.5.

Issue C
There are some warning and information signals for easy use of handheld radios. These
signals can be seen at Table 1-1 and Table 1-2. Audio warnings and their periods are

1.19. CLONING
Programmable parameters of the radio can be loaded from another radio that has the
programming property by using a cloning cable. This property is present in all 4000 series
radios. It is also possible to load key from key carriers with a connecting cable.
1.20. ACCESSORIES
1.20.1. Hand Microtelephone (5965-4095-0001)
That accessory is used while the radio is carried on belt or fixed to the charger. The dual
jack connector that takes place at the one end of microtelephone cable is fixed to the
connector that take place on the top panel of the radio.
1.20.2. Security Kit 1 (5965-4250-0000)
At secret and important operations user can use the radio with this accessories without
seeing it. Microphone can be fixed to the users tie. PTT button can be in the shape of a tie
clip or it can be carried under the wearing with a cable to the palm. According to the
situation and preference different kind of security kits can be chosen.
1.20.3. Security Kit 2 (5965-4095-0003)
At secret and important operations user can use the radio with this accessories without
seeing it. Microphone and PTT button can be fixed under the users tie. PTT button is on
the microphone.
1.20.4. Earphone (5965-1350-0000)
It provides the using of radio in noisy places. Earphone connected to the jack that take
place at the top panel of the radio.
1.20.5. Headset Microphone (5965-6270-0000)
Because it leaves one ear open user can listen to the conversations around.

FUNCTIONS
When a selective call is received by the radio whose Selective Call property is active, user
is warned by an audible warning. In System radios cannot make selective call but when a
selective call is being transmitted by an analog radio, user can listen to the audio of the

On the display of the radio that receives an individual call the identification of the radio,
which transmits the call, appears. If individual call approval message is not received NO
RADIO signal appears on the display.
2.1.3. Selecting Group
After pressing (*) button group number is entered to chose a group for group call. Groups
1-9 can be selected in two ways:
1. As two digit (01-09): Enter first digit as 0 and then actual digit.
2. As one digit (1-9): Enter the channel number directly. After entering this number radio
automatically selects the group 2sec later.
