Company of Iron is Privateer Press special six-week

league for Spring 2016. Unlike a typical four-season league,
Company of Iron is not tied to specific dates; it can be run at
any time until the new full league schedule begins in August.
The league format is ideal for groups of eight or more players
who regularly meet at a hobby store or gaming club where
they can play whenever they wish. Each league needs an
Event Organizer (EO), who is responsible for tracking
players game results.
Company of Iron provides a casual format in which
players battle against each other using unique league rules,
scenarios, and battlefields. This league will provide weeks of
entertainment for both novice and veteran players as well as
hobbyists as they play games, paint models, and retell epic
battles from across Immoren.
This league focuses on famous (or in some cases infamous)
platoons of soldiers prowling the blood-soaked battlefields
of western Immoren. Players take charge of these unique
platoons, hone their skills through combat, and attempt to
dominate their opponents.
A set of unique prizes representing the various platoons
featured in Company of Iron will be available for each of
the WARMACHINE and HORDES factions. The player who
performs the best in each faction throughout the league will
claim that factions prize at the end of the season.
In addition to standard games of WARMACHINE and
HORDES, players will also be able to participate in Platoon
Skirmish scenarios. In these small-scale scenarios, players
face off using only a small group of soldiers who battle
without the aid of a warcaster or warlock!

Sportsmanship
The objective of league play is for everyone to have a great
time playing games in a casual setting. Players should remain
courteous and patient with their opponents and the EO. We
assume all players are good sports who understand fair play,
but if a dispute arises, call an EO for assistance and resolution.
Modeling and Painting
Privateer Press encourages players to have a fully painted
force on the table. Games with painted armies are more
interesting to watch and generally enhance the experience for
all. Although painting is not required, players are encouraged
to show off all aspects of the hobby.
All models used in Privateer Press organized play events
must be Privateer Press miniatures from the WARMACHINE
or HORDES lines. The miniatures must be fully assembled
on the appropriately sized base for which the model
was designed. The use of nonPrivateer Press models,
unassembled miniatures, or inappropriately based models is
not permitted.
Models that have not yet been released to the general public
at the time of the event are not permitted unless those models
are readily available at the event venue (such as conventionrelease models in tournaments held at that convention).
The Extreme versions of models are acceptable for use in
organized play.
The Privateer Press Exclusive models in the following table are
legal substitutes for the corresponding standard miniatures.

At the start of the league, the EO should determine and

announce the required army point value for all league games,
with the exception of Platoon Skirmishes. The recommended
army point value is50.

To use these Privateer Press Exclusive models, the player must

provide the standard miniatures stat card so that both players
can see the corresponding stats and abilities. Additionally,
the players unit must clearly show which model is the Unit
Commander. For example, a player could replace multiple
models in his original Man-O-War Bombardier unit with
Bombardier Bombshell models, including the leader, as long
as he clearly indicates which model is the Unit Commander.
Model Conversions
The following rules apply to the use of converted models
in Privateer Press organized play events. These rules are
intended solely to ensure that models on the table are
represented legally and unambiguously, not to unduly limit
a players modeling options. An EO can make exceptions to
these rules to approve any reasonable conversions.
Models cannot be converted in such a way that any part
of the model represents the intellectual property of any
party except Privateer Press, including copyrighted logos,
symbols, iconic elements, or other iconography.
The majority of a converted models volume must be
composed of parts from Privateer Press models. To avoid
confusion, the conversion should include iconic elements
of the model it is intended to represent.
A weapon on a model can be converted as long as the
conversion represents the same type of weapon (e.g., the
models axe is still an axe and not a hammer).
A weapon can be completely swapped for another weapon
as long as the new weapon is of the same type (e.g., an axe
for an axe, a rifle for a rifle).
A weapon cannot be removed unless it is replaced by
another weapon; a weapon cannot be added unless it is
replacing a removed weapon.

If a conversion uses a Privateer Press upgrade kit for the

model it is intended to represent, all parts of the upgrade
kit must be clearly visible on the model.
Miniatures must be mounted on appropriately sized roundlipped bases. Added scenic details can overhang the bases
edge but must not obscure the edge in a way that makes
accurate measuring during a game difficult or impossible.
A player cannot use a model as a proxy (stand-in) for
another model.
Any conversions must be clearly pointed out to the opponent
before the game, and the end result of any conversion must
be clearly identifiable as the intended model.
The golden rule of converting models for organized play is
simply this:If the EO cannot independently, easily, and accurately
determine which model your conversion represents, the model is
not tournament legal.
Examples of legal and illegal conversions:
A player creates an Extreme Behemoth by combining parts
from the Extreme Juggernaut and Extreme Destroyer model
kits, along with iconic parts from the Behemoth model
such as its bombards, its head, and the various missiles on
its fists. This model is a legal conversion.
A player creates an Extreme Behemoth by scratch-building
the entire model out of sculpting putty except for the
Behemoth bombard parts. Because the majority of this
models volume is not composed of parts from Privateer
Press models, this model is an illegal conversion.
A player paints his entire army to match the colors of his
favorite sports team but does not include any team logos.
This army is legal. (Paint schemes are not conversions.)
A player converts his entire army to resemble his favorite
superheroes, including their trademarked logos. This army
is illegal.
A player mounts his Kommander Orsus Zoktavir model on
a base featuring a pile of destroyed warjacks that slightly
overhangs the models base but does not obscure it. He also
replaces Zoktavirs axe, Lola, with the axe from a Trollkin
Scout model. While the mighty Butcher will look a bit odd
holding the smaller axe in his enormous hands, this model
is a legal conversion.
A player re-poses his Kommander Orsus Zoktavir model,
intending to play it as Orsus Zoktavir, the Butcher of
Khardov. This is an illegal conversion because it breaks the
golden rule of conversionsit will be difficult for EOs and
players to know which character the model is intended to
represent without help from the player who convertedit.

A player puts an enormous hammer in one of his

Stormwalls voltaic fists. Because a weapon cannot be
added to a model unless it replaces a removed weapon,
this is an illegal conversion.
Platoons
During league play, players have the opportunity to
command specific renowned platoons of soldiers for their
faction. A player is not required to use a platoon unless the
scenario they are playing requires it. When a player uses a
platoon, he must include all models listed in that platoons
description in his army, paying their army point costs
normally, and must follow the special rules of that platoon.
Platoon units cannot have an attachment unless the platoon
composition specifically includes it.
Each platoon begins the league with a special rule, called a
Starting Promotion, that is unique to his faction and reflects
the heroic nature of these soldiers. During the course of the
league, a player can unlock three additional Promotions for
his platoon. The Second Promotion is unlocked when the
player wins his first game using a Platoon Skirmish scenario.
The Third Promotion is unlocked when the player wins his
fourth Platoon Skirmish game, and the Fourth Promotion is
unlocked when he wins his seventh Platoon Skirmish game.
Once a Promotion is unlocked, its rules apply to that players
platoon for the remainder of the league.
The models and units in a platoon activate normally. They
are not required to activate together or to stay within a
specific distance of each other. However, many of the abilities
granted by Promotions are based on proximity to other
platoon models, so it is often a good idea for the models in a
platoon to stick together on the battlefield.
Platoon models are eligible for all bonuses granted by Elite
Cadre abilities, Leadership abilities, Theme Force benefits,
and so on.
See pp. 415 for platoon composition and available
Promotions for each faction.
Scoring
At the start of the league, each player is given a score sheet and
records his name and the faction he will be playing throughout
the league. Because prizes are faction-specific, it is important
that a player plays the same faction for the entire league.
A player must keep track of two things each week of the league:
standard league games won and Platoon Skirmisheswon.
(See Scenarios for details on the types of games.)
During the league, a player can play any number of games
each week, but there are two restrictions on which games can
be recorded on his score sheet. First, if a player plays two or
more games in a row against the same opponent, only the
first game can be recorded. For example, if Mike plays Simon
and records that game on his score sheet, he cannot record
another game against Simon until he plays at least one game

against a different opponent. Second, a player can record

a maximum of five standard game wins and three Platoon
Skirmish wins each week.
At the end of the league, the player in each faction with the
most standard game wins is awarded the platoon pin for that
faction. In the case of a tie, the player with the most Platoon
Skirmish wins is awarded the pin. If the number of Platoon
Skirmish wins is also tied, all tied players face off in a final
free-for-all battle to determine the winner.
Scenarios
Three types of scenarios are available during the Company
of Iron league: core scenarios, standard league scenarios, and
Platoon Skirmish scenarios. Core scenarios can be found in
the Steamroller 2015 rules document and can be used for
all Company of Iron games. Standard league scenarios and
Platoon Skirmish scenarios are described on pp. 16-22.
Players can randomly select a scenario before each game by
rolling 2d6 and using the corresponding scenario from the
following table. Alternatively, players can simply agree on a
scenario to play.
When playing a Steamroller core scenario that utilizes
objectives, each player should choose an objective before the
game begins. Players can choose a different objective each
time they play a core scenario.

The saints of corvis

The ruined streets and dilapidated buildings of a war-torn city hold sights that can break even the hardest soldiers. The Saints
of Corvis survived such horrors during the Invasion of Sul and still fight on, standing resolutely against Cygnars enemies.
Deployed deep into urban combat zones, these warriors strike seemingly from nowhere, clearing enemy positions before
disappearing without a trace.

The Blades of Vengeance

Blood runs thicker than water, but combat forges bonds that bridge even death. Each member of the Blades of Vengeance has
watched many comrades struck down in battle, and each bears painful memories of those sent to the City of Man before their time.
Sustained by their faith in the Creator, they will persevere in striking down His enemies until they themselves join the fallen.

The fel twelve

Reviled as cutthroats and thugs by proper military kompanies, the Fel Twelve are spoken of in hushed whispers by all but the
highest-ranking Greylords. Despite this distasteful reputation, it is hard to argue with their results. Many budding scholars and
archaeologists have fallen to a single well-placed round or assassins blade while watching their dig team thrown into chaos by a
flurry of fellblades and hunting axes. More often than not this grisly work comes on the heels of rumors of Orgoth relics and artifacts,
but the Twelve have also been seen deftly carrying out the Greylords commands on various battlefields of western Immoren.

The black heart raiders

There are those who would write off the Black Heart Raiders as nothing more than phantoms invoked to frighten unruly
children, but the glazed eyes and trembling hands of mariners from the coastal villages between Ingrane and Highgate tell
another story. Tales of proud men slain by horned witches or innocent babes ripped screaming from their mothers side are
tame compared to the horrible truth. Any soul unfortunate enough to survive one of their midnight raids can only look
forward to an agonizing death as part of Satyxis blood rituals under the scrutinizing eye of the Raiders vicious captain.

The Spectres of Ios

In the face of the disproportionate military might of the Skorne Empire, the Spectres of Ios have turned to the guerilla warfare
tactics normally practiced by covert forces of mage hunters. The Spectres use their superior knowledge of the terrain coupled
with mastery of force manipulation to sow terror in the ceaseless ranks of Praetorians at their gates. Faced with the slow
decline of their race, these stalwart Iosans adamantly refuse to have their peoples time cut even shorter by godless invaders.

operation 35

With the coming Phase of Alignment, securing geomantic sites is of the utmost importance to the Convergence of Cyriss.
Given their limited military assets, the order relies on precise calculations to determine exactly what forces will be required to
anchor a ley line nexus. Operation35 has been assembled at the behest of Iron Mother Directrix as a means to lock down key
nexuses in the more sparsely populated areas of Immoren. These vessels, and the souls that reside within, fight with ruthless
efficiency and single-minded purpose to do their part in the Great Work.

combined ranged attack loses Sniper until the attack is resolved.)

The Elsinberg Heist

A particularly ruthless band of mercenaries, the Elsinberg Heist value gold far above their own reputation. Hired by the Four
Star Syndicate as part of a larger force under the command of Magnus the Warlord, this squad of brutes abandoned their post
when they saw an opportunity to loot a Llaelese bank in Elsinberg. With their ill-gotten riches in hand, they fled the city entirely
and have been blacklisted as deserters by the Syndicate. These unscrupulous criminals have fabricated numerous false identities
since the incident, which they employ to accept mercenary posts wherever they see an opportunity for a quick heist.

The thornwood memory

Over the centuries Dhunias children have faced great tragedy as a people and as individuals, and the Thornwoods Memory
is no exception. The remnants of a war-shattered kriel, these unlikely warriors wander the darkness of the Thornwood,
chronicling the deeds of fallen Trollkin in the region lest they be forgotten by time. They regale any passing kin with tales of
the heroes who have gone before them, assuring weary warriors that should they fall in battle, their own glorious deeds will
be remembered in the rich oral tradition of their people.

The scars of caen

The Scars of Caen are a group of mystics hand-picked by Krueger the Stormlord to stand sentinel over the newly blighted ley
lines across Caen. Such vigilance is necessary, as the forces of the Convergence of Cyriss also seek control over the ley lines,
and many other outside forces could unwittingly undo the Stormlords work. Furthermore, many within the Circle Orboros
itself see Kruegers alliance with Blighterghast as mad hubris and aim to undermine his schemes. The Scars travel swiftly to
points of conflict across this blighted power network, eliminating threats and ensuring that Caen remains tainted long enough
for Krueger to locate the source of Everblights power.

The suffering

Though all skorne harbor hope for exaltation at their death, most are prepared for the far more likely reality that their souls
will be cast into the Void, where they will linger in torment for all eternity. Trained by Void Seer Mordikaar, the Suffering
bring the promise of a fate even worse than the Void. This specialized group uses a unique combination of the paingivers lash
and the mortitheurges prowess to attract and bind the souls of the dead to Caen as Void Spirits. The Suffering reap a terrible
harvest across the battlefields of Immoren, and only Mordikaar knows to whatend.

The Dream of Everblight

There are many among Everblights followers who are envious of the power of the athanc shards, who long for true communion
with the dragon. One such Nyss, a beast mistress, has taken matters into her own hands, piecing together a small warband to
make her mark on Caen and earn his favor. The Dream of Everblight can often be found near large Legion armies, striking at
key supply depots and cutting off enemy reinforcements before they reach the main field of battle. Whether or not the beast
mistress gamble pays off, the Dream of Everblight operates as a deadly thorn in the side of the Legions foes at every turn.

Platoon Composition

The krewe of croak

Deep in the Fenn Marsh, gatorman tribes practice grisly rites that invoke spirits and grant mastery over the living and the
dead. Bokors and witch doctors use this power to hold dominion over entire tribes as they vie for influence. The Krewe of
Croak are a band of croak warriors who have given themselves over to the service of a particularly ambitious gatorman, and
they do his bidding without question. In time, this witch doctor will make his claim to replace Calaban, the Grave Walker
and insinuate his own voice into the ears of the strongest tribes. For now, he seeks knowledge above all else and revels in the
glory of slaughter.

Platoon Composition

One maximum unit of Croak Raiders

Two Croak Hunters
One Gatorman Witch Doctor

starting promotion

This platoon can be included in any Minion army, regardless of pact or

theme force.

second promotion

Croak models in this platoon gain Undead and Sturdy Bones. (While in

Croak]. (If a model with Call to Sacrifice is disabled by an enemy attack,
you can choose a non-disabled trooper model of the indicated type in its
command range to be destroyed. If another model is destroyed as a result of
Call to Sacrifice, this model heals 1 damage point.)

Company of Iron Scenario 1:

Chain of Command
Summary: The communication of military orders during
battle is as vital to victory as soldiers and bullets. Well-trained
officers do not concern themselves with how luxurious their
command post might be, only that it allows them to get
the job done. Whether it is as simple as a makeshift trench
hastily dug into the muck or as elaborate as a tower of iron,
the command post must be protected at all costs.
Before the game begins, randomly determine one player to
be the Attacker. The other player is the Defender.
Before any other terrain is placed on the board, the Defender
must place two connected trench templates in accordance
with the map below. These connected templates represent
the Defenders Command Post in addition to providing the
normal benefits of trenches.
When placing additional terrain, no terrain feature can be
placed within 3 of another terrain feature.
Both players have a deployment zone of 10 and an advance
deployment of16.
The Attacker deploys first and takes the first turn.
Special Rules
The Defender can utilize the Command Post to issue unique
Imperatives to their army. If the Defender begins his turn with
a friendly warcaster, warlock, or model with Commander

completely within the Command Post, he can immediately

choose a friendly Faction unit to be affected by one of the
following Imperatives for one round.
Divert and Distract The unit gains Diversion. (While
within 5 of a model with Diversion, enemy models cannot
make ranged or magic attacks.)
Hold the Line The unit gains Unyielding. (While engaging
an enemy model, a model with Unyielding gains +2ARM.)
Never Surrender The unit gains Tough

and Fearless

The Attacker is attempting to overrun the Command Post

and create chaos in the enemy lines of communication. If
the Attacker ends his turn with a friendly model completely
within the Command Post, the Defender cannot issue
Imperatives for one round. Additionally, models the Defender
controls cannot give or receive orders for one round.
The Defender is attempting to protect the Command Post and
hold off the enemy long enough for reinforcements to arrive.
Victory Conditions
A player wins if he has the only warcaster(s) or warlock(s)
remaining in play.
The Attacker wins if he begins his turn with a friendly
warcaster or warlock completely within the Command Post.
The Defender wins at the end of his eighth turn.

Company of Iron Scenario 2:

Bunker Raid
Summary: Being entrenched behind fortified walls of stone
and iron is often the smartest place to be during war. With
enough enthusiasm and firepower, however, what was once
a safe haven can quickly be reduced to a pile of rubble by a
highly motivated enemy.
Before the game begins, randomly determine one player to
be the Attacker. The other player is the Defender.
Before any other terrain is placed on the board, the Defender
must place the Bunker in accordance with the map below.
The Bunker is a 12-diameter structure with a single firing
window facing the Attackers board edge and a single door
facing the Defenders board edge. The door is wide enough
for large-based models to enter or leave the Bunker. The
firing window is 3wide.
The Bunker has a roof and can be entered only by models
advancing through the door or by models being placed.
Models can draw LOS through the door and the firing window.
Hobbyists are encouraged to make their own Bunkers, but
if no physical terrain piece is available, a 12-circular zone
template can be used to represent the Bunker. If using a zone
template, the Defender should indicate the placement of the
door and firing window.

When placing additional terrain, no terrain feature can be

placed within 3 of another terrain feature.
Both players have a deployment zone of 10 and an advance
deployment of16. Additionally, the Defender can choose
to deploy his warcaster or warlock and up to 15 points of
models within the Bunker during normal deployment.
The Attacker deploys first and takes the first turn.
Special Rules
The Bunker is a structure with DEF 5, ARM 20, and 100
damage boxes. All models within the bunker have cover and
do not suffer damage or effects from AOEs with a point of
origin outside the bunker. AOE attacks that would deviate
from a point within the bunker instead deal blast damage to
the bunker itself and cause no damage or effects to models.
Victory Conditions
A player wins if he has the only warcaster(s) or warlock(s)
remaining in play.
The Attacker wins if the bunker is destroyed or removed
from play.
The Defender wins if the Bunker is still in play at the end of
his eighth turn.

Company of Iron Scenario 3:

Storm at the Gates
Summary: Storming a sturdy fortress or well-defended
keep is one of the most hellish tasks a soldier can be
assigned. Death rains down from above as the besieged fire
their weapons from their refuge behind enormous walls.
Each attacking fighter must push forward knowing that
he plays only a small part in the greater planand that
his death will mean very little should he fall. When the
defenses are finally breached, all who are still able join the
frenzied struggle to penetrate the open wound and finally
claim victory.

Victory Conditions

Platoon Skirmish Scenario 1:

Sabotage
Summary: Destroying a military target doesnt always
require the brute force of an entire army. Sometimes the
wiser approach is to assemble a small, elite team with the
skills necessary to get in, plant some explosives, and get
out before the enemy even knows whats happening. Of
course, sneaking past patrols and other security measures
is always easier said than done.
Before the game begins, randomly determine one player to
be the Attacker. The other player is the Defender.
Each players army must include his factions platoon models
and no others.
All models lose Incorporeal and cannot gain it. All Defender
models lose Advance Deployment and Ambush.
Place an obstruction no larger than 46 in the center of the
table. This obstruction represents the Target of Opportunity.
When placing additional terrain, no terrain feature can be
placed within 3 of another terrain feature.
The Defenders deployment zone is the area within 6 of the
Target of Opportunity. The Attacker has a deployment zone
of 6 from all table edges and an advance deployment of 12
from all table edges.
The Defender deploys first and takes the first turn.

Special Rules
All Attacker models carry explosive charges they can plant on
the Target of Opportunity. During its activation, an Attacker
model in base contact with the Target of Opportunity can
forfeit its action to plant a charge. Only one charge can be
planted on the Target of Opportunity at atime.
At the end of each of the Attackers turns, if there are no friendly
models within 6 of the Target of Opportunity the Attacker
can attempt to remotely detonate a planted charge. There is
a chance the remote detonation will fail and the Attacker will
have to try again on his next turn. To attempt to detonate the
charge, the Attacker rolls 3d6. If the result is greater than 10,
the charge detonates. Otherwise, the charge fails to detonate
but remains planted on the Target of Opportunity.
The Defender is trying to protect the Target of Opportunity
and secure the area. Once per turn, the Defender can attempt
to disarm a planted charge. During its activation a Defender
model in base contact with the Target of Opportunity
can forfeit its action to attempt to disarm the charge. The
Defender rolls 3d6. If the result is greater than 10, the charge
is disarmed. If the result is less than 6, the charge detonates.
Otherwise, the charge is not disarmed and remains planted
on the Target of Opportunity.
Victory Conditions
A player wins if he has the only models remaining in play.
The Attacker wins if a planted charge detonates.
The Defender wins at the end of the Attackers eighth turn.

Platoon Skirmish Scenario 2:

Terminate
Summary: A tried-and-true method of causing disruption
in the enemy ranks is to eliminate the officers in charge.
Without leadership, an army cannot achieve victory. Wise
leaders know that death can come from a sole assassin
waiting to strike when the opportunity is right just as easily
as from the massed ranks of enemy soldiers marching
on their positions. Either way, those who have held their
position for any significant length of time know to always
keep skilled bodyguards nearby.

Battlefields

Battlefield: Frozen Front

Summary: War is hell, and doing battle in an intensely
inhospitable or hazardous environment is a special kind of
hell. In the summertime, this area might be a luscious field
or a pleasant grove, but in winter it is a frozen nightmare.
Soldiers must be prepared to fend off not only enemy bullets
and blades but the unforgiving and equally lethal cold
aswell.

Battlefield: Beachhead
Summary: This sandy beach recently served as the site of
a bloody battle between shipborne soldiers landing at the
shore and mortar-wielding defenders holed up in hastily
constructed fortifications. Evidence of an intense conflict
abounds, but the area is now entirely and eerily abandoned.

Terrain Setup

Battlefields are special terrain layouts and guidelines that

can be used in any league game regardless of scenario.
Each Battlefield description specifies the amount and types
of terrain to use as well as rules for special types of terrain
unique to that Battlefield. After determining the scenario for
a game, players should decide if they wish to use one of these
Battlefields for that game.

Players should use a mix of the following terrain features

when placing terrain:

A Frozen Pond terrain feature is rough terrain and should
be no larger than 5 in diameter. If a large-based model is
knocked down within a Frozen Pond, immediately remove
from play all models within the Frozen Pond. For the
remainder of the game, any model that enters the Frozen
Pond is immediately removed from play.

Special Rules

This Battlefield features the Wrecked Ship terrain feature. A

Wrecked Ship is an obstruction and should be no larger than
612.
The Wrecked Ship can provide excellent cover and can be
utilized to block an enemys LOS. On the other hand, the gold
crowns shining within the vessels smashed holds present a
problem as well, as models close to the Wrecked Ship run
the risk of being distracted or even overcome with greed.
If a living non-warcaster, non-warlock warrior model/unit
begins its activation within 4 of the Wrecked Ship, it must
make a command check immediately. If it fails, the model/
unit suffers 1MAT and RAT for one round.

Battlefield: Scorched Earth

Summary: The casualties of war are not limited to soldiers and
civilians but often include entire cities, razed to the ground
in the name of one nations conquest. This area was once a
thriving village filled with simple rural folk going about their
daily business. Now it is a bombed-out shadow of its former
self, inhabited only by the tenacious spirits of those who
