Optima vs.

the Competition
2016 Kia Optima vs. 2016 Toyota Camry
Camry Trim Levels:

Powertrains

LE, SE, XSE, XLE

2.5L DOHC 4-cylinder, 3.5L DOHC V6

Strengths
The Toyota Camry offers a smooth ride with a calm engine. The quiet, comfortable interior features a spacious rear seat area. Reviews have
praised Camrys user-friendly interior controls.
Weaknesses
Reviewers have commented that the Camrys competitors are more engaging to drive yet still comfortable. Owners report dissatisfaction with the
steering feel since the recent redesign.
In terms of comfort and convenience features, the Camry falls short of the Optima. To get the same level of equipment that Kia offers on Optima
SX and SX Limited trims, Toyota buyers have to look to Toyotas Lexus division.
Key Optima Wins
More Advanced Powertrains

Standard Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) on all Optima engines; not available on Camry
Available 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) on Optima; not available on Camry
Optima's available 1.6L Turbo engine develops more useful low-end torque (260 lb.-ft. @ 1,500 RPM) than even Camry's optional
3.5L V6 (248 lb.-ft. @ 4,700 RPM)
Better Vision

Bi-Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights with High-Beam Assist and auto-leveling available on Optima; Camry offers LED
headlights, but does not offer High-Beam Assist or auto-leveling
Dynamic Bending Light (DBL) available on Optima; N/A on Camry
Enhanced Comfort and Convenience

Optima offers the hands-free convenience of Smart Trunk*; Camry does not offer a similar system
Ventilated front seats are available on Optima; not available on Camry
Optima offers a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat; not available on Camry
Optima offers a panoramic sunroof; not available on Camry
Heated outboard rear seat cushions are available on Optima; not available on Camry

*See Safety and Legal section for important information.

2016 KIA OPTIMA

Optima vs. the Competition (cont'd)

Designed for the Driver

Optima is longer, lower and wider than Camry, resulting in a more athletic appearance
Thanks to its slightly larger body, Optima offers more front-row headroom, legroom, and shoulder room than Camry
Better Warranty

5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Basic Warranty* vs. Toyota's 3-year/36,000-mile

10-year/100,000-mile Limited Powertrain Warranty* vs. Toyotas 5-year/60,000-mile
5-year/60,000-mile Roadside Assistance* vs. Toyotas 2-year/25,000-mile

2016 KIA OPTIMA

*See Safety and Legal section for important information.

2016 Kia Optima vs. 2016 Honda Accord

Accord Trim Levels:

Accord Powertrains

LX, Sport, EX, EX-L, EX-L V6, Touring

2.4L DOHC 4-cylinder, 3.5L SOHC V6

Strengths
The Accord enjoys Hondas reputation for efficiency and reliability. Unlike some of its competitors, the Accord offers a V6 engine on top trim
levels. The cabin is trimmed with quality materials and offers plenty of room. The trunk is one of the most spacious in the segment.
Weaknesses
The rear seat does not split-fold, limiting the Accords utility compared to other sedans in this segment. Owners have reported that the seating
is too firm and that the ride is too harsh. Whats more, the comfort and convenience features available on the Accord fall short of the Optimas
equipment. In terms of Honda hardware, shoppers wont find a package comparable to Optimas top-level features outside of Hondas
Acura division.
Key Optima Wins
Excellence in Audio

Optimas base 6-speaker audio system is a clear step above the Accords 4-speaker system
harman/kardon audio system available on Optima vs. Premium audio system available on Accord:
630 watt system on Optima vs. 360 watts on Accord
10 speakers on Optima; 7 speakers on Accord
QuantumLogic* Surround Sound on Optima; nothing similar on Accord
Clari-Fi* technology on Optima; nothing similar on Accord
Better Vision

Bi-Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights with High-Beam Assist and auto-leveling available on Optima; Both are unavailable
on Accord
Dynamic Bending Light (DBL) available on Optima; not available on Accord
More Comfort, More Convenience

Optima offers leather on EX, SX, and SX Limited trims. Accord restricts leather to top EX-L, EX-L V6, and Touring trims
Optima offers a 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat; not available on Accord
Optima offers more front-row headroom and legroom than Accord
Ventilated front seats are available on Optima; not available on Accord
Heated outboard rear seat cushions are available on Optima; not available on Accord
Heated steering wheel available on Optima, not available on Accord
Better Warranty

5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Basic Warranty* vs. Honda's 3-year/36,000-mile

10-year/100,000-mile Limited Powertrain Warranty* vs. Honda's 5-year/60,000-mile
5-year/60,000-mile Roadside Assistance* vs. Honda's 3-year/36,000-mile

*See Safety and Legal section for important information.

2016 KIA OPTIMA

2016 Kia Optima vs. 2016 Ford Fusion

Fusion Trim Levels:

Powertrains

S, SE, Titanium

2.5L DOHC 4-cylinder with A/T, 1.5L DOHC 4-cylinder Turbo with A/T, or
2.0L DOHC 4-cylinder Turbo with A/T

Strengths
The Ford Fusion features a handsome exterior design and a cabin that has been praised for its quiet comfort. Under the hood, fuel-efficient
turbocharged Ecoboost engines provide power while an available all-wheel-drive system sets the Fusion apart from most competitors in this
segment.
Weaknesses
The MyFord Touch system, the electronics interface that governs various audio, climate, navigation and phone tasks, is frequently criticized being
more difficult to use than other, more intuitive systems.
The Fusions creature comforts and convenience features dont quite measure up to the Optima. To match the advanced technology available in
the Optima with a product from Ford Motor Company, youd need to consult the Fusions cousin, the Lincoln MKZ.
Key Optima Wins
Better Vision

Bi-Xenon High Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights with High-Beam Assist and auto-leveling available on Optima; both are unavailable
on Fusion
Dynamic Bending Light (DBL) available on Optima; not available on Fusion
Enhanced Comfort and Convenience

Optima offers the hands-free convenience of Smart Trunk*; Fusion does not offer a similar system
Optima offers 12-way power-adjustable driver's seat; not available on Fusion
Ventilated front seats are available on Optima; not available on Fusion
Heated outboard rear seat cushions are available on Optima; not available on Fusion
Android Auto is available on Optima; not available on Fusion
Entertainment is Standard

Standard SiriusXM* Satellite Radio (all trim levels) with three-month trial subscription; Fusion only provides this feature on costlier
trim levels
Roominess

Optima offers more headroom, legroom, and shoulder room for those in the front row, despite slightly smaller exterior dimensions
than Fusion
Better Warranty

5-year/60,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Basic Warranty* vs. Ford's 3-year/36,000-mile

10-year/100,000-mile Limited Powertrain Warranty* vs. Ford's 5-year/60,000-mile
