CENTRALIZED DEICING FACILITY AND


CROSSFIELD TAXIWAY SYSTEM - DESIGN
General Description
Design of a new centralized deicing facility
on the west side of the airport including a
new crossfield taxiway system. Services
may include, predesign, preliminary,
detailed and final design, as well as
construction phase services. This facility
is expected to include pavement areas,
storm drainage and spent deicing fluid
collection, airfield lighting and signage,
facilities for the operations, storage and
dispensing facilities for deicing fluids and
control systems for the management of
the deicing operations.

RELOCATION OF TAXIWAYS A&B - DESIGN


General Description
Design of the partial relocation of
taxiways A&B in the terminal core..
Services may include, predesign,
preliminary, detailed and final design, as
well as construction phase services.
The design of the relocation of these
two taxiways will require close
coordination with airline and airport
operations to ensure minimum impacts
to aircraft movements as well as

ARFF #1 MODIFICATIONS - CONSTRUCTION


General Description
This is a Runway 10R/28 enabling
project being rebid. It consists of
10,800 SF addition to the existing ARFF
#1 Facility. The facility will contain 3
bays for apparatuses and equipment
and other functions on the ground floor
totaling 7,700 SF and 3,100 SF on the
second story for dormitory space for
firefighters in the facility. Construction
is within the Airfield Operating Area.

Construction of a new airfield lighting
vault (similar to the south vault)
housing the switchgear, ALSC and
regulators needed to power the airfield

Construction of a 88,500 square foot steel frame,
precast exterior walls equipment storage facility
at the corner of Montrose and Spine Road. All
associated mechanical, electrical, and fire
suppression systems are included in this

REPLACEMENT OF HIGH TEMPERATURE


WATER GENERATORS - CONSTRUCTION
General Description
Replacement of all eight 75,000 MBH High
Temperature Water (HTW) Generators along with
their associated equipment. Equipment to be
replaced includes: HTW Generators, pumps, piping,
controls and power distribution systems. This
project also involves developing designs necessary
to replace the North High Temperature Water
(HTW) Pumps P4, P5 and P6. Additionally, the
scope includes upgrading the functionality of
existing piping crossconnections.

EMERGENCY STANDBY POWER SYSTEM


UPGRADE - CONSTRUCTION

General Description
The project scope of work includes complete
replacement of the Standby Power System located
at the H&R Plant. Including housing of the new
generators in a separate building adjacent to the
H&R Plant. This will be a new 18 MW system to
replace the current 5.2 MW system to
accommodate existing and future loads allowing for
future growth.

TRUNK RADIO SYSTEM REPLACEMENT - RFP


General Description:
The proposed scope of work includes design,
construction and maintenance of a new 470 MHz
operations and 800 MHz public safety trunk radio
system to replace the existing systems installed in
2001 and 1990 respectively. This proposed hybrid
solution will be fully redundant with high voice quality
in both above ground, underground, and ring tunnel
locations providing service to the airport perimeter.
The public safety system shall have interoperability
with the Chicago Police and Fire Department radio
systems. Funding will cover design, equipment
purchase, installation, and all frequency licensing.
Scope of the RFP also includes a ten year
maintenance program*. (*Maintenance funded
separately) This request includes 10% construction
contingency and 2% for design/system validation.

COMED DUCT BANK - CONSTRUCTION


General Description:
The existing Com Ed duct that provides primary
feeders to the Airport is original and has failed to
the point that replacement of cable is not possible.
The new duct will be made up of 9way and 18way
5 concrete encased duct connecting from near the
Runway 28R ALSF shelter to the D179 substation.
The duct will be installed primarily in the east lane
of Spine Road on the NS run and along the south
edge for the EW portion. A connection across
Mannheim Road will also be replaced.
